It's actually crazy good in Pokemon mystery dungeon, I tried it in sky and it was incredible. Just get a bullet seed TM and you auto win every thing. Link it with sweet scent before you attack and you'll have an auto machine gun chikorita that oneshots Rayquaza lmao. And only chikorita + Bulbasaur can do this combo because they are the only ones that learn sweet scent

@@lefauve588 Many Pokémon from the first generations were left without love from the developers, and these Pokémon are the weakest and most unnecessary, like Hoppip and his ev (yes, it competentive with not bad speed, good ability, what increase its speed to cosmic values, but of course they do it with almost everyone. But fan favorites like Litten and Charmander get it, and it's likely that Trikko and Litten didn't get anything BUT are good enough for fans (OMG, INSIGNROAR HASN'T GOTTEN A POSITIVE CHANGE FOR A GENERATION!) HAS A BETTER CHANCE THAN.... Vegetable? As a fan of the evolutionary tree of Chikorita, I myself hope, what it get a regional Meganium with grass/Stell type

Something to note is that Charizard and Sceptile are currently in ZU, so they definitely qualify for the list. If I were to give a rankings: 5) Decidueye-H (Sceptile can be here too) 4) Typhlosion 3) Charizard 2) Samurott 1) Meganium

Zard hasn't been a genuine OU threat since Gen 3 (and no, its Mega forms do not count since they are functionally completely different Pokemon). It did have a brief moment in Gen 8 where it was solid in OU, but that is because pre-DLC2 Gen 8 had like no Pokemon. Once DLC2 dropped, Zard car crashed to the bottom. Plus, Joey's list is more based off of current Gen 9.

I´m not sure how he rates the pokemon since Charizard had a lot of usage in the past, and he has 2 great mega evolutions. The same counts for sceptile, and both Charizard and sceptile have unique enough abilities ins solar power and unburden to see some use. If only sceptile could use shedtail, he would see plenty of play

The fact that delphox is PU now is proof that psychic has gone to far with its nerfs. Dark and steel types were an overcorrection. My fox needs buffs, and i hope its not just a mega coming in legends ZA. As hype as it would (hopefully will) be. Its a temperaroy solution. More type covarage, a stat buff, new hidden ability. Im not picky. Glad its at least only number 5 here.

It's refreshing to see a respectable video that politely goes into detail on why certain pokémon has it bad over others. I typically see videos similar to this that only bashes a pokémon due to superficial factors like personal design preferences and type matchups lol. I like that you broke down the positives and negatives of each starter to show that there's still some usefulness and utility that is found in an otherwise fan regulated pvp. Both Delphox and Decidueye are some of my absolute favorite pokémon, so it pains me to see these guys this low. But at the very least you structured the points in a manner that is understandable, and above all in a polite manner. I'd be curious to see the 5 best starters in this format as well. Keep up the grind Joey, cheers!

It is interesting how most of the issues boil down to “bad typing” and “stat spread not good enough” As for Meganium, it either needs to become more support focused or offensive focused with it’s hidden ability changed to reflect it’s play style as being anything other than “a little bit of everything”

I've actually had the most success with Maganium as a support in doubles on my summer sun team. Maganium Venasur and Typhlosion are the only main stays that i've had on that team. But Greninja Infernape and Meowscarada are doin fairly well for speed control and setup.

In Red and Blue, Ivysaur used to be able to stand on its hind legs. Its cuteness alone brought it to the top of Ubers in 1993. Look it up.

So many of these are bad bc they're mixed attackers, with both attacking stats above 100. This eats up so much of the available BST (530-535 for starters) that they're either fast but incredibly frail, or moderately bulky but slow af. At least the fast and frail worked well in earlier gens (infernape, speed boost Blaziken), but now needs some strong move/gimmick to make it work (protean/libero, flower trick, etc). I feel like a lot of the time this happens bc a high attack fits better thematically, but there are a lot of strong special moves that they get and the signature starter moves are all special (recharges and pledges), so they try to make those useable

can't really argue with meganium. It tries to be grass type blastoise except blastoise has good traits and is a bulky water type which gave it a nieche for some time, while meganium is mono grass, which still grants it 5 weaknesses and anything it can do literally any other bulky grass type does better

It's the grass typing that makes it not work. Grass is just a horrible type all around. Water does literally everything better. The ONLY time grass ever gets to shine is vs. Water/Ground Pokémon because it's their only weakness but Water Absorb and Terastalization even make that point moot. All the grass starters would fill this list except the other ones either get amazing abilities that make Grass viable or great secondary types or both.

Funnily enough, meganium is one of the best starters in gsc because it gets recovery with synthesis combined with either dual screens or swords dance, so it has two niches that not many other pokes have in gen 2 when recovery moves were less widely distributed

It's level up pool was sick, but its stat line was trash and bellsprout tower, into flying gym, into bug gym, into normal gym (nice, a neutral one!), into poison gym... sadly, no. Maganium is not good in GSC. Especially since Typhlosion is pretty much the only fire type you get before the elite 4. I guess you can clock manip to get yourself an early Arcanine, but those are your two options and Arcanine is not practical unless you know about and are willing to abuse the Daylight Savings Time mechanic.

@yungmuney5903 If only counting the standard G/F/W starters within their respective game, then absolutely Red/Blue version Charizard: base 85 Special stat (gets higher in gen 2), only has Ember for STAB until level 46, and can't even learn Fly (meaning you'll need another flying type for that HM move). It may be popular, but popular doesn't always mean it's good. If we're allowing less conventional starters, then Yellow version Pikachu gives Charizard a run for its money.

I honestly think it would be cool to go more in depth with the history of each mon and see why they havent seen competitive success. Draft league and SPL examples could be interesting. Im sure there's a lot of games to sort through so might be too time consuming

Water is always the best option in a logical way. They can learn water moves to stop fire, and ice moves to stop grass. And sometimes they learn ground moves that hit both fire and poison. Logically speaking. Is always the best option

Without the game-based gimmick (Mega, Dynamax or Terastalization) all of the grass starters would fill this list. Grass is such a bad type that it NEEDS one of the gimmicks to even be useful. The only one that stands a chance without a gimmick is Meowscarada and that's literally because it can change its type to not be grass. Rillaboom is a hard maybe but they nerfed Grassy Glide and without tera or Dynamax plenty of pokemon still trounce it.

i feel like Meganium could truly benefit from the treatment it got in Radical Red, with the added fairy typing and triage. Those changes also dont seem too out of the park for the fella anyways, maybe a little stat adjustment to make it more solid in one area rather than being just rather even across the board. Love that guy so much but man its so easy to say its definitely the worst starter out there, and definitely down there in terms of worst overall fully evolved pokemon in general.
