Mengus, could you do something crazy. Artisan Modern? Just follow the banned list and everything that is modern legal. It actually plays closer to the classic modern when it was invented 10 years ago with the tap lands. Delver and friends are fun decks. So are Affinity, Jund, Soul Sisters, Ivy Lane Denizen combo, Devoted Druid combo with Invoker, Eldrazi Tron with there Temple being legal, Classic Tron, burn, new build around Abiding Grace in it different varieties, Food combo, blink decks, Monument decks, Persist combo, and many more.

Great video. Possibly the 2 strongest decks in pauper at the hands of 2 great players that also keep teasing each other. Please keep this type of content coming, it's fantastic. I wish you had Tomi and Carl play as well, those 2 are so much fun playing together.

Calling UR Skred “one of the strongest decks in the format” is a big stretch… but I agree, the content is very enjoyable

Man Thoralf's deck seemed so powerful. I am glad we saw a game 3 with some grind to it, could see some of the card advantage of the deck too when your opponent is interacting and you are not just turbo comboing out. Could definitely feel the pressure with Mengu not finding cheap terrors but him still feeling like he just loses to the fair plan if he doesn't tap low to try to cast some proactive spells. Thanks for an enjoyable series!

Mengu's "no, stop, just die" at 14:40 made me laugh out loud, brilliant veedeo!
@OctupleThreat2 күн бұрын
Toffel is a very goofy funny guy and so it's really easy to forget that he's literally a professional at magic because we (unfortunately) see him get targeted or steamrolled in like half of the videos he's in. It's always nice to see him navigate competitive matches because it really highlights his memory, awareness of his and his opponent's deck, his outs, and general ability to adapt, set, or change the tempo of a match on a dime. Andrea is very skilled, very flashy for the camera, very genre savvy. Fastest Ponderer for 500 miles. Andrea showcases so many of the social skills that improve your competitive magic play alongside decisive and confident play that is super effective at getting opponents to play themselves into corners or "You Are Already Dead" situations. This video also showcases that maybe just maybe one of the black "Sac a thing, draw 2 cards" spells should be banned. 8 of those in a deck plus wellsprings PLUS Malevolent Rumble is an absurd amount of value and inevitability IMO

Loved the detailed analysis :)

I think toffel even could have one game 2 if he used his snuff out earlier or at least have a change.
@OctupleThreatКүн бұрын
@@LeKrutes I had a similar thought, and it may have been a punt/misplay to not do that, but seeing Toffel dig through half his deck over three or so turns to shove a redundant combo win was enough WOW factor lmao. I wonder if he'd been holding it for a more opportune moment, but I think the combat step before Toffel scooped he could have attempted to set up a blowout with the Snuff Out and a double block. Us the viewers know it wouldn't have worked because we have Tomi-vision, but it would have been backbreaking if it had.

i allways thought that Duress in pauper is brutal. Given how managable creatures usually are in the format, being able to get that much information and shut down the best playpath in the process is *chef-kiss*
@chasm95572 күн бұрын
I reason that if it's okay to have counterspells, then it's okay to have a way to target them in the hand. I think that in a vacuum it's a weaker form of interaction than countermagic since you're always vulnerable to whatever is on the top of your opponent's deck, but in exchange you gain extra information in the form of your opponent's hand.
@juliofranciscogomezstoppel18602 күн бұрын
@@chasm9557 the thing is, hand control is usually cheaper, and being proactive also means that you can do it on the curve and be efficient with your mana. Overall i think is a much stronger defensive (AND OFFENSIVE) strategy than countering. I wouldn't say counter is weak, by any means, but the sheer power of knowing in a game like magic is a huge resource imbalance.

Was there a newer printing or rule change for sadistic glee? The card from tempest reads when a creature is put into the graveyard. Tolkens don’t go to the graveyard. I saw online that the rule says when a creature dies but unless it was reprinted and the wording change the combo shouldn’t work this way. Please explain…thanks
@Eltharyon2 күн бұрын
Tokens to go the graveyard the same way they go back to hand when bounced, they simply cease the exist right after.

Glee looks like it would be a nightmare to play online. All games were won by multiple "infinite" loops which would not need to be infinite but would probably have to go to at least 20~30 online to win.

Broodscale combo is soo frustrating, in g1 in response to bolt Thoralf could have sacked a spawn and adapted with green, then cast glee and get the combo with the last spawn. Still, he pulls it off in a couple of turns by drawing a million cards

First!?!?!?!
@Yefiem2 күн бұрын
At 8:10 Thoralf says he gets two spawns when he plays a second sadistic glee and makes infinite spawns. Thats not how sadistic glee works he would still only have the 1 spawn just double the counters on the broodscale.
@stefancandan53292 күн бұрын
The glee's are seperate triggers each. First trigger resolves, the Broodscale gets a counter, makes a spawn. Then the second trigger resolves, Broodscale gets a counter, and makes another spawn.
