In the comics Bark and Bean aren't depicted as bad people either- they often work with Knack, who also just so happens to often work with Eggman: putting them into the role of antagonist, but putside of circumstance they rarely.are depicted as genuinely bad persons. In fact after the genesis wave (effectively resetting the comics) the two are next seen in Blaze's dimension, in which, just from knowing it'd be the right thing to do they even help Blaze in reclaiming her home. Also fun fact: while depicted.as a woodpecker in all his game appearances, Bean remains a Duck in the comics.

You probably knew this but Fang, Bean, and Bark were planned to be a team in Sonic Heroes, going by Team Hooligan. Their hypothesised plot for stopping robotnik was likely that they simply wanted to steal from him and cause mayhem in his world conquering schemes. They were removed for several reasons, a few being that 1. It is unclear if bean could actually fly, and he was supposed to be the designated flight character 2. Nobody really knew who they were, SEGA still wanted a team of obscure characters though and that's how team Chaotix was eventually worked in to the game 3. Having fang go against robotnik was a little weird because fang was only described as a villain in his few appearances and didn't have enough development in his character to truly have a reason to be evil but against robotnik 4. Having the team mingle with the other characters during team battles as well as the final story would be hard to do because only sonic knew who only one of them were. There were probably other reasons but I'm honestly sad to see them not make it, playing as them would have been super fun and I quite like fang and bean, bark is also kinda cool but he has basically no character.
