I think Dr Doom has the opportunity to be the “next Loki” of the MCU. I mean that by him being a character who’s menace and story is built parallel towards the hero’s story and built up to be the big bad the Avengers have to go up against, and then becomes sort of an anti-hero. Much like Loki was a character that acted as Thors antagonist, fought the Avengers, and then became the star of his own series. Doom has always been complex where his villainy is rooted in much higher purposes. I think it definitely should be built up to like Loki was.

I feel the ethnicity of Doom is just as important as Ben's. His mother's lineage and Roma identity is very relevant to his sorcerer side, which is something I'd lean into a lot considering the MCU's already established lore and to differentiate him from the other screen adaptations.
@_mikeacuna_2 жыл бұрын
I agree, though I think in this case, some lore could be ignored in favor of the right actor (for any role)
@Immortal_Inkwell2 жыл бұрын
I agree that it was really scummy to mention Ben's religion SO heavily and then not even mention Victor's actual ethnicity at all. I know it's hard to find Romani actors, especially men, with a presence but the effort of at least talking about it isn't much to ask for. We were already stiffed really bad with Wanda, we shouldn't have to miss out on Doom.
@pennyforyourthots2 жыл бұрын
This is true, but at the same time I kind of feel weird about using a real people group. The idea of his sorcerer side being related to his Roma identity, while not necessarily intended to be a harmful stereotype as it's played pretty straight, it also feels very connected to some of the more harmful stereotypes. His ethnicity definitely should be important to his character, and hiring a Roma actor is a great way to call back to that, but a live-action adaptation is also a great way to perhaps distance the character from the more harmful stereotypes associated with the whole "Magic Roma" connection. It's going to be difficult to do well, especially since Disney, and by extension Marvel, only really do surface-level callbacks to be more socially conscious aspects of Marvel Comics.
@Immortal_Inkwell2 жыл бұрын
@@pennyforyourthots I'm Romani and I don't think Doom having magic is racist. Mainly because it's never played in a stereotypical way and he's also a scientist who is cunningly smart and brilliant in other ways. Doom is a very nuanced character and the fact his mother was a mage shouldn't be discouragement from his Roma identity. I'd rather have Doom and have his Romani witch mother as it is in the comics, where it was done very tastefully if memory serves well, than have him be changed to being white because people were offended on my behalf.

The couples we have seen haven't had that chemestry in any of the movies so far. if the most important trait of the first family of superheros is a familiy, why not cast them who have a family already?. Also even when his most iconic role is from a sitcom, the office does have a lot of drama, where Kraskiski performance demonstrates he is up to the challenge. In some episodes we see Jim as boss being arrogant, same traits of being a little dorky can use for the role too.
