@@NadeemShekh-uy9znthat movie was such a surprisingly great film, 2014-2016/17 had some really great superhero films and it was when the X-Men franchise was actually doing quite well with Logan in ‘17. I mean X-Men days of future past was better than the MCU team-up.

more importantly than the X-connection imo is what Kwan did with surreal imagery that feels comic booky but executed in a way that only cinema can achieve. No spoilers obv if people haven't seen it, but it was great.

I once wrote this pitch for an X-Men reboot where it was directed by Brad Bird and featured Jubilee & Kitty Pryde as co-leads. The main team consisted of characters who never got the attention they deserved in the original X-Men films like Nightcrawler, Gambit, Psylocke, Storm, Warpath, and Havok, they were all mentored by the original five X-Men as a way of passing the torch between the old and new movies, and the main villain was to be Mister Sinister.

A best friend and I did our own, where after the Cold War, America is looking for a new superweapon to beat Russia in the arms race - after super soldiers failed to stop HYDRA from infiltrating S.H.I.E.L.D. A rogue scientist and his group of researchers discover the advent of mutants and decide to use them to siphon their powers to create new tech and weapons. Stryker and Cameron Hodge now develop resources to get rid of political and business competitors who don't want this war to happen and they try to have public figures in their way assassinated. The scientist suggests to use a mutant they captured as their fall guy. The OG X-Men are informed by Fury to Xavier about the threat and someone framed them with trying to assassinate those same high officials in the public eye. Now they must clear their name or risk being outed as mutants to find out how this happened.

"and because this movie is such a high priority, I just can't see Disney not going with proven talent." You would think so, but remember that they gave Spider-Man, they're most popular character, to Jon Watts. Loved the video! I always appreciate how much energy and research you put into these suggestions. Personally, I would love to see Vaughn return to the X-Men, as I think First Class came the closest to portraying the X-Men as a team and not just a background for a main character.

Something the new X-Men movies need to get across is that Storm isn't just a powerful mutant, but that she's badass with or without her powers. One of my favourite Storm moments is from Uncanny X-Men 142 when she talks Wolverine down during a fight: Wolverine: "I wouldn't take that from Cyclops!" Storm: "You *will* take it from me" That's the kind of edge that the MCU Storm should have on screen. Also, we need Kitty in the MCU, lots of Kitty.

I'll be honest if you asked me what 2 X-men Marvel should build the movies around, I'd say Kurt Wagner and Kitty Pryde First movie: Cyclops and Storm have their first mission with Kurt and Kitty. keep Kurt older/experienced, make Cyclops and Storm the main characters, but make Kurt and Kitty the heart (establish the family) Movie 2: Uncle Wolverine is back in town, and the kids sneak along. Keep Scott and Storm involved as going after the kids/eventual backup but spice up the team A plot Wolverine story with back door set up for spin-off movies/shows/specials B plot Cyclops and Storm try to wrestle back their main character status (basically stablish Wolverine as a sixth ranger) Movie Wolverine claws: Apocalypse. Cyclops and/or Storm become head of the School and/or public Figures of similar caliber, meanwhile Kurt and Kitty are promoted to leaders of their own team. And Wolverine is there (we set the franchise for a split direction Cyclops and Storm stay in the U.S. with vs. the Government, vs. the hellfire club, vs. Reverend William Stryker movies, your comicbook grounded style X-Stories while Nightcrawler and Shadowcat go globle trotting or to space or dimension hopping, your wacky fun time X-storyies)+(use Wolverine as a posterboy for your Loner/Darker/Horror X-storyies) Btws: my pre watching this video pitch didn't include the split focus the new "main characters" would have been Kitty And Kurt

I wholly respect Nando’s opinion because he’s clearly a fan and is super knowledgeable about the comics. However, I have never understood the hatred people have for X-Men: Apocalypse. That was personally one of my favorite theater experiences I’ve ever had and I thought it was super fun and utilized my experience as a fan of the X-Men series. Granted, there are flaws I understand (there’s a lot going on, the young characters don’t get as much time as they deserve, Apocalypse isn’t huge, etc) but those don’t detract from it for me personally.

I'm not gonna pretend it was the worst superhero movie ever. It certainly wasn't. However, I feel like it just did not mesh with how I see the X-Men and especially Apocalypse. In my mind, Apocalypse should be a Thanos level character, both in physical size and in narrative weight. I think he was miscast and poorly interpreted. That said, if a person either was unfamiliar with comics Apocalypse or was less precious about it, like my dad is, I could totally see someone find enjoyment where I struggle. I certainly didn't hate this movie, and I'm glad people were able to enjoy it more than I was

Each Marvel franchise has its own genre. Iron Man is corporate SF, Black Panther is techno-fantasy, Thor is action comedy. So the director will depend on the genre. The Wachowskis = mutant/identity punk (if the X-Men have been hiding in plain sight thus far). Katsuhiro Otomo = worldbuilding spectacle (if the X-Men have been hanging out on Asteroid M or Krakoa thus far). David Sandburg = teen drama (if we want to go all Hogwarts)

Maybe it's just cause i loved the movie and it's recent, but I think Steven Caple Jr. of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts could do it. That movie is all about uniting as one to fight forces that threaten us all, and has a very fun outsider coming into a bigger team dynamic that change both the outsider and the team with Noah and the Autobots. Steven seems to want to do large ensembles as evidenced by the movie's ending so I think he's a valid option too

Daley & Goldstein would be a very MCU choice since their style of writing and directing is very much akin to the best MCU movies outside of Infinity War/Endgame, but I think the X-Men needs to be a big change for the MCU. The MCU needs to do something new and I think they could do that by making the X-Men a top-tier action-adventure franchise with Christopher McQuarrie. The dude took an old franchise in Mission Impossible that would have died were it not for Tom Cruise hyping it and turned into one of, if not THE best action-adventure franchises of all time. They sprinkle in humor in Mission Impossible movies, but the MCU tries to break every bit of tension with humor, like Chandler Bing became a movie franchise.

I really like the pitches for Daley/Goldstein and DaCosta. Lots of great potential for both. I also agree with your assessment of Vaughan. First Class was my favorite of the main Fox X-Men movies, but he probably wouldn't want to come back to Marvel right now. Plus, I would rather get someone new for X-Men, and I think he would be a great pick for the Authority movie.

I think you should consider highlighting one more director: Dan Trachtenberg. He's fresh enough that he'd hopefully be willing to work with the big machine that Marvel is but also has proven himself enough in smaller-scale projects like 10 Cloverfield Lane and Prey. He would do a spectacular job! Just watched this video hoping his name would be next, and I think you may have overlooked a perfect candidate here

I was excited to see Nia DaCosta directing and co-writing The Marvels. Then I went on to read about the production details of the film, and apparently, The Marvels has gone under heavy re-shoot and "massive overhaul". So, I fear that Marvel Studio has ruined both DaCosta's original creative work and the movie itself. So, if the movie turns out disappointing, I wouldn't blame DaCosta, the blood will be on the studio's hands.

Or maybe she's not a great director and they're salvaging it as best they can? We'll never know. Normally I'd be like, studio interference? = bad. But it's the MCU... so I feel like maybe sometimes it's for the best? Maybe? Hard to know for sure.

DeCosta makes a lot of sense based on the strengths and arguments you made. Hopefully she gets it. If Matthew Vaughn directs The Authority movie, that sounds great. In fact, I would love to see all the directors you mentioned like Jordan Peele, Matthew Vaughn, Edgar Wright, and Daley/Goldstein work on a DCU project. For example, I would love to see Daley/Goldstein take on a Teen Titans film and The Duffer Bros helm a Justice League Dark if they leave Netflix.

Hey Nando, big fan! I don't quite understand your point at 7:42 where you say "Maybe it's easier than you'd expect" than talk about how the director of Nomadland directed amazing super speed, I think if anything it shows how a skills director is able to present and convey these powers in great and creative ways. Just seemed like the way you put it belittled the skill that goes behind making these types of things well and artistically. But I could have misunderstood, just wanted to share this thought. Thanks for your great work!

If it was me, & we are still expecting the MCU to be around long term I'd do it this way. Initially a Disney plus show focused on the School and young versions of the original team, possibly set pre blip. The X-men never got involved with Thanos because they were still untrained Kids. Characters like Storm & Wolverine would debut in other movies. It would be a joy to see Logan start out in Alpha Flight (or maybe we just get to keep Hughe). The original team gets Krakoa'd & post credit scene's are Xavier wandering around like in 1st class picking up Nightcrawler, Collossus and the like. Finaly Boom! the big Avengers level team up event.

Watching this AFTER "The Marvels", I think DaCosta would be great! I mean, I really didn't understand why so many people hated "The Marvels"... I mean, the fight scenes and character interactions were great... The villain was a little lacking, but if she's an X-Men fan, she'd have no shortage of dynamic and interesting villains to choose from. And I honestly think the comedy was spot on for what X-Men should be like... Maybe, based on reviews, they could have DaCosta working with someone else as a duo?

I neither have a big interest in comic books or directors, but when i think about X-men i think about prosecution, injustice and somewhat silly fun and I dont know why but the first name that came into my mind when thinking about that was Matrix...Lana Wachowski or both. Sense 8 season one was really fun and showed that she/they can do thrilling political stories without them getting to exhausting and serious. We know that they can do action and interesting way of showing powers and they have some history when it comes to working with marvel so I just gonna asume that they have some fimiliarity with the genre/source material.

Kingman/X-Men First Class director, Matthew Vaughn was also almost hired to direct the very 1st X-Men movie😊 Seeing how amazing X-Men First Class was. Had he directed X-Men 1. The X-Men and Magneto's team of the Brotherhood would've worn their comicbook looking outfits. Don't believe me. Vaughn gave the X-Men their comicbook suits in his movie staring James McAvoy and Michael Fasabender😊

Obviously aware of the IDW reboot a while back, and the plans for the Hasbro-verse with M.A.S.K sharing a movie universe with other IPs such as G.I Joe & Transformers but the franchise has so much potential for nostalgic nerds as well as the young generations of today and tomorrow

If I could throw another name into the mix, I feel like Tony Gilroy would also be a solid candidate. He already has experience working within a massive franchise and balancing out an ensemble cast in "Andor"; plus how well he handled the politics in Andor can easily carry over into X-Men.

Glad you mentioned night of the sentinels because “tomorrow people” which is the first X-men volume of the ultimate universe has a similar premise and I’ve said for years that it would be a cool premise for the first mcu mutant film (except wolverine being a magneto spy) Also the duo of Steve Blackman & Jeremy Slater could be very solid they did umbrella academy Blackman worked on legion and Fargo and even though Slater has the big L of Fant4stic under his belt he did work on moon knight which was mostly well received
