To me, you can’t beat Bruce Dickinson - as both a front man and insanely talented vocalist. When I think about it logically, it will always be the three headed dragon of Dio, Bruce Dickinson and Rob Halford. All three have the range, power and charisma in abundance - unlike other metal vocalists who just have one or two.

Seems like a lot of the younger musicians are going with picks like Corey Taylor or Randy Blythe, which is honestly pretty eye opening, makes me wonder what picks will be the "greatest" as the years go by. For me as someone who's been listening to metal for the last 30+ years, it's too hard to narrow down just one person so it'd be Dio, Halford, Dickinson, the trinity as many others have mentioned. They are in a league of their own, Legends.
@coreyw5981
@coreyw5981 Жыл бұрын
@Mer Luzo well some commenter said lemmy. Not a good pick, but its who people connected with the most. Slipknot was huge for me growing up. And alot of the times its more about emotion. Someone like corey taylor or dave grohl arent as professionally trained as say david draiman but they put that raw emotion and special character to their voice that make them in their own way true rockstars or metal gods
@M4RCi92

@Mer Luzo 0 IQ comment. Dude has been on top of the world for the past 25 years, has an insane vocal range, can rap, scream, growl and basically do any vocal style you can name. Yeah, he's a douche, but calling him a trash vocalist is just retarded.

I've been listening to metal for just over 30 years and my pick is for Randy Blythe. But these are all just opinions in what you prefer in a vocalist. Higher register vs deep growling vocals. Rob Halford is the voice that got me into metal. I heard their latest album (wchich came out 5 years ago and I hate how long ago it is) and I thought that the vocalist is in their 30s maybe 40s. His vocal range and technical ability overall is incredible, he is great frontman, great stage presence and a top of that he seems so nice and polite in interviews. He’s like metal Santa Claus, wchich is fitting, because he loves christmas, even made a whole christmas metal album, that has actually my second favorite christmas song, the first is Krampus by Snowy Shaw, also great musician. My second favorite is Jonathan Davis, someone already made comment about him and I totally second that. Just want to add that Jonathan is not just a singer, he also plays bagpipes! Definitelly the best bagpipe player in metal.

Phil Anselmo. He has, to me, the greatest set of range you can have in metal. He had the high range in his early years. Cemetery gates can attest to that. Vulgar display of power showed that he can have a tough grit. On Far beyond driven, he showed he has death metal growls. Slaughtered fucking kills. The great southern trend kill had him show his more raspy screeches and then low tone with song like suicide note part 2 and floods. And reinventing the steel had him show that 30 year old testosterone whiskey gargle growls. It's evolved throughout the years. But his charisma on stage is something that isn't matched. Energy. Crowd interaction. The strength and power of his presence. And how he directs and demands you to headband and break your fucking neck. To me, he had it all.

And when they played live you can tell Phil put all his heart into every show, just insane screaming and I think that's why he has so much trouble with his voice these days, and he still sounds amazing for his age. I can't believe no one mentioned him honestly.. that's ashame. I'm only 25 and I'm going with someone that's been around for a long time. Corey Taylor would be the only one that comes close to Phil. Though I definitely agree Halford, Dickinson and Dio have a threeway tie for greatest of all time, but I love seeing how diverse the metal community has become. I think it's great one group obviously are more into a hip hop influenced metal, and another is into something completely different. As much as I don't like stuff like Nu-Metal or Limp Biscuit (however they spell that) I welcome their fans into the metal fan club with open arms, and love seeing the younger generation make it their own

Too many. My favorite vocalists are ones who can mix clean and harsh vocals together seemingly. Mike Patton comes to mind. Also very eclectic in musical style. Phil of Pantera was amazing at that too. Corey Taylor. Howard Jones. RJD. Jonathan Davis. Tatiana from jinjer. Rob Halford is way up there too. Vortex formerly from Dimmu Borgir is such an underappreciated vocalist. Jack Black can sing his ass off. So hard to pick one.

I love how many different takes we get here. Raw talent, longevity, stage presence, style, aggression, versatility are all factors, but nothing matters more than who you grew up with. That person who made some impact on you is probably gonna be your answer literal decades later. So, it's no surprise that so many people went to Slipknot, a prime voice of pissed off generations, stuck with the people who now make that music. Personally, I credit myself getting into metal because of 5 or so musicians and a handful of full bands, but the only two vocalists/frontmen I'd place on their own as an influence (as opposed to along with the band) are Rob Halford and Devin Townsend.
