It feels like we’ve been tearing through some of the biggest threats Warcraft has. Legion is gone, Old Hods are gone. Remember how for years the Emerald Dream was theorized to be an upcoming expansion? Well, nope. It seems like the well of foes and lore concepts is drying up. Blizzard may have to start manufacturing threats, which isn’t the worst thing, but the stakes can’t just keep going up.

Well its because they have been wasting all the good plots to just be tedious side quest. Everyone was itching to know what the nightmare was and it wasnt even the focus point for an expansion, just a side quest essentially to legion. And then queen azuara (might have spelled that wrong) was enough to also be a focus point but instead she was just smooshed into a part of an expansion and just defeated randomly

It's like such a good moment right now, since wow has been constantly overtuned ever since the new release of the new expansion, and right now it's not even world of warcraft anymore it's more or less just brand new game, so instead of releasing an expansion every time, they could just release a brand new game, instead of just adding and adding, do something new so players start anew and don't have boosts constantly every expansion, make it a new start for everyone, and of course, you could name it something like "World of Warcraft: A New Beggining". Of course, all this is just an idea, but to be perfectly fucking honest, I am getting tired of new expansions every 1 or 2 yrs, just to pay another 50$ for the same game and then just pay like 10$ a month for no reason at all. I am good with the subscription, what pains me the most is that they legitematlly price their new x-pac's as a brand new game, making us pay either 30$, 50$, or even 80$ based on cosmetic content and even gameplay content(boosts). It's really scamming you at this point.

Was thinking of this too, World of Warcraft 2. After shadowlands, a void or other kinda invasive curruption almost completely destroys Azeroth and with the Dreanei (or other kinda space-ships) we need to travel to an complete new hidden world with an previous unkown world soul. From here on WoW 2 starts happening; All classes remain, all races remain, (or maybe a few stay behind to win time or something), but the rest of the people (the players and important character’s and Horde/Alliance leaders) board the ships. On this new world you arrive on a complete new continent (Alliance on the other side and Horde on another). From there, you can level your way from 1 till X. Blizzard can fill in all the lore they want, as long as it’s good

There could always be another legion invasion, another scourge threat led by Kel'Thuzad, Illidan could return leading the legion to fight another threat, and there could be a 5th war after the night elves and worgen go rouge and attack the horde, with the forsaken and the blood elves going rouge against the alliance. But why the Blood elf tho? If anything they are one of the races who always thinks of switching to the alliance. The Most likely factions going rogue are the Forsaken, The Trolls and the Orcs. The forsaken have already been doing shady things since the beginning of WoW, the Trolls tribe all have something against horde and alliance races (the Zandalari only wants to become the most powerful race on Azeroth, all the other troll tribes except the Darkspear had a war with either the Night Elves, Blood Elves and Humans. The orcs while having some strong figures within their ranks are easily rallied to go to war. Another faction who could be going rogue are the Goblins, most likely going back to a “neutral state” since they do not care about factions just money(also Gallywix is probably still allied to Sylvanas)

Since time work differently in the shadowlands, I suspekt when we eventually return to Azeroth it would probably be years in the future, so who knows what kind of trouble Azeroth might have gotten herself into by then :P My hope it that N`Zoth has been revived (after he escaped using Xalatath) and the the Black Empire has taken over the whole planet, giving us the Old God expansion that we deserve, and not a puny patch as with BfA.

I think we did not defeat the true N'zoth. We fought him in his realm not on Azeroth so for all we know it could have been a battle we fought in our heads and he is still out there.

One thing I would point out is now that you can get to 60 doing like 4% of all the zones, they could easily revamp old zones to be related to some new theme and become high content. I’d love an expansion that has less of a “take down this super force, hero”, and have the vanilla feel of just being a person involved in what’s happening. Azsara could maybe attack the zone she shares a name with, and make her move there. She could even become an antihero by doing such to get ready to face off with the void lords. Maybe zones we’ve been playing for 16 years become something different. (Not necessarily in a cataclysm sense, but just different quest lines and world bosses etc.

Possible enemies in the future: 1. void Lords (surprise!) 2. Major demons (even bigger surprise!) 3. different worlds, plenty to choose from, some destroyed by the legion others By Void, and a group that hasn't been touched by them, and then some rare few that Ner'zhul managed to make portals to before Draenor exploded: invaded by a few orcish clans (and other Draenor inhabitants), even if Ner'zhul landed straight in Kil'jaedan's nasty old hands it doesn't mean all the Draenor inhabitants were screwed completely. 4. the light (I hope we get to beat up some fanatics!) 5. First Ones, only just been revealed in the coming expansion, but there's loads to learn. 6. Emerald Dream enemies, there's more there than the blasted Nightmare, but we don't know what, only Malfurion, Ysera and Cenarius does But now to some that's been overlooked as they're in the lore, are considered ruined or have been benevolent thus far, super exciting: 6. the World Soul that'd been corrupted by the void for which reason Sargeras killed, before he created the legion: Titans can be resurrected, but what about a World Soul? So much to do with that idea, Including a world Soul that'd been infused with other types of energy? Imagine a primal Titan. 7. The remnants of the worlds that housed the World Souls of the Titans we know of today. Could fall under the different worlds, but could also be entirely different planes of existence. 8. The Sporemounds returns: Giant Plants that control the world and were opposed to the Titans work. 9. The Apexis civilization isn't as gone as first thought. 10. The Loa is sick of what we've been doing and wants to set things straight. 11. We never fought The Colossi King Behemothron in Outland. Why not make him a villain? Illidan clearly wanted to ally with him so he's powerful in some capacity. That's my list thus far.

Another threat that could be a future expansion or at least a major patch would be the Mongrel Horde. This was actually going to be the expansion after MOP where Garrosh rallied races like Kobolds, Gnolls, Troggs and murlocs into an army. Honestly i'd prefer something like that for a change. A more grounded threat that isn't over the top and world ending like every other expansion.

Shadowlands opens up the reality that there is an entire universe outside what we know. Azeroth is a very important planet, but who knows what struggles people could be facing -- what threats could be rising -- from other planets many light years away. Shadowlands opens that up as a possibility, although it's hard to imagine a force stronger than the Legion or Old Gods.

Here are my personal opinions on what's possible for future expansions 1 the return of the old gods. Since it was explained that if the old gods died. Azeroth would die. So there not dead. So there return of c'thun, yogg'saron and n'zoth returning united as one against azeroth is possible. 2 a brand new original idea like what there doing with shadowlands. 3 we could face off against the forces of the emerald nightmare. Since that threat has been lingering but never truly explored in wow. 4 the void lords. This is self explanatory. But what if azeroth isn't the only powerful planet. What if there's another. That the void lords successfully recovered. It would be a true test of azeroth and it's champions. The void lords alongside the most powerful being to ever exist. Even more powerful than the titans and void lords combined. I'm talking about a void powered titan. That would be such an interesting threat and thing to explore. 5 the true lich king. Ner'zhul. Returns and retakes the frozen throne to become an even greater threat than arthas. 6 kel'thuzad returns with his own version of the scourge to threaten azeroth. 7 the naru and the forces if the light. We know they aren't completely good. But hear me out. Since the void is opposite of the light. We could see light lords. Just as powerful as void lords but powerful with the light. Along with possibly a light powered titan which theoretically would be just as powerful as a void powered titan. 8. Gallywix is a greedy goblin. If it weren't for his discovery of azerite. BFA may have never happened. So perhaps he could threaten azeroth at some point. Even if it sounds funny and ridiculous. If he were to get enough goblins to follow him and tap into dark powers... It's possible for him to become a legitimate threat. 9. Sargarus. He's not dead. Just imprisoned by the titans and illidan. However it is completely possible for him to escape and reunite the forces of the burning legion and pose a threat to azeroth once again. 10. Bwonsamdi. Although because he's the loa if death he's probably in the shadowlands but if we dont see him. We could have something with the blood curse on the royal family of zandalar and bwonsamdi. 11. The return of the elementals. With ragnarok defeated it was though the firelord had been quelled. However it is possible a new firelord may rise in his place. Or ragnaros just didn't die. 12. The bags are still a threat even with the sea witch dead. However knowing the bags and warcraft universe. The sea witch could return to lead the naga to become a threat to azeroth 13. Azshara could return and become a threat to azeroth.

I personally would hate to see the Light be a villain; even the alt-Draenor Draenei situation wasn't cut and dry, since for that to work we have to pretend the Draenei didn't previously suffer under the Iron Horde (Yrel herself lost her sister, her mentor and is a former slave). I do like the idea of a final conflict between the Light and the Void and we're caught in the middle. Otherwise I think that the highest-ranking demons in the Burning Legion - Tichondrius and Mannoroth, could unite the demons under one banner and become a new threat. Or that Azshara is big threat we have to take on; I would personally like to see Azshara try to reach godhood and we have to stop her (Azshara did talk about seeing true power the last time we saw her, and she's too proud to bend the knee to anyone).

I would say light, blizz likes to use the old xpack to drop hints for the next, and usually ties the story from the last patch. We know now (from lore Q&A) that void once attempted to launch an attack on to shadowlands and failed, and now with the veil down light seeps in to the shadowlands, you can actually see it at revendreth, so I would say that it would be light tied. It could even be something major like this; We know that in it's vision light wants to dominate the universe, whole worlds in stasis, stacks of crystals bearing mortals within them, lying in sleep, in stasis, with perfect order in light. So clearly light wishes to dominate the physical universe and all mortal life. So what if while we try to stop the jailor we oversee the seeping light, and during our last battle against the jailer and sylvi, lights makes a move and starts to expend over shadowlands, we have to leave and close the veil from behind us to prevent the light from reaching. If you woudl like to stretch the idea, we can say that some of the denizens of the shadowlands might even accompany us back, we know that there are new data mined models for some of the covenant races, and we know from in game dialogs that these races can manifest within material plane, some kyrians even said to have traveled through multiple worlds.

I mean after Shadowlands you could make smaller enemies seem large because of all the lives lost in all the recent wars. I also love the idea that time moves different in Shadowlands and the idea that they do a large time jump forward. I doubt they would do that but it would be cool.

I propose we go to an alternate timeline. Perhaps an outland type place. Where we get this new concept called a Brigade or regiment or even Garrison. Some type of stronghold where we can house troops and have some kind of table to plan out our attacks. Then we can get BiS gear from there because we are still fighting the war, just with strategy. The strategy is to level up your troops then get them in epic quality gear and send them away for a few days and it will auto complete. We will design beautiful areas, incredible concept raids and then scrap it shortly before the patch. A few patches later we will give the people a new type of currency to farm. Some kind of crystal. Name is up for debate. And our final raid boss will be a familiar face but nobody will expect. People will love it.

Forcing everyone to leave Azeroth for a new home and figure out a way to destroy the strongest being in existence (corrupted Azeroth). Right, so this could be a huge stretch, but this is something I so wish could happen. Murozond and his dragon flight get away with altering the past slightly and bringing my favourite enemies back (all of them), The Old Gods, in a TRUE expansion, and not some shoehorned patch. Also, I’d love to have some more story about the Nerubians. Old God minions who left their service and lived their own lives in their own society. They could be the ones to help us against the Old Gods and also they are the last of the Azj’ races that haven’t been brought back yet.

I think that WoW is exhausting what it can really give us, so with Starcraft 2 dwindling away they could make a Warcraft 4 that introduces new things in an epic way. That way they have a big time gap and can make a WoW2 in a fresh engine. In that time, after Shadowlands, they could release an expansion on something like a continent on the other side of Azeroth that we go to as adventurers (and lacking Horde/Alliance involvement) and involve ourselves in what's going on with the people there. A bit like what Mists of Pandaria started out with, with your faction only determining the particular ship and crew you go there with and what direction you go to get there.

Don’t we have Xal’atath? She worked with N’zoth to break free and make their move but we don’t really know if she still works with the Old Gods cuz she was never mentioned among the old gods we don’t even know if she actually is an actual old god or one of the minions.

I wonder if the final battle against the Maw might cause the irredeemable souls to be unleashed into Azeroth and other worlds. I also think Sylvanas will usurp the Jailers' position as the new ruler of the Maw and would lead the Maw's forces against Azeroth and other worlds as well. However, I think she might try to use the Maw's forces to hunt down the Titans or possibly the remnants of the First Ones.

After shadowlands i want a cataclysmic like expansion. There are so many loose ends to finish up with all the races on azeroth and this would also be a good time to update the areas in the continents with new stories, graphic wise, etc. while also building up the next big antagonist for the expansion after that

I actually don't mind Sylvanas. She's the only reason the plot has been moving forward since Garrosh died. I just don''t want them to treat her like the cartoon character of the weak where we instead of having a long-term overarching plan she just twirls her mustache and goes "Drats, foiled again!" everytime we confront her. If Sylvanas does die this expansion I hope that she admitted to having a long-term plan at least. Something that will introduce us nicely to the next expansion and keep the story moving

Just because I'm feeling a bit nostalgiac and reflective right now, I have to wonder: if Blizzard had the hindsight that they do now, with regards to world-building and the lore of seven, soon to be eight, expansions behind them, would they change the order of the threats we face? Maybe looking back, they'd have chosen to make Wrath the second xpac. I mean, it makes sense in a way. Ending Classic by beating Kel'Thuzad, which then kicks off the fight against the Scourge. Or maybe they choose to shake up the contents of the lore with each xpac. Maybe they now wish they'd have had elements of the Emerald Dream/Nightmare in Cata. I'd just love to get a retrospective from the Blizz devs to get their thoughts on how they view their expansions, and how each one has impacted what came after.

We have to remember blizz told us a lot of time passes outside the shadowlands. So when the rift gets closed tons of time would have passed on azeroth the world might not even be the same.

I'd like to see at the end of Shadowlands, the world soul of Azeroth awaken and spilt the world in two forcing the populace to move to another world and start WoW II. This would would cause our characters to be minions again, not heroes, champions or class order hall leaders. From this point, after Shadow Lands, what can we accomplish? Maybe the world soul moves us to protect us and starts a third faction to fight shadow and light.

I can’t think of anything else honestly, their could be a patch in shadowlands where we travel to some point of after life where the light and Elune resonate. But I really think wow is near it’s end and the next expansion would be the void lords and a good transition to this with shadowlands ends with us finding Illidan in the shadowlands and he tells us how he died, maybe he failed to kill Sargeras or during his fight the clashed with a single void lord and all the Titian keeper had died in the proses telling us how high the stakes are. And he start the expansion leaving in the exadar ship flying in space and it wouldn’t be a world zone but multiple world zones like Outland, broken and destroyed by the void lords but some remaining life and potential allies races. Eventually leading up to the void lords And the titan awakening destroying Azeroth as we assist her against the void lords. I think this would make a good ending to the game and potential make WoW2 set on a different planet

You know who also is left? The normal regional enemies, that needs to be kept in check by the heroes during their formation. But now, canonically, all the heroes are locked in the shadowlands and those enemies can thrive. The Scourge is now free and is going crazy on all Azeroth and their suine friends in the Barrens are expanding since Cataclysm (they also have new models in BFA). What if the government turmoil in the human kingdom can leave a breach in the defense open for the Gnolls to conquest back redridge and much more. We already know that the Scarlet Crusade is coming back to be a fenomenal enemy and also the Defias are lurking in the shadow since Legion. The Venture Co. has raided Mechagon Island even without their Mogul, someone else has brought them back in business immediately, they invented the Undeath Poison used by the zanzil trolls, maybe the cult of the damned can be inserted in the plot. The navy of Zandalar and Kul Tiras are now heavily damaged, perfect time for the Kvaldir to rise. I would love to see all of them becoming Azeroth's Champions level threats.

I started playing 2years ago and I'm kinda worried about the future of wow. We're running out of villains from the main lore. Of course blizzard can come up with new villains but it wouldn't feel that fun

What if we return into the past, more exactly into the times of wars between Titans and Old Gods? Ancient continents, titan-forged, Black empire, elemental lords? What if we change the entire history of Warcraft by not imprisoning, but defeating all of the Old Gods? Then after this expansion we find a way to return to our timeline where The Void Lords just have barely started their second invasion to Azeroth by creating a being that is more powerful than the four Old Gods combined. But now Neltharion is alive and sane, all dragon aspects are at their full strength and ready to aid us. Titan-forged didn't also go nuts, so they wake up at the time we arrive. They know us for millennia cuz as I mentioned early, we destroyed the Old Gods together when we went back in time. I think our hero, along with the heroes like Thrall, Jaina, Bolvar and etc could become a part of this time-travel story in lore just like the epic story of Broxigar, Krasus and Ronin. In this new timeline, Arthas never became The Lich King and haven't died and defeated the Scourge as it is no longer that powerful due to the events occured in Shadowlands but he failed to save Jaina who died along with Thrall and Tyrande during the end of Third war. Let's say Malfurion was too late with the whisps. Bolvar died at the gate while fighting the scourge and Anduin was the one slain by Gul'Dan, not his father. These saints will be resurrected out of thin air at the most dire times when Azeroth needs them and will reunite once again.

And take in concideration, so far we've only battled the shadow, but never the light, the light might seem good, but that's not necessarily the case, the light is only a placebo for what appears to be good, but there's for sure some imbalance in there.

they really really need to revamp the old maps. Like Silvermoon, gilneas, iron forge, bilgewater harbour, suramar, thunder bluff, stormgarde, shadowforge, darkspear, these are all wasted places that nobody ever goes to unless they have quests or are levelling. Also there is no reflection of progress in maps, maybe a few due to expansion content but its still very sad. Like what happened to the death scar? Are the eastern plaguelands still infested? shouldnt pandaria be prospering because of several years of peace?

I think one more demonic expansion isn't out of the question either. Who is the strongest entity of Disorder we've encountered so far? The answer is Mannoroth and he was one-shotted by warrior, twice. Sargeras originated from Order, as did Eredar and with recent lore hints it's very likely that Nathrezim also originate from Shadowlands and just consumed fel until they became enough demonic to pass as real demons. On the other hand it also makes sense that Disorder lacks any leadership of its own but without Sargeras they would be the weakest force of the six, hands down. So if Blizzard needs enemy, just do what they recently did with Light and its "lightlords" behind Naarus and introduce the real big Disorder guy pulling the string. Maybe it stayed hidden because Sargeras its job better than it ever could so why disrupt it. Or maybe Sargeras already captured it and one of the reasons why he needed Argus was to keep it sealed just as Covenants use anima to keep Jailor in Maw. That would require some retconning and bullshit explanations but that's nothing new to WoW storytelling. And now that Sargeras is gone, and rest of the Pantheon has to use all their might to keep him that way, the real leader of demons is free to do whatever it wants. And since it's actually confirmed that time works differently in Twisting Nether, we could easily witness product of thousands of years of gathering forces after we're done with current expansion. Again, cheap storytelling but it would still make perfect sense in current lore. And how would this demonic force invade Azeroth? Why, Rift of Aln of course as it was established as link to Twisting Nether. It's as if Blizzard did all these explanations about Twisting Nether just to leave themselves door open for that content if they ever run out of other villains.

I really hope that the difference in the flow of time actually equates to something of a time skip in the mortal realm. It would be really cool if the champions finish up in Shadowlands and return home, only to realize that several years have passed. How about some major city changes? Orgrimmar is a cultural hub for the entire horde. Maybe we could see more Troll and Tauren influence in the architecture. The Tauren like high plateaus, maybe they could have a district in the rocky plateaus around Orgrimmar. Maybe we see a district where Forsaken and Sindorei architecture blend together, as the two do have many things in common, so it makes sense that their districts might intersect. As for Stormwind, the Gilneans and the Night Elves are now both displaced. Maybe we start seeing enchanted tree-houses and gothic architecture arise on the fringes of Stormwind as these groups start to make Stormwind their new home. And hell, there's already a Dwarven district, but it really doesn't feel like it. Let's see some actual Dwarven architecture in the Dwarven district! Maybe the Draenei, now that the Legion gone, finally start to see Azeroth as their permanent home, and thus they feel more comfortable adding their own cultural touches to other Alliance hubs like Stormwind. We could see Draenei crystals dot other cities as a power source, replacing primitive firelight braziers and torches. Speaking of Gilneas, it's gotten lip service here and there, but I would really like to see some actual development on that front. And nearby Gilneas is Shadowfang Keep. You realize that Vincent Godfrey is still the "master" of SFK? He's now been the final boss of that instance for longer than Arugal held that title, and Godfrey hasn't been relevant to lore in years. It just feels weird how outdated some things are. It would be cool to finally see the Plaguelands almost fully reclaimed from the Scource, and maybe Stratholme becomes a new seat of power for the Silver hand. I'm curious to see what happens to Lorderon in general, now that Sylvanas is no longer directing the Forsaken. TL:DR, the Old World could use a Cataclysm-style shake-up. And man, if they extended that to Outland and Northrend, that would be mad. They won't, but it would be cool

Indeed I'd love to see something like that. A sort of "Anti-Catsclysm" where the world and its people begin to heal and settle down while we the players and some of the NPCs deal with the issues on shadowlands. We return to see the disparate races of the alliance and the horde have grown closer, Gilneas, the plaguelands, Lordaeron, etc. Are repopulated, everyone is happy, and then BOOM! Void lords show up beckoned by the old gods (let's not forget that Yogg Saron and C'thun are alive and well and still just chilling in their prisons, and I strongly doubt we've seen the end of N'zoth in the same patch he was properly introduced to the world.). It would be the strongest ever armies of Azeroth Vs. The biggest threat we ever faced. We suffer losses at every step, important lore characters die in droves during several raid tiers, or worse, some of them are corrupted and we have to kill them ourselves. And by the end the Titan Azeroth is born and aids us in the battle, finally dealing the first serious blow to the enemy forces in the entire expac. The final cut scene is the remnants of the factions and Azeroth fleeing the scene Draenei-style seeing as not even the most powerful titan is a match for the full might of the void, and at the end we get a hint that Azeroth might have been corrupted a little by the old gods after all during her time "gestating" inside the planet. And then we get a space expac.

@@lucasruas7790 No I will not Include The other side of Azeroth, if you mean the Emerald Nightmare I'm not sure about that either but if something else is supposed to happen to it or the Green Dragonflight in the future and we have to destroy the demention entirely I can role with that, and we'd also need at least a 5th zone if the planes would be the leveling zones so that makes the Elemental Planes difficult especially reusing deepholm as a questing zone again. I don't believe in that other side of Azeroth shot people speculate but we could do Tel'abim (which would fit into the new threats category sice it would be similar to Mists as in something new we don't fight) The Undermine, which is an underground continent under Kezan (something people have wanted for years since there are no expansions that completely/mostly take place underground) and it would be the perfect time to add Tinkerer as a new full class to the roster (which is currently the vocally highest requested class by the fanbase) Dragon Isles which would fit into the Infinite Dragonflight or the Chromatus category K'aresh which fits into void category And the rest of the Legion worlds (Blizzard did say we will see those again in the future) which fits remnants of the Legion category

I really hope that killing N’Zoth was an illusion. We come back from the Shadowlands to find that the void lords have freed all of the old gods and destroyed most of Azeroth. This gives an opportunity for a world revamp. The expansion zones will be void worlds. I doubt that would be the last expansion, but the game will officially end one day with Azeroth “hatching.”

I've been playing since Vanilla and when Shadowlands got released, I logged back in to get ready for lauch and something hit me. Why do I have to pay £10 to "subscribe" and then another £35 for the expac too? I thought we were past all of this bullshit. Don't think I'll return again, but will always follow the lore.
