It’s a noisy day and a busy one on the ranch today. I love the way you talk to all the animals on the ranch, you treat them well and not just as a commodity . Thank you for that. All the best or this winter. Way to go Bambi and Blonde cow, you make me so proud.

Mike, my oldest cow is almost 19 years old. She is our Nanny. She is in flat ground and happy with a scoop of grain, loving, and the fact she is still here. She has a Lead Steer that adores her. 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕

That is one sweet operating system. We bought a tub, squeeze chute, and panels 40 years ago and still using them. They would bring today, what we paid for them. At the time, Dad said the system was cheaper than the cost of one of us breaking a leg. Big labor saver and great safety factor for you. Sell the opens and replace with what you can afford. The way you feed, mineral and feed, they shouldn’t be many open, but drought could be a factor.

Over on the Channel Just A Few Acres Farm, Pete did a video called Tax Credits for small farms. the reason i mention this is in the video he briefly talk about a government program the paid him for disaster relief witch was a drought and i'm assuming just like you it caused his hay crop to fail because it is his only crop just like yours. anyways just thought i would share that info just incase you didnt know about this program, but you probably do. This Chanel got me watching all kinds of farm channels btw Thanks alot pal!

The cow at the 12:56 mark trying to get out of the pen reminds me of the reaction of someone being told they will be getting a colonoscopy where everyone can watch. We would have bought Bambi and Blondie and kept them as pets ( yes we are sappy)

That handling system sure works slick for doing the preg checking with just the two of you - a valuable asset. I get having to sell the 12 off, but wondering with everything going on if it would be an idea to put them in for a short time with a bull for fall calves next year...we have a few ranchers up here that have spring and fall calves as it works well for cash flow and handling....just thinking these 12 might, if they caught, work for the farm store flow and for cash flow. Just a thought. Good job!

Hi Mike and Erin. Looks like a busy day but at least no snow or blowing weather. Just wondering how many of you would it take to do that with the old corral system. have a great day.
@fbajohn31084 жыл бұрын
Quick question as I am learning. What does it cost roughly for the vet to do a preg check? Is it per hour or per cow? Also that Arrowquip is an amazing system! Glad you were able to get that for the ranch. Great investment. Thank you for continuous step by step as I watch and learn what it takes to have a ranch style life.

It occurs to me that in the same manner as your annual preg check, Could improve your annual calf yield above 90% by AI'ing all the cows at the end of April. Just bring them all through the squeeze shoot and give them all AI and then you would be sure that the deed was done and they would all calve around the same time 9.25 months later. Just a thought.

Love the equipment and about 40 years ago, preg testing was done by inserting your gloved hand/arm into the rectum, pat in the direction of the uterus to see if it will kind of bounce back, then “bounce” it a few times to estimate the age of the fetus. Bet the cows like today’s method much better.
