No planeswalkers. No sagas. No battles or enchantments that does 7 things. No treasures. No one card engine s at all that does it all. Just 60 cards and you have to build it like a machine and try to play well with the limited resources you get. This is magic to me. Kitchen tables of the 90's is my era and I am starting to build premodern decks now to rejoin the fun! It sure helps alot to watch videos like this to get sn idea of what's out there. Keep it up!

There are a handful of decks that can win on Turn 0, and a handful of decks that can win on Turn 1. Most are Black decks. Black is the best color, by design, and always will be ❤

This was fun to watch! I threw together a bunch of pauper decks because a friend wanted to get back into Magic. I thought the Faeries deck looked really good, but it just was not performing when I tried playing it. I learned a lot about how to pilot it from Andrea. For example, in the first game, I was wondering why Andrea didn't ninja out one of his ninjas during a turn when Tommy was tapped out. His next turn, having two ninjas in hand allowed him a line of play that wouldn't have worked with only one ninja.

I feel like the production has recently gotten better. It's more like Cardmarket now which I really like. It makes the game easy to follow.

2:06 The Prized Amalgam doesn't trigger here, Grief and Hollow Ones were all cast from hand. It would instead come into play after the Narcamoeba enters at 4:16 at the next end step. 5:04 This Prized Amalgam would trigger, as it sees the Narcamoeba that was dregded by the grave troll. 12:38 The 4th Prized Amalgam doesn't actually trigger since it's "Whenever a creature enters the battlefield, if it entered from your graveyard". Ichorid entered and triggered the 3 Amalgams, but the dredge for the 4th amalgam happened after Ichorid entered. 13:30 The 4th Prized Amalgam will enter tapped at the beginning of Carl's next end step (since that's the next end step) since it does see the 3 other Prized Amalgams entering at the beginning of the end step.

Hey, I'm not great at this game, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the witches have still been countered in the exchange at ~16:45? The fairies have an etb counter effect, and they have to enter to be targeted by a destroy spell, right?

No. Triggers on the stack check for their conditions both when they're put on the stack and again when they actually resolve. So the Spellstutter-trigger goes on the stack and it tries to counter a 2-drop spell since Mengu controls 2 faeries. In response, it gets killed. So when the ability that was already on the stack tries to finally resolve, it can only counter a 1-drop spell since Mengu only has a single farie left. Because Witches is a 2-drop spell, it's not a valid target for the trigger anymore, so nothing happens and Witches resolves.

I believe Tommy should have played the Cast Down on the Faerie Seer so that Mengu only controls one faerie when Spellstutter Sprite resolves (making X = 1, meaning it can't counter a 2 mana spell). So, you're right that there was a mistake there, but it's just that the wrong creature was left alive. They're both 1/1 flyers though, so it shouldn't really make a difference.

@@PetaJBread No, they did it correctly. The trigger checks the condition again as it resolves & in killing the Spellstutter, the faerie-count is also reduced to 1 so it can't counter Witches.

@@xEddyTheGr8x oh, I understand. That's not very intuitive but it does make sense. Could also be relevant if you tried to counter a 1-drop with Spellstutter as your only faerie.

@@MengusWorkshop Probably Rakdos Madness or Boros Synthesizer. They’re not often seen at tournaments around here, and mainly, I like to go a bit against the grain. Everyone is playing Sadistic Glee, and I find that boring. I’m more interested in gaining experience rather than focusing solely on winning.
