31:27 this hysteria of changing manager is ao stupid when the club needs to focus on getting players replaced in the summer. Changing manager will be stupid. Ten hag needs to stay irrespectively if the club wants to take the power away from contracts and discipline and strengthen the squad.

Crazy thought, what about doing both? No one actually has any reasons for Ten Hag staying on merit. It’s just “it’s the players fault” or “we can’t keep sacking managers”.
@rana1561
@rana1561 2 ай бұрын
@@1991jamesbond I would argue that there is merit, ten Hag fixed multiple things by forcing the team to not just sit around for counter attacks, he introduced players who can play possession based football, but it still is a long journey, the squad is half way there. The reason why people cannot see it is because the club couldn't help him bring those changes in the critical positions in the spine- all our central defenders and defensive midfielders should be quick ball playing, but they are not right now- Casemiro, Varane, Lindelof, Maguire, Evans is still the base, you cannot keep a high line and counterpress with this, they always drop and they are in a stage that they will revert to their years of habit of droppin the line. And ten Hag still managed to find this Frankenstein monster ofna mismatch squad to grind results, the squad is far from deserving this position in the league, it will require more changes, that's why sacking manager is a stupid take, we are in the process, and people want to see improvement right now, not to forget the club environment, infrastructure, methods of functioning, discipline is full of a decade of rot that he needs to handle, just look how the medical and recovery team has created problems by wrongly informing the coaching staff about player recovery, where they either delayed a lot and didn't inform, or sent players too early and they had recurring injuries- just one example of things that need to prioritised over manager

@@rana1561 we literally have no style of play (and this was before injuries). When he first came in it was possession based, but then he switched to transition play. But we’ve achieved neither. The point that many fans are missing it - does Ten Hag seem like a manager who can win us the league in a few years? Because that’s he goal, not scraping top4.

@@1991jamesbond oh stop with this style of play excuse, people are just insecure with this hipster obsession of needing to see style of play within 2 years like a magic instead of looking at the obvious shortcomings within the club infrastructure and recruitment process, and to satisfy this weak yearning, yes ten Hag has shown he has a style of play that is contemporary, he has shown that in multiple clubs he has been for multiple years with multiple squads before coming to an absolutely disjointed organisation that has an absolutely haphazard way of recruiting in Manchester United. No manager can create a front foot system with kind of random hirings United has accumulated over the years, right now ten Hag has fixed only a portion of profiles within the squad, you still have defenders and defensive midfielder who don't fit infront foot football that can manage against team that can press you continuously, and that's why people will continue to see a disjoint team till any managers gets to spend multiple years to form a consistent squad. And if you are so sure, can you please explain a front foot high line counterpressing system that can be built with Casemiro, Eriksen, Evans, Varane, lindelof and Maguire as your base that will not be slow and turned around with a single drop of shoulder and will be able to track back on time? And if you play to their strengths, the attackers will have to drop so back and give up pressing, and we'll be shitting on them to be a disgrace who can't see the ball or win it back once they lose it, because they chose to stay compact.

Funny how people are saying how Ten Hag abandoned his principles. He didn't have a choice. Are you forgetting that we got slapped 7-0 at Anfield for "sticking to principles?" We had a TERRIBLE end to last season where the squad just fizzled out. And now, the two main midfielders that were the backbone of that team (i.e. Eriksen and Casemiro) are nowhere near the levels they were last season. So sure, go ahead and "stick to principles". We'd be in a relegation battle, just like Villa was, even though they had one of the most valuable squads on paper in the Prem.

34:50 and you are not going to bring that authority to the manager if the club is sacking manager whenever players down the tools, or even start losing focus, players are too comfortable because they know they are safe, the club needs to install fear, that the manager will not be turned into a scapegoat for their lack of effort.

My thoughts exactly. How can you complain that "Ten Hag" doesn't show the authority. He only has as much authority as the people above him give him. He doesn't own the club, he can be sacked far more easily than players. The only way you can allow a manager to exercise authority is to give him the trust and power to do so. If you always show the players that the manager will be the first one to be sacked, then they are never responsible for the results.

If we're asking the question "is there anyone who can rectify United [from a managerial standpoint]", that's the clearest sign ever that the problem IS NOT the manager. If you could look at this squad and say "just bring in Potter or Southgate or Flick or ANYONE, and these guys will really start firing", then it's on the manager. There's a reason nobody is saying that. See y'all back here in two years when we're having the same conversations about the next guy, and discussing what kind of game Marcus and Scott and Harry and Vic and Luke and Aaron will be having the following weekend.

Nobody is saying ten hag is to blame for how the club declined over the past decade, but he is completely responsible for how the team have performed this season. Everything about our style of play, tactics, formation, player selection and fitness etc was decided and implemented by ten hag. Look at our stats. They're all over the place. There are so many reasons to question ten hag's methods and whether he's the right guy for next season. I think it makes sense to find a competent manager that will fit the new structure. Brown's head do not face this. Five me one manager that any can be sure can be consistent. One of the asinine points in this is the compactness of formation… it’s been a problem for a good 4,5,6 years… if we press high up from the back… the defenders get burned for pace on the counter. I also think the Ajax style (especially some makeshift bargain bin version) just doesn’t work here the games too fast and physical. Ronaldo’s point on Mount doesn’t stick either… according to the press reports, Murtough and Arnold made an executive decision to peruse him for ‘fear of facing competition for his signature’ when he became a free agent.

Players do what the manager and coaches tell them to do. Unless they mutiny and then they get dropped. Our shape and tactics are either a) players who don’t understand what the manager wants or b) they’re doing exactly what the manager wants them to do. Under all our managers since Moyes, we’ve had an identity. I honestly don’t know what it is now. These players are doing what they can. They’re not bad. They’re not world class either, but performances this year playing deep with a high front line leaving us exposed for 31 shots against on Sunday - that’s not from having bad players. They’re all professional and do a job for their countries (mostly). That performance and formation was the worst I’ve seen since… ever. And I’m 49. This is the coaching and manager I’m afraid. We need new and better players, but a coach who has better ideas and can adapt. When Carragher tells us what we can all see with our own eyes with our midfield gap/chasm, we know something’s wrong. Btw on the “the players don’t look arsed” theory: if the formation and tactics are poor and they’re not getting service, of course the likes of Rashford and Bruno will look annoyed/frustrated and throw their arms up during games. Their frustration won’t be at their teammates despite it looking like it.

A take from a fan here, If I where the football director for United, I would sit down with Ten Hag and have the rest of the board there and say. Look mate, you have 8 games, these 8 games I want you to set up to play the style of football you want, I don't want you to compromise because of players and what not, just have them play the system you want to play. After that I evaluate him over the following 3 matches and if there is no significant change in the style of play with and without the ball, it means that that's his style of play and that is a sackable offense. It doesn't matter who you get there, even the drunkard down town could probably get the same tune as an interim and would probably make more sense in the interviews. I would follow the model that Ange has instilled in Spurs where regardless of how shitty the situation gets, you don't change the style of play even if you get battered just like it happened to them against Chelsea early on in the season. If that was done then the recruitment team would have something to work with, like for example let's say that for Ten Hags desired style you detect an issue in Midfield where the 8 and the 6 are just not communicating, they know that they need to get an 8 that can perform the role of shifting between the back line and the forwards better having better awareness of the game. If the wingers don't create chances for the striker and Ten Hag explicitly has them cross the ball or put passes in and never look for the shot at goal unless it is completely imposible to get a better chance to shoot at goal than the one they have, then they know they need to go on the market for wingers that are more creative and better at crossing. If let's say the centerbacks are always caught by long balls in behind due to a lack of pace, then you need to go on the market for at least 1 quick center back to do the clean up work for loose balls whilst you might stick to the other one as he might have better chemistry with the keeper for playing out from the back and also with the standing 6. ETC. To know what you need to change you need to make clear what you want to play like, and that hasn't been done

Last year, with the players we had and how we played, we were playing more like Ole football, counter attacking with pace, & that's why Rashford hit 30 goals & players like Bruno did well. This year, Ten Hag is trying to play a high press transition style with players like Rashford, Bruno, Garnacho, McT etc who can't 'play football' when we win the ball back high up the pitch, because they don't have the space to counter and run into, and this is also why the midfield is being overrun as he plays attacking midfielders in Bruno & McT who constantly lose the ball high up the pitch. The manager is trying to play a new brand of football with players that suit last season's style & the fact that he is not addressing this, it's where the issues are. Rashford, Bruno, Garnacho, McT are poor when they have to hold onto the ball, keep possession high up the pitch and play through the opposition's block. They can't do it! So they lose the ball, then our midfield is cut through like butter, and it happens time and time again, its a mess. Most of the goals this season has come from Rashford, Garnacho, McT and Højlund breaking at pace (counter attack) That's why you see us play better or more fluid when teams attack us and hold a high-line like Liverpool or Villa, but when we face teams we have to break down, we can't do it.

Every player in the league is now faster and fitter and so you simply cannot out run opponents, you have to use your head. That is sadly lacking in many of the current crop of players. You cannot simply beat players with pace and hopeful through balls, the faster players realize this, the better.

The shots conceded not being a problem makes sense in a world of xg and stats. A lot of the shots are wild long distances attempts and off memory there’s been maybe 3 max 5 long pinballed goals conceded. The real issue is how much faff and panic that goes on in and around the 6 yard box. Them byline cut backs or corners is where we have conceded all our goals.

So much of the passing vs Brentford was comedically bad. Inaccurate, wasteful, slow and without conviction. Nothing to do with coaching, that. On the spacing. The plan is clearly to press but it is being executed poorly. Assume that the defence should be stepping up to reduce the spacing but 3 or 4 players are dropping to avoid the ball over the top and being left 1v1 where they lack the recovery pace. Neither one thing nor the other. Maybe thats the tactical mistake. If he's brave and commits to the press, pushes the defence up, will they just get continually done for pace?! You could argue you can't concede more chances than you do currently so why not give it a go ..

With regard to foden, I think pep learned a lot from bojan and the fact that he never reached his potential. Garnacho, mainoo, and rasmus are all being overplayed bc we have no one else. I’m hoping that he starts rotating amad and garnacho bc I’m starting to see a lot of people criticizing garnacho and we’re all forgetting that he’s 19.

20:30 - Really good point. The best managers do find a way. SAF had some insane 11s in paper that shouldn't have in theory performed as well as they did. Ten Hag is on very thin ice as he seems to have all the variety you may want but he's not getting a feel for which tactics work best during games.

I think Ronnie is making some really good points here, I understand Ten Hag has had a rough time with injuries but some of the football is shocking. I dont think its necessarily time for him to go, but the powers above need some good explanations for why its happening like this and what (if anything) hes going to do to change it next season. If they dont think that answer is good enough then I think they have a good enough reason to move on.

Well, we can blame almost everything and everyone: the owners for not giving a toss about the football side of the things, poor board, recruitment and scounting, reactionary fans who want quick results and massive changes at the same time, the players who show no heart, hunger or discipline. Finally, the coach who completely abandoned his style of play and kept picking the same underperforming players over and over again. The truth is - only one of the mentioned parties can be easily replaced. At this moment I'm not sure about Ten Hag's future and whether he's the right man to bring United back to the top. But if he's going after the season, then a large portion of the squad has to go as well - there's just no other way. Sell/replace all the deadwood, bring in some academy players if we have to. I personally can stomach a few years of finishing 8th or lower if it will be enough to lay a solid foundation and build a team with clear identity and structure. Enough of this semi-transitional, counter attacking nonsense. It's getting us nowhere near the top sides.

Fernandes is a big problem. Bad captain and probably very divisive behind the scenes. Maguire and Rashford want ten hag out which can’t be good either. Ten hag does lack big game awareness, hasn’t taught his team how to defend leads, it’s just play play play and they’re a mess in those situations. Against free flowing teams it works, against more technical teams Man U are a mess. I’m surprised they aren’t further down the table, Brentford, Fulham, wolves, villa, West Ham… all look more mature and better than Man U. IMO ten hag needs to go, Fernandes needs to go, Rashford needs to go.

These players are over rated. They can't play his style because half the team can't keep the ball. Burno just is Mr Hollywood's, Rashford can't keep it,. McTomminay is a ghost so he doesn't even come into it. Garnaco ( he has quality )is learning and sometimes can't keep it. Holjludn gets no service (Ivan Toney has had more shots on goal than him - which is a joke). The defence is slow, so can't push up to cover the midfield gap and most of these players are not his. The players are as much the problem, and I would say even more. They need to go first

10:30 United fans are deluded, Brighton is not a team with less resources than Man United. Yes our club had money, but it was never invested in behind the scenes resources, all that money was wasted in making a mismatched squad over the years by a recruitment department that is utterly stupid, and when ten Hag tried to bring in profiles he needed, they wasted money by delaying or buying short term solutions, a recruitment department that couldn't even suggest the profiles ten Hag demanded, they had no clue about a young player that can be a young affordable scouted version of Frenkie or Casemiro or multiple options that they could buy instead of Antony to mention a few examples. He is been forced to rely on players he knew who would be available instead of having a recruitment department that can provide alternative to improve the negotiation power with options, and recruitment is just one aspect, look at the medical department how pathetic they've been, misinformed ten Hag about the left back fitness. United wasted money for a decade and didn't invest a penny in resources and infrastructure.

I live Ronaldo, if there was a fan channel most improved award he would get it he's grown leaps and bounds. With that being said, how can you complain about how good the strikers are and then not make the connection that our centerbacks are shit or we don't have enough healthy defenders 90% of the time. Should Erick Ten Hag switch to a 4-4-2 and park the bus? We'll get results but then fans will complain about that. Yes the results aren't good enough but you can't change what you do every week. At some point you need to build a system and stick with it. The problem is clearly the recruitment and if Ten Hag gets sacked (with the highest win percentage of any permanent manager in United HISTORY) then its because of the terrible recruitment which has been a problem the last 10 years.

Finally! Someone talking about Rashford! Are we not allowed to criticize him?! Says who? Because...?! He plays like he doesn't want to be here. Move him on. Time for him to rebuild his career somewhere else. PSG or wherever. Why isn't ETH not play him? Bench him until end of the season. Done. His attitude sucks. I get that he does a lot for the community outside of football but that doesn't mean he can't put a shift in. Play with some passion. Pass to the striker. His skin color the least interesting thing about him. Nobody cares. If the gaffer got rid of Sancho for bad behavior, he can sit Rashford and not play him anymore. He can't be relied on for once in every few months! The Liverpool game was the best moment of the season but that's it. And I'm done defending the coach. Just done. Injuries aside, I doubt Ineos want him for their project. But if they bring Southgate, I'm out. I'll say it every time, massive overhaul of the roster. Sell and get rid of at least 8 players. Bruno isn't safe either. If the right heft offer comes, sell him.

So the performances have been the same for years: inconsistent, lazy, heartless. Only thing that has changed is the manager, but we keep rewarding the same players with massive contracts? Lads we’ve got players from LVG, Jose, Ole era in the squad, but we want them to play like Erik wants. How about instead of pretending to criticize the players, you actually call them out? “Elite managers make do with what they’ve got” Klopp didn’t have success until he got Salah, VVD, Allison in, pep needed like 6 new players each window. Swear you lot are as clueless as Souness sometimes smh
