I cannot tell you how important this is and how much good it can do. Both the events and the video to share the idea have the power to bring people together, multigenerationally. I hope these ideas can infuse more energy into our Chinatown too. Sometimes I feel we are presented with a false dichotomy between gentrification and the status quo, but these projects in Toronto show that a different path is possible. ❤

I don't get why drag has been getting a bad rap recently here in the UK. Well, I *kind* of get it - dark money and astro-turfing from the usual US hate groups is a big part of it, sadly. But a disturbing amount seems home-grown. Pantomime is a yearly tradition in the UK, and has been for decades. Parents take their kids at Christmas. Men dress up as women in theatre and films so much that it's practically ingrained into British culture, particularly because women just weren't allowed on stage for a long time. It's like the people losing their rag over drag performances know less about the world than most children. I guess it's just down to them being uncomfortable with something and someone who looks and behaves too differently, and wanting an excuse to justify that discomfort. It's just sad and embarrassing to witness someone choosing to live a life so joylessly.

Right? I was definitely reminded of panto acts in some of these clips. "Oh but some of the jokes are lewd", yeah, so's panto!!!

In many cultures, men traditionally played women's roles in theater for centuries. NBD. Christian Conservatism is finally falling out of fashion and it seems like the drag bans are a last ditch effort to preserve that outdated, oppressive lifestyle.

drag = dudes trying to be sexy women, why would you want to involve children with that?

"Drag=dudes trying to be sexy women" tell me you know nothing about drag without telling me you know nothing about drag
