[Tidbits & Clarifications] - It's never flat out said, but yes the Zanpaktou are a reflection of ones soul, we saw this with Ichigo's Bankai training. The spirit of Zangetsu told us that the blades represent different parts of Ichigo. So the powers and abilities found in a Zanpaktou are reflective of who they are. - This episode again shows the separation Between Ichigo and Captains, his Bankai is strong and has potential but he couldn't even keep it up long without it beginning to crush his own body (which is why he slows down) and Without White coming to the Rescue Ichigo would have 100% Died. - A subtle thing that's been happening in this arc is that Ichigo is beginning to fight not only to protect people but also for his love of battle he says here and when he almost died against Kenpachi "I want to Win", and in this case it seems that "White Masked" Being responded to that emotion he even says "You'll Win if you leave it to me"

It'll be interesting to see what Bankai do to their wielders. They're immensely powerful and we are beginning to see why it takes a decade to really develop Bankai. So much power piled onto one body is dangerous. Even Byakuya sees how crazy it is to have a Bankai like Ichigo's.

I feel like Byakuya could have kept going. The fact that he left with a flash step while Ichigo could barely stand, makes it seem more like he decided to accept Ichigo's determination. There is a little more insight about why he did what he did in this arc.

They do go a lot more into depth later on about zanpakuto and it gets pretty philosophical, but it's going to take a long time to get there. I guess a non-spoiler answer to the question about all sets of powers in this show is that they're essentially determined by the person who has them.

Yess crushed by his own spiritual pressure. He might have shortcut his way to bankai, but like byakuya said to renji its not "combatworthy" In renji´s case he needs to train to handle the size of it, in ichigo´s case to handle the strain on his body.

Yeah. They basically have to train to "regulate" the power of it. For Renji, since his is such a massive expansion, at least until [SPOILERS], he had to train to regulate the flow perfectly, as demonstrated when Byakuya disrupted that flow and stunned it.

One of the examples of crazy foreshadowing actually comes from a filler. A Zanpakuto spirit invades Ichigo's inner world and meets Mr. No Name. The Spirit asks him what he is and he doesn't respond. I feel like a writer of random filler would have had him state what we all believed him to be. But if his true nature was known, at least to Kubo, maybe that was done to avoid contradicting established canon later on.

And yeah, Kubo actually looked over the episode scripts after a certain point, even for the filler, as to not contradict actual canon. At least not much. And he did have a say in that, but didn't reveal it even to the writer of that episode. In a Q/A, he said that all he said to the writer was, "I can't tell you why, but I can't let you write anything specific about him."

I believe it was already stated, the Zanpakuto is based on your own unique abilities. The sword basically reflects your power and that's how its a part of you. So the swords are as unique as the people are.

It's also not clear where the idea that Ichigo isn't a killer came from. Of course he'd rather not kill if possible. But fighting with captains is not the case at all, so no, he doesn't hold back from killing. When the opponent is serious, he fights as hard as he can. The fact that opponents don't die is more the author's fancy. And of course it's worth remembering that shinigami are many times tougher than ordinary people.

Ichigo's situation is more complicated, but Soul Reapers imprint their own power and soul onto their Zanpakto. You can think of the swords they're given in the academy as being blank and the more they attune with them the more it becomes theirs. It's a power system where the more you understand your own soul the stronger you get.

Zanpakutos abilities are unique for everyone. Zanpakutos act like hard asses on the soul reaper because they want to form a connection with their soul reaper master. They get very very sad whenever they don’t get used/being Neglected

Also the reason Ichigo does not want White to fight Byakuya has nothing to do with worry White will kill Byakuya. This is a battle of both his soul and Byakuya’s soul clash with each other and see who’s determination win out. If Ichigo leave the battle to White then the whole meaning of this battle will be lost

I don’t know why you are so fixed on the idea of Ichigo is afraid of kill his opponent, that is not the case, when Ichigo fight his battle he fight with his all, he has no room to worry about killing his opponent, if they dead then it can’t be helped, Ichigo will accept that result. What Ichigo does is he won’t deliver the final blow when his opponent is already down and unable to keep fighting. Ichigo can kill his opponent while trading blow but he won’t do the follow up attack while the battle result is already clear
