Honestly that's why did Grayson is always destined to be the second Batman! Because the other Robins are far better than him in specific categories. But dick best represents Batman in that as you stated he's an all around character not better then the robins that came after him and specific categories but better than them in the categories are not as great in. Jason already disqualifies himself because he can't rein in his ruthlessness. Tim is a great detective but when it comes to the Batman there's more than being a great Detective. In the same can be said with Damien who is a much better fighter thanks to of course all his training and all that s*** with the League of Shadows. But of course his dad was more than just a great fighter. I mean Batman admits many times there are other superheroes who are much better in the detective category then he is. He is a great Detective let's not get that wrong. But I'm figuring he's acknowledging that he has the help of technology to make it a bit easier which is why Bruce acknowledges others who don't have the advantages he has with his technology as Superior. Especially Tim who is a good detective even without the technology how the technology makes him even more scarier to his foes! But as I said every Robin has a strength and weakness. But Dick Grayson is the best qualified the Takeover for Batman as a second Batman. I think that's why Damien works well as his Robin because he still has a lot to learn before you can take the mantle as the third Batman! But I guess that's the point of being Robin. Tim becoming Red Robin is more of him doing what dick did and finding his own path, basically becoming his own Nightwing!. And Jason's never going to get over what the Joker did to him, especially since he's going under Joker's old alias , so again doing his own thing.

Dick Grayson is easily the most underrated character in DC. People tend to assume he just knows what Batman taught him, but he lived with the Titans for years. He trained every day with an Amazonian, Atlantean, speedster, sorceress, living machine, and Green Arrow's protege who himself also had Checkmate training. He has more experience, training, and natural physical ability than the other three combined.

I think JT is more than proficient in all areas and can hold his own but a master of none; and that’s what makes him so dangerous, lethal or unpredictable. And I believe it was said somewhere that since Tim is likely the least naturally talented Robin, that he had to learn more skills to compensate for it. Tim had to learn so widely since he probably is the worst fighter of all the Robins. He's not the natural acrobat of Dick, isn't as decisive and brutal as Jason and lacks the ninja like stealth and killing instinct of Damian. Tim has to be a jack of all trades and master of all to stay on the level of the others. So yeah, I'd say Tim has far and away more skills.

Technically when you combine all 4 robins you'll get Batman: Nightwing has Bruce's acrobatic side. Jason has Batman's Street smarts. Tim has Batman's intelligence and detective mastery. Damien had Batman's brutality and assassin side.

Each of them is a hero in their own right. Damian is a child doing his best to be better than he was raised to be. Tim is a young man, who chose the life of Robin. He is the only Robin who actively chose. Jason was a boy who was angry, adopted by another boy who is angry. Thus he couldn't learn the skills to help himself. That is what killed him a lack of emotional control. Dick is the best and only Nightwing. He is a Bruce who got the the help he needed. Which is ironic considering what happened to Jason.

My opinions come from that of youtuber sages rain. 1.Dick Grayson is the best of what Batman could be, he's a hero if his own right. 2.Jason Todd is Batman's greatest failure, someone who Batman's rage is encapsulated. 3. Tim Drake is the perfect second to Batman. The robin mantra is a sidekicks role, and Tim willingly takes that role. He searched for the role of robin he was never searched for it. He's the perfect Sidekick. 4. Damien Wayne - Young, but the true heir to the cowl, someone who has tons of growing to do but also the one who has shown hands down that from such a young start he can become a greater batman than Bruce himself. But with only more time.

The thing that gets me is other heroes kill and Batman has no problem working with them or even supervillains sometimes. But then he acts like Jason is a monster for absolutely no logical reason. Also, Jason is a genius yet people act like he’s the “dumb one.” You think just any kid could do what he’s able to physically and mentally do? I personally still like Damian Wayne, if it's fighting rank because Damian indeed gives promise on able to surpass the predecessors Robin. Though he made a goal to take mantle of Robin not just as a sidekick, but a single hero (though I still consider him an anti hero).
