I think it could have been a hidden “hide away” for the royal family during the civil war in OOT. Basically it was well armed, well hidden behind Zora’s Domain that was also hidden fairly well and so remote in a place attack’s would not come from but a place that would be incredibly hard to attack. The remoteness, defense and all the very personal royal belongings make perfect sense. Who else could afford a luxury home/castle in one? The place is built to be both luxury and defense. Why give the knights who are warriors such finery? If the finery was designed for some more say royal groupings that would start to make sense. The size of the master bedroom is fit for a king and queen. Finally, it’s forgotten due to shame. How shameful would it be if say the king, not trusting his own defenses, ran off or planned to run off and hide during a war? The shame would drag the royal family reputation through the mud. Maybe it was swept under the rug to save face and because of this, only the say king and queen knew of the location or maybe the king of the time died with the shame to “protect the royal family honor”.. it makes sense to me.

@@lukevaughn4450 In retrospect, I'm not sure that any of the three bosses protecting the fragments of the Mirror of Twilight were "evil," so much as "reflexively protective of their shards." Like, neither Yeta nor Armaghoma attacked anyone that wasn't in the same room as it and Argorak (sp?) was in an open area and only attacked people as they got closer to where its fragment was so it may have been working on the same principle. And in the case of Yeto/Yeta, they are the only ones who are shown to actually be sentient rather than just big territorial animals, and have massive helpings of The Power of Love (TM) to help keep them sane and friendly when someone isn't about to take the fragment (and Yeta's apparent illness may have made her more susceptible, explaining why Yeto didn't join in on the boss fight).

To me, this just screams like something the OOT Link would've lived in. Even in Hyrule's peak, nobody would need to know about places like the City in the Sky. Moreso, I think that this is a product of a third adventure by the OOT Link, a conquest that took him to the new and reformed Zoras Domain, the city in the sky, and all the places pictured. A quest that finally gave him the the eye of the royal family. They then post him to this mansion as it's overseer with a batch of soldiers, to defend Hyrule from whatever lurks beyond the island of Hyrule. But with a patch to the place deteriorating, and no invasion coming, the royals pulled out of the mansion, leaving Link there to die in his old age, alone

I personally think that it’s a hidden base for the royal family in the event they get booted out of the interior. It’s isolated and very defensible and armed with some of the most advanced technology available to hyrule. It has many defensive points but also has luxury items that wouldn’t be found in just ANY other military instillation, It clearly can house both regular soldiers and high profile officials. It might function as a fallback base for the hyrule government in the event of invasion or some other catastrophe. Similar to how Cheyenne mountain functions for the US government in real life. The real mystery to me is why was this place abandoned? I doubt the yetis removed the guards (they appear to be quite friendly to hylians all things considered), and it’s clear by all the remaining equipment and artifacts that it was likely abandoned in a hurry it likely wasn’t something natural like an earthquake because the majority of the building remains in perfectly standing order, the only damage appears to be due to time and neglect. The problem is that I can’t think of any reason for such a strong defensive point to be so hurriedly abandoned, if they simply abandoned it due to an inability to maintain a permanent base of operations then why leave all that high tech (by Zelda standards) equipment and valuables there

Quite a lengthy comment ahead, take the sword of time in hand, and carry on. I have three theories of what this place might have been. 1. A winter get away, or a bunker of some sorts for the royal family Incase the castle was no longer an option to stay at. Having elite guards for the royals’ protection, some living accommodations, and weapons, it may have worked. 2. A training ground for recruits to get used to the brutal circumstances that a soldier may face. 3. The training grounds for Hyrule’s best of the best, the Dark Nuts. Having Dark Hammer as their captain and trainer, before he became a monster, would force them to be the best, even greater than elite guards. My idea of Dark Hammer being turned into a monster relates to the Dark Nuts being monsters/enemies. They were soldiers that may have chosen to serve Ganondorf in order for their lives to be spared, that is if they didn’t have a family to come home to. Elite of the elite soldiers willing to serve someone else in order to save themselves. Well, those are my thoughts.

Well, my theory is that since the Hero of Time recreated the Knights of Hyrule after it's destruction in the Unification War. Considering the state and mansion's odd location, I imagine Snowpeak Mansion had far easier access way before TP, since OOT's geography and TP's are massively different. Maybe the Royal Family had a hidden path to transfer the supplies without the other clans noticing, but it withered or got destroyed/blocked over time as the land changed. Its possible it could have easily been built to safeguard outside threats. We know there's a vast world outside of Hyrule, we just never really explored it, but a few games definitely point to outside forces wanting to invade Hyrule in the past. Snowpeak Mansion could have been one of these outside defenses, much like the Akkada Citadel in Breath of the Wild looking over the eastern ocean. The mansion DOES have battle damage all over it, suggesting a skirmish happened at some point before TP, after OOT since there's a painting of Rutela, who died some time before TP (How long is unknown though, but her spirit lingered so her death must have not been too long prior to the game's starting point). For all we know, OOT/MM Link could have suggested building it after he grew up and became a Knight. Link's experience would have been a valuable asset to the royal family, and as someone who has explored the outsides of Hyrule, the Royal Family would be all ears for whatever Link has to say. Maybe OOT/MM Link was the one in charge of the Mansion and trained disciples. His ghost in TP does claim he has regrets for never passing his knowledge. Maybe the knights that the Royal Family sent were just not living up to his standards. He demonstrates one of his deadliest skills at Snowpeak, interestingly enough, the wolf is looking at the direction of the Mansion. I don't believe that to be a coincidence.
@AgnusCavichioliPereira5 жыл бұрын
I was thinking something on those lines. What if the previous "owner" of the mansion was the Hero of Time? As in, it was a stronghold under his command, used to train the Royal Knights and act as a line of defense or even a hideout for the Royal Familly? It's not big stretch to think The Hero of Time would have acess to the places and people in those paintings, even the Sky Temple. But, are there more evidences on that hypotesis?
@Axel1815 жыл бұрын
@@AgnusCavichioliPereira Not much. Some of the tools you get in TP tend to say that they belonged to 'The Hero', but its never explained as to why. What did the Hero of Time do between OOT's end and prior to TP that earned him the title of Hero? Only Zelda knew of his heroics as the Hero of Time, so my guess is that there was a war prior to TP, maybe even before Ganondorf was sealed in the Twilight Realm (For the record, his sealing happened around 60-70 years prior to TP's starting point), since several parts of Hyrule Field do have some battle damage, as does Snowpeak. OOT Link may have changed the tide of this unknown war, and Snowpeak could be where he trained his army. As to OOT Link visiting the temples of TP, its possible that he did, but how is a question we have no answers to, sadly.

You know I think mybe that's where impa from ocarina of time took Zelda to train after gannondorph took over hyrule.... until the hyrule/gurudo war ended. The snow mansion not only provided comfort, but it was secluded enough that it couldn't be reached through normal means(atleast withought risking death from monsters/exposure). It was also well built in a well fortified position making siege or invasion impossible by armies large or small, making it easily defendable. Along with the way the mansion within was built, allowed a small force to reside within, aswell as providing enough space to build training areas, storage areas, even puzzle rooms and gotlets to train those who resided withen mentally/physically. And given impas sheka training the is place was perfect for her, giving her a advantage. So it would be a perfect place to train Zelda stealth techniques, close/mid combat, and give her the mental training to steel herself for the future.

@hikaru96245 жыл бұрын
I don't know if this would help your theory but I couldn't help but notice how you left out one room in particular, the small church inside the mansion. It's function would undoubtedly be to hold funeral services along with whatever religious services Hyrule would have and I personally don't think a Yeti owned the place or were being trained to fight given the suits of armours lack of something for the tail on male Yeti. Now it's not impossible that the suits were made for the smaller female Yeti but I doubt they would go to war. Also there is a possibility that other such buildings are in the snow head region as what's her face (I forgot her name) is familiar with the region like you said and is wearing a crest on her armour. I personally think the mansion was owned by a Lord of some sort who's family was loyal to the royal family but were besieged by Ganondorf's forces during the conflict that inevitable occurred when the Hero of Time warned Zelda about Ganondorf.
@ADHD_and_Crayons5 жыл бұрын
Many others have said it....the mansion was prob owned by the royal family. The various sitting rooms have limited chairs (king & queen). The location makes sense as it's surroundings are defensive. Knights wouldn't have a convenient route for training purposes....since I didn't notice any inside training areas, it makes sense that this mansion would be for the royal family & trusted knights.

I wish the Zelda team would have included such a memorable landmark in BOTW! One thing though, the armor that decorates the mansion is fairly large for any human and the mini boss was a large lizardfo that was wearing such large armor.... maybe it was a distant enemy stronghold at the edge of hyrule that got abandoned? I noticed a lot of the local enemies you encounter in TP are more military style and don armor and weapons. Unlike the moblins that seem mindless and take orders blindly the lizardfo are more battle oriented and independent. Maybe after the fortress fell and their leader was defeated the lizardfo army dispersed around hyrule. As far as the City in the Sky references there is that airal lizardfo mini boss that you have to fight. It also wears armor and uses tactile warfare to confuse you. Just some food for thought.

I assumed that this place was a strong hold for the Royal Family in case of an invasion and they would be safe far, far away from the castle in the middle of the mountains but my biggest theory is that this mansion was used as a sort of lookout tower for the Arbiters Grounds, in case a prisoner got lose and ran north into Snowpeak. These prisoners would think no one would find them in the snowy north but the mansion would be there, loaded with knights waiting for them. Just my 2 cents...

My thoughts toward the end - The "Master Bedroom" area doesn't have to actually be a master bedroom area, it could have just been where the Yeti's chose to make their room, and they grabbed furniture across the house. It could have been a meeting or planning, war room type area, or something else. Or it could have just been a bedroom. I feel like the lizard wearing the armor is definitely the intended wearer for the armor set. The question that leaves is why a Hyrule affiliated mansion would have equipment suitable for large lizard men. But Yeto is absolutely too big to wear that, while Yeta is too gentle; No certainty as to if they reflect on their entire species or not. Also, how Darkhammer managed to linger there for so long, without bothering the Yeti's or being noticed by them, even though he cornered us in a hallway leading to a room that the Yeti's use to store things. The paintings of significant figures in the land of Hyrule, well, the Zora's domain is directly adjacent to the mansion, so nothing odd there. But the Oocca being there in a painting, as well, adds some dating to this mansion, obviously it was erected long ago, also while Rutella was still alive, and it was erected in a time period where the Oocca were still in contact. It's possible that some form of infighting led to the fall of the mansion, as it could have very well been an attempt to overthrow the kingdom, for example. Okay, stupid speculation time - it would actually be a really cool origin story if it turns out all of the Darknuts are actually Hylian's that originated in this Mansion. giving them the back story of being renegades from a previous civil war or conspiracy, or something of the like.

Maybe snowpeak was originally owned by the usurpers, a secret place to do wierd magics. Then after they were banished, the royal family took it over as an emergency home away from home , then finally after that it was turned into a training ground for royal knights and the Sheikah. The usurpers did wierd magic stuff and the sheikah did dark experiments so the giant armour may be apart of either of those?

Along with portraits of very rare locations, there is also a large amount of portraits of Ordon plus the pumpkin and goat cheese. I've always thought links parents at one point lived there or were perhaps knights there before moving home to ordon to retire.

The suits of armor sorta match the general proportions of a Goron, and before the Zora region got frozen, that could have been another death-mountain like location. The Yeti-Tails (On the only male that we see) would make said suits of armor somewhat pointless, especially being that there is no additional armor for their tails.
@General12th4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree it could be a base for some of the knights of the kingdom, and in fact it might be a border station between Hyrule and an adjacent territory. I also agree it could have been built there for the yetis to join the ranks of the knights. We don't see many goron or zora knights, but if they exist, yeti knights could exist too! I suspect some lord owned the mansion, not any one knight. But if that's not the case -- maybe it belongs to the knight-captain -- we could imagine Ashei's father was that knight-captain. Or maybe not. There's not enough evidence to go either way on any of this. It's just fun to speculate.

I once watched a french theory about Zora's evolution where they said that the Snowpeak's mansion was indeed a stronghold where the Hyrule Royal Family knights used it as a base against the war with Ganondorf after Link alerted Zelda of his plans at the end of OoT due to it's geographical location near Gerudo Desert. The Zoras aided them in this war and also used the stronghold, and that's why there is a photo of Queen Rutela in the mansion. I think that's a cool way to think about this mystery.

I always assumed it was a holiday home, or hideaway for the royal family. It would make sense to send the queen and princess away somewhere safe during the war (like the one before OOT). Maybe, that's where impa took young Zelda, while she trained to become sheik. Defended by guards, and possibly the Yeti, another of the royal family's secret connections. This would explain why it has a distinctly royal feel. I would have loved to see some reference to this place in BOTW, even just a few ruins buried in snow, or a one of the mountains in Hebra, or behind Zora's domain being called snowpeak. This dungeon is possibly one of my favourites in the series, as it was challenging, but had fun and unique mechanics behind it. There felt like there was so much more to discover, and I wish we had more background on it.

I'm not saying its the same building, but as I watch this video, the botw Akalla Citadel came to my mind. A high fortified structure that might be a residence for soldiers which is also far away from the castle. Probably if the area is explorable the inside of the citadel will also have similar stuff.

Random thought here, in that they could be related, distant cousins or the like, and the house belongs to The Hero of Time who died defending his family during an attack on the mansion leaving his wife to flee, much like in the prologue to OoT. If her father was the Hero of Time's oldest ancestor he may be too old to wield the Triforce, falling to the next incarnation. It's already been shown in A Link to the Past that Link's uncle had darker hair so it wouldn't be impossible for at least one decent to carry that trait.
@ryukiravenwing85304 жыл бұрын
The shape looks like a goron to me. Perhaps the large armor was used by Goron soldiers working in tandem with Hylans up in the rocky, mountainous area. We know Gorons hate cold from Majoras Mask, so when staying at the fort/mansion, they may need the extra layering for warmth and protection. Armor, however is not flexible, so perhaps when they left the mansion to return to town/death mountain after whatever they were at the fort for they may prefer to go armor-less to allow them to curl and roll through the snow for more speed.

With all the weapons and mechanisms, i think it's clear it was a mansion fortress placed there, not to be defended BY Zora's Domain, but to defend IT from any attack from that side. Because of how screwed up the mansion is and how ridiculously perilous the path is, we can assume the path was NOT that extreme in the past. Perhaps, during the war, rebels [or even another kingdom since we know Hyrule is just one location] would attack from that direction and they built the place to defend the Zoras.

I don't think the armor was intended to be out of place. Hyrule Castle has armor sets of very similar size and functionally work the same as in snowpeak (You can smash them with the ball and chain). I think Nintendo also wanted to follow up with any theories seeing as in the 2006 release the crest in Snowpeak is nowhere in Hyrule castle. The spot where it would eventually show in Hyrule Castle the HD version was originally just the classic Triforce and bird crest in the original. With this, it becomes clear that Nintendo obviously has some intention to connect the two. In my opinion, they haven't left enough clues to put it together if they ever intended for us to do so. But great video! Been waiting literal years for someone to cover the Snowpeak Ruins.

Funny enough the 6th issue of the Twilight Princess manga, Ashei says her family owns it and grew up in the mansion. When she left to become a knight the mansion was abandoned and the Yeti's moved in. But the manga is considered non-canon, so it would make sense that the game probably goes for a different reason. My theory is that it is owned by a family sworn to protect the royal family (not sheikah tribe related) and this mansion serves as a hideout for them to evacuate to if Hyrule Castle were to ever fall into enemy hands.

In the game, it is said that Ganondorf launched an invasion of Hyrule at some point prior to both his arrest and failed execution. Since we know that his originally-planned coup in Ocarina of Time was prevented by Link's warning Zelda about the future, perhaps Ganondorf called off his coup when he discovered that his treasonous ambitions had been exposed, and instead fled Hyrule to lay low for a while before returning in full force to invade Hyrule some time later. This invasion probably led to a full-on war in which Castle Town fell to his forces, leaving Zelda and the Knights of Hyrule little recourse but to retreat to a remote location and establish a new base of operations from which they could both defend themselves and plot to take back the kingdom from Ganondorf's army. Said base could be the Snowpeak Mansion. The location would even serve to benefit the Hylians more than the Gerudo since the Hylians would be able to adapt to the cold better since the Gerudo are more used to hotter climates, what with their being people of the desert. After the war ends and Ganondorf is finally arrested for his war crimes, the mansion could have been continued to be used as a training ground for the Knights of Hyrule or, perhaps, used as a sort of museum, explaining all of the painting seen within it, which I doubt would have been much of a concern during the war. Or, maybe a little of both, with the knights continuing to use it as a facility of theirs but also simply livening up the place with some historical paintings in respect of the kingdom and its allies (like the Zoras and the Oocca, explaining the portraits of Queen Rutella and the City in the Sky). The master bedroom is also fit for royalty, making Zelda a good candidate for at least one of that room's known occupants (other important figures could have lived in it following the war since Zelda would have returned to living at Hyrule Castle by that point). So, yeah, I like to think that the mansion is the base at which Zelda and the Knights of Hyrule were stationed during the war against Ganondorf that took place after Ocarina of Time's ending and before Ganondorf's execution flashback seen in Twilight Princess.
@MrNecromancerMan5 жыл бұрын
I know that when Link of Ocarina of Time was sent back to his childhood, he warned Zelda what Ganondorf was planning, then there was a great war, then Ganondorf was banished to the Twilight Realm. Everything you see, from Snow Peak Ruins to the decayed and abandoned Old Castle Town and Temple of Time are all remnants of the Hylian Gerudo War. I can imagine there was a lot of displacement which explains why there was Kokiri influence in Faron with the Forest Temple they built, then after the war, they returned to the Lost Woods. The Skull Kid perhaps was tasked to stay where the ruins of Ocarina of Time's Hyrule Castle Town and Temple of Time to guard the Master Sword, maybe by the Sheikh, who also put the Guardian Statues there. I digress. We know Link of Ocarina of Time returned from Termina, I'm wondering if Snow Peak Ruins is Links old Fortress, you see a boy in the pictures at Hyrule Castle, he came back and fought in the war, probably met many creatures from many races asking for assistance to defeat Ganondorf before dying at some point in the conflict. You see Hero's Shade wearing strange Armour that could fit with Snowpeak and Ashei's people, on that part its more of a hunch than anything, but I think Snow Peak Ruins was the Hero of Times Fortress before he died. Also of note, he reincarnated as the Link we see in Twilight Princess, and the Hero's Shade is a manifestation of the Hero of Times regret. In a sense when the Hero of Twilight comes to Snowpeak Mansion, it's almost like a home coming of sorts if you think about it. Lastly, I want to say that the location of Snowpeak Ruins is actually Mount Lanayru, but I'm pretty sure it's in Hebra. We know that Zora's Domain moved to another location sometime after Twilight Princess and the New Hyrule Castle was built upon the old Zora's Domain and became the new centre of Hyrule. So it all sort of fits I think.

Here's a thought: What if it was a "bug out bunker"? Modern day governments have bunkers in remote locations that they could potentially move VIPs to in emergencies (e.g. if Washington D.C. was nuked during a State of the Union address, there's always a "Designated Survivor" hidden out somewhere) I'm not sure this was common to feudal/middle ages cultures, but what if this was some kind of emergency fortress where you would take the Royal Family to hide out in case Hyrule was ever attacked, or, at least, the women/children of the family? Basically, the Helm's Deep of Hyrule. The other likely thought to me is that it was a defense against the northern lands, but we don't really ever hear anything about any peoples to the north...
