This does not negate the fact that many black woman continuously gain weight due to the stress the have to endure in their community. Majority of these struggles are aided by systemic racism. Not all black women are subjected to this but a very large amount are left to deal with financially unstable kids and grandchildren, incarcerated relatives, racial stereotyping etc. These can very well lead to stress which aids obesity. I think the ted talk and the other video had some valid points.

But in all seriousness this is my favorite comment. The cultural Marxist ideology is an easy way to remove personal accountability from ones self and obtain free sympathy from others and self. Destroy individual, but promote the victim group. It comes at the cost of freedom but they don’t care. In these times always embrace your individual, work hard, use what’s good about capitalism while we still have it, feed your family because we’re not socialists and therefore not starving yet. Live life as a free human.

@LM Well, it’s technically both. These communities all live in impoverished areas. If you go to Nigeria or Mexico, in areas that are not heavily Americanized have very different body types and diets. In native Americans case, once they went on reservations they were given rations that were wheat and cheese and dairy, and health problems began, getting mixed in with tradition. But lest we forget fry bread wasn’t before colonization . Flour tortillas weren’t here before colonization. African Americans were disenfranchised and therefore also given bad food through government assistance programs. Look at recent Somali or Sudanese or Ethiopian ( just as an example but recent immigrants are typically similar)communities, they still hold their traditional foods and don’t experience the same problems. The Apache and Navajo are doing remarkable things to go back to their traditional food sources not only for health but also economic reasons, they are a great resource for other communities that would like to readopt an autonomous food system.

We dropped sugary drinks (we do drink home made ice tea and once in a while drink a soda) and mostly drink water. Stopped cooking with so much salt and started air frying, baking and grilling our food. My mom and brother have lowered their cholesterol and high blood pressure and my sister and I have lost weight. We do occasionally eat chips or a chocolate but not like we used to. You have to want to change how you eat, you can’t blame others for your choices.

It is also responsible for nerve conductivity. I was always dehydrated and listened to my idiot doctor to go low sodium and it was killing my efforts. Stan put me on the right track. We are both women, but this very obese woman with crazy ideas and excuses should not personally embarrass us just because we are also women. We can't be responsible for millions or billions of people just because we have similar physical characteristics. I have brown eyes, you most likely have brown eyes too. We can't possibly be responsible for all people with brown eyes. I know you are smart and thoughtful so I'm sure you get my point. A margin of victimhood and trauma has to do with the degree to which one fixates on it. It's like wallowing in depression, nurturing grudges, indulging anxiety to the point where it becomes panic. People who insist on "validating" their emotions as a matter of course are responsible for the consequences of their own self-indulgence.

“obese” is literally a medical term used to describe the condition of a male or female whose body fat percentage is above 25 or 32 percent respectively. It isn’t “anti” anyone. It isn’t violent. It isn’t hate speech. It’s a medical condition just like diabetes or cardiovascular disease or arthritis. The difference is that this medical condition is within a person’s own control, and when people are being held responsible for their own actions and their consequences, they try to shift the blame to others.

A wisecrack, I get it, but here is a serious answer anyway. From what I heard/read, an observant Jewish person is supposed to recite a specific blessing before eating or drinking anything. I read that the Talmud teaches that whoever enjoys something without giving thanks to God is _stealing_ from the Almighty (emphasis is mine). So... being intentional, being mindful seems to be the key. That is often given as the reason why there are hardly any obese people among observant Jews, and not many smokers or alcoholics nor drug addicts either.

Sydney is being a bit disingenuous on that point. The black woman did NOT say racism is the cause of obesity, she said it is a contributing factor. And insofar as racism is causing a person stress, then yes it is contributing. I can't stand when conservatives make lazy and disingenuous arguments like that, because it's both wrong, and unnecessary. I have known many obese people, and I do believe stress can add to it. Food and relaxation is how they manage stress. After a hard day, they want "comfort food" and 4 hours of television. All of the obese I have known have been white, and there is no doubt for me that an obese black woman would suffer an extra helping of stress due to racism, or at the very least, her expectations of racism. The answer is simple, and it works for all peoples. We need to teach that you destress with exercise, not pizza and TV. Going for a walk in the park can be the most calming thing in the Universe. Anyway, a year too late, but I loved your video. You are informative and funny. I had a great time. Thank you.

East Asian girls seem to be slimmer, finer boned and dainty on average. This gets down to genetics, smaller bodies deal best with humid heat due to the higher surface area to weight ration. Black women accumulate fat in the buttocks as this gives them fat reserves without insulating their bodies from heat loss. The main element is human biodiversity (race). People should just chill out because the differences are not great. Id say a big factor is jealousy.
