What I like is even in his screaming, musicality is kept even at parts its brutal. So much seem to be lost in this culture of singer screaming nowadays look at some of the suggestions mentioned - you can't compare the performances. No my fave #1 singer in metal but the technicality is undeniable - that killer "high pitched " ending in cemetary gates along with the raw power elsewhere who is touching that please can you say ? I will change from calling it screaming as anyone can try to scream, but thats super high pitched sung vocal. Its one thing screaming for its sake (yawn) but also keeping the musicality is important too. Not a big fan of death metal etc....I want to hear sung vocals and vocal technicalities not just belting/screaming

Anneke van Giersbergen gets my vote. She set the standard in European metal back in 1995 and is still singing in top form in 2021. She's the most diverse and has sung so many styles of music so fluently. Anneke can leave metal and still be successful. Not many singers can leave their comfort zone and still keep their dedicated fan base while picking up new fans. Anneke has left a legacy for all those who discover this extremely talented singer.

Honestly, Kyo from Dir en Grey, Joe Duplantier from Gojira, and Rob Halford of Judas Priest are my top three picks. Rob's voice is powerful and just a force to be reckoned with. Joe has that emotional scream-singing he does that can move mountains and is so unique. Kyo is honestly hands down the most insane vocalist I've ever heard. He has like 5 octaves or damn near it, his screaming is inhuman, and his presence on stage (especially in earlier years) is some of the most viscerally intense I've ever seen. Honorable mention to Bruce Dickinson, the voice that introduced me to metal, and Devin Townsend.
@itsfine5818
@itsfine5818 Жыл бұрын
Kyo is most definitely a vocalist who has been constantly improving. At his grand old age of 47, he's probably the best he's ever been. I love that guy to death but let's be honest here; when he started out he couldn't carry a tune to save his life. That only goes to show that there's no such thing as talent, just pursued interest.

@Frank Lopez That's why Bruce is my pick. He's been consistently singing great new material for 40 years (Maiden's early to mid 90s were rough, but Bruce's solo stuff during that era was amazing), with great stage presence and performance during all that time. Sabbath is definitely the band that defined the genre and set the standard back in the day, but both Ozzy's reign with them and his strongest solo output was comparatively short. Anselmo's crazy talented for sure, though, and probably the most versatile considering his extreme metal capabilities. Like, he just put out some stuff that no one would recognize as being by the voice of Pantera. There's a lot of good contenders.
@radicalstanza3614

@Frank Lopez I get it. Bruce's been the best forever, though, so easy pick for me. He would've sucked trying to do what Ozzy or DLR did, but same goes for them. 40 years of quality. GOAT.

@@radicalstanza3614 I think Halford would be a great pick regarding this. In his prime he could do anything with his voice, he could be both Dickinson and Ozzy if he wanted. He sounds credible singing a rock or blues song and also singing a power metal or thrash-influenced tune. Also, Priest is the definitive metal band for me.

My vote is Layne Stanley as the greatest ever LIVE vocalist in heavy genres... I saw him like 5 times live and OH MY his vocals were friggin PHENOMENAL!!! If you put him up there with any "metal" backdrop he was the man... (and I have also seen most metal bands live to compare vocals).. Runner up = Bruce Dickinson.
