​@@z1u512 I don't think that's it. I think it's mostly the developer's fault. Look at Guilty Gear - that franchise had powerful zoners since it came out. Characters like Testament and Axl Low are incredibly hype because of their design and also because they rely on setups/mixups that require high execution ceiling, using a variety of tools and good reactions, not just autopiloting. In the same franchise you also have Happy Chaos, who just shoots a gun at you that hitscans fullscreen and all you can do is block and slowly move to him while either getting chipped out or drained of super bar and when you finally reach him, he goes for safe high/low/throw mixup into half your life bar + tons of super gauge, resource charge and hard knockdown setups. A couple of nerfs and changes to his gameplan later and now he's also pretty cool to watch, although it gets tiring watching the same thing over and over again. SF6 just handled the zoners in a bad way. Dhalsim is an ugly freak who's boring to watch, JP dominated the meta with his annoying playstyle and he does the same exact setups and combos on every level of play and Guile just plays like he always did since SF2 (nothing really wrong with that, he's a cool character, his playstyle is just kinda boring, except for perfect boom combos, but those are only hype to other Guile players). Atleast SF players never got to experience the average Blazblue match against a zoner, even if SF zoners aren't that hype

“She’s not as dominant as Ken and Luke” not gonna get into the convo for Ken but come on Juri is very strong. Luke in season 2 pretty clearly does not have as much upside as a Juri who got no nerfs and small buffs season 2 and most importantly benefitted a lot from universal changes in season 2 because she got most of her output from mediums and heavies anyways. It’s just that there’s like 3 seriously good pros who use Juri, and she’s not strong enough to get people changing mains for her (nor is anyone in season 2 for that matter because it’s a very balanced patch)

Rashid, Deejay, and Kimberly were literally made to be hype characters, their personalities, combos, and special moves are all “hype” in my opinion. Ryu should come down to hit or miss, he’s never been exciting or flashy, even here in SF6 he isn’t. He’s just middle of the road and milquetoast as usual. He’s a very “fundamentals” based character, and to me that type of character is never hype or exciting.

Ryu was my favorite character as a kid back in the early 90's (mainly because i was big into karate at the time), but the older i got the more i realized that he was actually a pretty boring character in general, he's never been hype in any regard at all. He's "vanilla" in it's purest form.

I think one of the best metrics, even if it's still based on personal opinion, is fun. For example, JP and Lily are never fun to fight. Even if I win, I didn't have fun.
