This was the most I've learned about nothing today. 1. Merlin ages backwards 2. The longer you watch a video about a Merlin, the less you learn about it 3. What I didn't like about Moffat's era was that he had too many idea, nothing that happened in an episode felt like it would ever matter because there would be like 15 new plot threads shoved in and not a single one would go anywhere.

I remember that Liverpool garden thing with the Yellow Submarine. I had incredibly vivid memories of visiting it as a kid, and seeing Jon Pertwee (in his Worzel costume) riding around on a quadbike. Thought I'd imagined it for years but it turns out that - yes - he was there and it did happen.

In the early 80s, while Tom Baker was the Doctor there was an attempt to launch an American Doctor Who series. There first choice, who did have costume fittings, was Michael Jackson... If MJ became unavailable their back up choice was Bill Cosby... So MJ or Bill Cosby on what was at the time viewed as a 'Kids Program'.

During Jon Pertwee's time as the Doctor in the episode 'Terror of the Autons', at the fictitious Beacon Hill Research Establishment, the Doctor also climbs up a radio telescope. This was also the first appearance of the Master (Roger Delgado) and Jo Grant (Katy Manning) as the Doctor's assistant. :)

Glad you mentioned the late 90's version of 'Randall & Hopkirk'. Such an underated, oddball, little masterpiece of a series, like only Vic & Bob could do justice. It really doesn't get talked about enough. The last episode of the first series is definitely my favourite - the one with the damned village. If I remember, David Tennant actually played the villain who murders Marty in the very first episode? And also another one of Tom Baker's finest hours. ...you forgot about Derek Jacobi when you were comparing the size of The Master's appendages, by the way. One episode, but it still counts. Just sayin' 😉

Biffo's knowledge of classic Doctor Who delights me to no end. And he's totally right about the Pharos Project: the Master buggers about with it because it's a replica of an important structure being used to extend the life of the Universe and was vital to a wholly convoluted plan to ransom everyone in existence. The Doctor fixes it, then falls to his doom. As for conventions: they're fine. I don't get much out of costumes and all that, but they're great for finding difficult to get hold of stuff for the collection.

Paterson Joseph was great in some things but I thought he was absolutely terrible in (the TV version of) Neverwhere. It was like he was voicing a puppet show or something. Croup and Vandemar were surprisingly good, but Carabas was basically a cartoon. Maybe it's not his fault; maybe the character was originally written like that (and then significantly improved for the novel, which I think was being written at the same time as the scripts), but that's really not the kind of performance that would suit the Doctor, IMO.

The trouble with U.K. genre tv is that they do try new stuff, but because they don’t get the same credit as Doctor Who, they get dumped after a season or 2. There have been 2 genre shows with Nick Frost, that died on their feet with audiences and critics but were really good for what they were.

Haha, Paul's little bit early on about the recent arc (The Timeless Child, the Doctor being the origin of the race) is how I feel. Regardless of the quality of the arc, the show changes Time Lord history some of the time. As long as they don't actually erase the existence of past Doctors within the show's universe, I don't give a hoot if they didn't come first now.
