I recently found an old manual in my closet for Metroid II: Samus Returns on original Game Boy and I was flipping through it. They had a ton of really well done illustrations of Samus and the Metroids along with a bunch of story/lore information as well as item/enemy descriptions with their own illustrations and it was really awesome even though it was fairly ordinary for games of that time. The push towards digital where you physically recieve nothing for your money and apparently don't even own the game (I guess you're only supposed to own the RIGHT to play the game after agreeing to some outrageously long "terms and conditions" that nobody reads) is never a good thing and oftentimes pushes me to pirate games that I'm unsure about buying since there's virtually no difference anymore.
@RETR0_P0CKETАй бұрын
There is so much competition right now I don’t think the price really matters for a lot of these games. You literally couldn’t get me to download them for free. I have seen that JEDI Fallen Order game on sale on Steam for $5 so many times but it requires an EA login so I’m not buying it. We all have massive libraries of games and access to thousands of great retro games for free. I think the market is headed towards a major correction. A lot more studios are going to close and we are going to see more failures like Concord.

$8 for an old arcade game- it /is/ nuts. Thank you for saying it. That game would likely be overpriced at $5. Most old arcade games would sit comfortably in the 2-3 dollar mark, chances are I'd play through them a time or two for nostalgia or novelty and that'd be it. The pricing on games is out of this world, and it makes me not want to buy any games unless I either know I'm going to adore it, as I did with the recent new Zelda title, or unless I can get it on a crazy 60% off or better sale. It just doesn't make sense to buy a fully priced $45 or $60 game that neither values my money or my time with the content it has to offer. I don't expect every game to be a Mona Lisa, but if I'm getting a small game, it should be appropriately priced. I'm happy to spend $70 on a game like Tears of the Kingdom because it has buckets of content and time poured into it, but I would never spend $60 on a sports game that's just a rebrand of the last year's basically identical version.
@TheProphegyАй бұрын
I can’t believe the new Silent Hill 2 is $70. Seems like a $60 game max. The original can be beat in 12 hours. $70 for something most people will beat in 12 hours and move on is crazy.

@@coopstain1728 Yeah I recently picked up the PC version of Days Gone for 9 bucks... I had played it on PS4 back when it released and sort of forgot about the game, but it was on sale digitally through GameStop and a friend had given me a leftover gift card with right around 10 bucks left on it so I decided to grab it and play it again on PC. It's not the greatest game ever made, but it's definitely a "triple A" title that sold for 60$ on release and it's absolutely worth 9 bucks lol. I almost never pay full price for any video game unless it's something that I know I'm going to enjoy like a FromSoftware action/RPG like Elden Ring or something like a Red Dead Redemption or Grand Theft Auto sequel. I think the last game I bought on release for full price was Resident Evil 4 Remake and I have no regrets about that. The vast majority of games I play I pick up on deep sales because it's just too expensive for me to spend 60-70$.
@TheLastLineLiveАй бұрын
It is annoying how games are priced but I have to assume it is working out for them. If a game goes on sale quickly then they obviously have learned the demand is not there. And if it rarely drops, it’s either sustained demand like Nintendo titles often have, or it is such a niche title that they know their audience will buy it regardless. Epic Mickey and the DKC Returns HD are actually more expensive than the original release, they were only $50 at launch. Lollipop chainsaw is cuz of the ridiculous price the 360 and ps3 game were going for, so they could totally milk that. I got on the steam wishlist, I see that getting a 75% off within a year.

I like to call that Game Pass pricing. A bigger issue that I find with pricing is new digital games being more expensive than new physical games. Square Enix is the worst culprit for this. FF7 Rebirth was $93.49 (CND) digital where buying it physical in the store was $89.99... explain that to me. The more functional and harder to produce less profit version of the game costs less? make it make sense.

It's a different business model. For physical games, the publisher sells to the store and then the store decides how much to charge consumers. For digital games, the publisher decides how much to charge consumers, and then the digital storefront takes a percentage (usually 30%).

Lol I just commented the same exact thing on your Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster video... Like yeah I'm a huge fan of Dead Rising 1 and 2 and I'd love to pick up the "deluxe remaster," but I have the PC ports of both original games and have revisited them numerous times over the years... So I'm not going to pay 50$ for a fresh coat of paint on a game I already own. I'll wait until it's like 10 or 20 bucks. If you've never played the game, then yeah I guess I could see 50$ maybe feeling worth it because it's a pretty damn good game, but to anyone who's played it before it doesn't seem like you're getting anything new other than fancier RE Engine graphics, some costumes, and a small handful of quality of life features (you can now move while aiming.) That Lolipop Chainsaw game was never anything all that special and I recall it being a really short game, it should be like 15-20$ for that remaster, not 45$.
@grizzlywhiskerАй бұрын
Another thing I just want to say when I see stuff like this is that I picked up Hollow Knight on sale for 15$ the same year it released in 2017. That game could have easily been sold for 50 or 60 bucks in my opinion because it truly is one of the best "metroidvania" style 2D games out there, but they were always super generous about putting it on sale even though I think the game was maybe 29.99$ when it came out... Then they added a bunch of free content to it in the years after it got popular and reduced the price to being 15$ all the time.
