The recommendations of others about adding diagonal bracing and closing the open pipe ends are good modifications that you should do to increase your safety factor. Also, before you load each tote, inspect the welds for cracking, especially in cold winter weather. Regards to you and your great family.

Can you use the dump trailer to pick up its limit. Set up an unload into bags recycled on farm ramp. Just a thought. Get a grain end gate for the dump trailer More savings? Great build. Just be sure it's safe and take some experts on channel gusset advice. You could build another for composting. Good luck building back the herd from all of your endeavors. A geothermal and sun temperature controlled green house to grow both human and cattle fodder would be a better investment than hay harvesting equipment. You can rotational graze them all hay season. Both the retail and feed cost losses for years the return on investment should at least minimize the hay yield farm loss. Guy in north dakota thermal and solar greenhouse. Tropical fruit trees. Imagine that in the farm market in winter. Best return crops. Year round fresh retail and commercial customers. You've add fresh greens with canned sauces ect for entire meals farm grown. Your also going to need a cooler. Look for a walkin. Smoked meats. Chicken, pork, beef vacume sealed to microwave or sell from a warmer display. Help heat the market all winter. Smell will bring in the business. Could a refer truck also be used as an insulated smoker? Some just heat and serve meal packages would also work. Travelers can postpone trip to the market and enjoy the visit. Shake hands with the farmer that grows your food. Not the bandits making the meat profit. Could you sell the calf at finish weight to a buyer. Become a landlord, caretaker. Grow out there steer. Deliver it to the processor and to tenant along with there port, chicken green house fruits, vegetables, year round microgreens. Set up to expand it easily as human and inimical counts increase. A few of those stands with bags would make excellent hopper loaders for the fodder trays. One day a bin system and by semi load delivered. A building and fodder equipment companies sure would benefit by a sponsor of the build. Your not the only rancher tired of drought, hail, just having to buy any hay much less hundreds of thousands over 5 years. Factor in lost equipment productivity. If you grow it, you will sell it or feed it, then sell it as eggs, meat, Poultry, pigs, cattle, chickens, One bin with auger feed a tray fill station then into a grow conveyer system. You can rotate shelves for different crop varieties. The roof could act as a solar preheated for geo thermal air intaks for the building. Good place to filter the air for ease of maintenance. Easy to access in line filters. Ike furnace intake for blowers using solar hot water in slab

Mike, good job. I noticed several comments asking for gussets at the corners or angle braces on the three sides that are not open. As a retired structural engineer I whole hardheartedly agree. Please, for your safety and the safety of others add them. You would also be well advised to make an annual inspection of your welds. They are subject to cracking and could also become problematic. Yes, I said please.

My husband was gifted in figuring out how to build and fix things...looks good but I would add braces between legs about 2 feet above ground...leaving open where you drive the gator in of course...and agree, cable to wall so can't tip. Great idea, and makes it much easier to feed!
@AutoCrete4 жыл бұрын
Watching the cows run after the Gator had me literally LOL, too funny! I'm on board with the gusset crowd but would go with 1 foot long light plate steel gussets (3/16ths?). When fabricating I tend towards the brick outhouse build. Still, very good thinking.

Mike, you need to rebuilt that thing. You don't want it to be outside in the winter. Make it in two pieces. The base like you built. The top should be like a pallet, but with sides the keep the bag oriented for the pour spout. The idea is to put the bag into the second part, since that will be the highest lift. Then lift the pallet up onto your base. You should never have to lift as high as your rafters.

Hello Mike, For about $25.00 on Craigs list you can find 250 gallon bulk liquid pallets. These are made of heavy steel mesh with a plastic insert. Just take out and discard the insert and you have a metal pallet (40 X 48) with a metal mesh frame These would make this job much more simple. First, it would give you 48" of support around the entire bag. Second, it will allow you to pick up the bag from the bottom. I assume you're going to recycle the bags. Take them in the pallet to your supplier when you get refills and you will eliminate about 4 steps in the loading and unloading process. We did this at a factory where I worked that used tons of baking powder in those same bulk bags and it saved a lot of headachs. P.S The place where the straps attach to the bags is almost always the first place to tear and that can be a big mess. Have a great day!
