Who Throws ROCKS At Linus' Tent? || Stardew Valley 1.6 Lore and Theory

It may be a little late to mention, but there is a request from Sebastian in the board on Pierre's store where he asks for an item saying that he feels like throwing something at the mountain to get rid of his frustration, and since he stays out until very late and we have no way of knowing what happens the rest of the night and at dawn, it is possible that at some point he has thrown the object and it ended up falling into Linus' tent. So probably the person responsible for the "attacks" is Sebastian but he doesn't even know what's going on, he just throws things out of frustration without even imagining that they fall into Linus's tent.

What if it's the witch!? Since you can see her flying not only over your farm but over the mountains (before you are asked to get the tailsman for the wizard). The reason I say her is because the wizard mentions she purposely causes havoc.

This doesnt make much sense. Yes, she's malicious, but I doubt she'd resort to rocks. If she wanted to torment linus, he could just make his tent disappear entirely, or something

I do think it was probably sebastian only because he was throwing green beans at the mountain and later he asks the player if they've ever done something they regret. So i think he feels bad about it.

I never concidered the dwarf. I always felt it was some random people and not anyone from Pelican Town. Like some teenagers from Grampleton or Zuzu city camping in the mountains.

I like your theory! It seems like something the dwarf would do! Although I kinda thought it was Sebastian, but he wasn’t doing it intentionally. He asks for green beans to throw at the side of the mountain, so I think it’s just Sebastian’s angsty green beans hitting Linus’s tent. Sebastian probably doesn’t even realize!

Wait…hear me out: Let’s assume that before throwing veggies at the side of the cliff, Sebastian used to throw rocks. Let’s assume he accidentally hit Linus’ tent once or twice and felt horrible about it…instead of stopping the practice, what if he switched to something more harmless, like a green bean or a potato? It’s a bit of a crack theory, but idk

There's a theory that Linus is Pam's ex and Penny's father, it was mentioned that Penny's dad left because he was feeling "stuck". Perhaps Pam gets drunk late at night and throw rocks at his tent? or Penny?

Penny's father is completely abscent while Linus is in reach. Wouldn't make sense that the thought of her father upsets her if they still had to do with each other.

Wizard, Linus, Farmer’s Grandpa, and Marlon (and Gil) were once Adventure pals. Linus became homeless as a choice, because the outside reminds him of the adventures he had. So yes it could be the dwarves as Krobus’s people and Dwarves were once at war about who gets to live in this area, etc etc. (I might miss some points but I remember during Wizard’s heart cut-scene for that). Dwarves used to dislike humans for mining the underground which are their homes.

Interesting, but if you tell Linus not to rummage through trash cans because it's illegal and private property. Linus says that he doesn't believe in 'Private Property'. I feel like the Dwarf and Linus would get along, though it's understandable that the Dwarf would have those worries.

As the player says "hey don't do that it's private property" and linus says "literally don't care. it's free food and it's going to waste otherwise" also that cool distinction between private and personal doesn't matter to the dwarf either. dudes gonna steal your lawn flamingo regardless.

I think I prefer your theory more than mine, but I could also see it as sebastian throwing rocks without _realising_ that linus is _right_ up there? he likes to throw stuff like beans at the mountains near the railroad so I could see him doing that while intoxicated without sort of realising.

i thought based on your thumbnail it was gonna be pierre and my brain went "yes, this checks out" immediately without second thought. guy has a tendency to put his nose where it doesnt belong, has plans of becoming a mayor in the future(i forget if this is a headcanon or if its something he implies in luau year 2 dialogue) and would want "trash" cleaned out of town. though it would also be hilarious if it was pierre. like a grown ass man walking up to the mountains just to throw some rocks at a tent in the middle of the night after a whole day's worth of working. love how i can blame everything bad happening in pelican town on freaking pierre🤭

Ooh! I never thought about your "boring" theory, but that makes a lot of sense! My thought was it was mischievous teenagers that came by train that made a stop at the train station. Didn't think of the time of night or how they would even know Linus was there, unless they stumbled across his tent while exploring. I like how your videos makes me think of things I normally take for granted! ^_^

1:20 I'd doubt it, he's been living in that tent for who knows how long. I feel like he'd be able to tell the difference between a rock falling off the cliff, and one being thrown. If I were to guess, the rocks were forcefully impacting the side of the tent in a way that wouldn't be possible if the rock had simply fallen.

expansion on your theory: Linus *is* a spy sent by the shadow people! we know that linus and the wizard are close, and we know that krobus and the wizard are at least acquaintances. not to mention the popular theory that the hat mouse's place used to belong to linus, placing him near the sewer. all this to say Linus and Krobus almost certainly know each other, and given what we know about both of them they would likely get along great. this would also explain what linus is doing in the mines in the first place, because while there are forageables in the mines, that's a lot of effort for some cave carrots. it would make more sense that he's in there *looking* for the dwarf

I always thought it was Sebastian for a lot of the reasons said, and because of his bulletin board quest (the one where he asks you to get him peppers to throw at the mountain), but I like the idea that it’s the dwarf more.

You didn't mention or clear the near by adventures guild, but I don't think of them to be likely culprits. Morris is also relatively near by and after a long night of counting his profits, I can see him choosing to unwind by throwing rocks at the less fortunate.

Awesome video, I love these theories so much. The dwarf definitely makes sense. The only other person I would think it could be is alex, just because of his trek to the sauna every so often. But then again hes never really up late. He also may be arrogant, but I dont think he would do that either.

I love your theory, I can't imagine anyone in Pelican Town harming Linus.... except Lewis(if I really need to choose someone), it's a bit of a stretch but something about a wild man living in a tent may bother him since he cares about his reputation/the town reputation so much

Personally my first thought was Abigail. She’s show to be pretty rebellious by Stardew Valley standards and can sometimes show that rebelliousness in some less-than-kind ways given her somewhat strained relationship with her parents, plus, being raised by someone with an ego like Pierre’s I could see her looking down on Linus, thinking that his lack of wealth or material possessions somehow makes him lesser. Plus we know she travels up to the mountains from time to time since she can be found player her flute up by the lake on occasion, and given her constant desire for adventure, I could easily see her making the hike late in the evening Now just for clarity’s sake I don’t think she’s malicious or comes up there just to harass Linus, more likely she just wanders up the mountain every now and again, and the days she might be the one throwing rocks could just be days she’s in a particularly bad mood and trying to blow off steam, albeit in a less-than-healthy way.

While boring, the "no one is throwing rocks, they are just falling on Linus' tent" theory makes a lot of sense. We know the mountainside is a bit unstable after Joja had their mining operation that caused not only one, but two rockslides; one blocking the path to the mines and the Adventurers' Guild building, and one blocking the way to the spa and the train tracks.

Something I realized after playing through part of the intro for The War Within. It actually turns out that the nerubians invading Dalaran and Dalaran being destroyed. Is actually the players fault. One of the quests you pick up before the city is teleported is a quest where Drenden tells you that he's worried about the wards and asks you to strengthen them using a wand he gives you.Drenden turns out to be Xalatath in disguise. Once you look at this information you realize that you were not strengthening the wards,you were weakening them. This twist made me feel both excited and depressed. Excited because a twist like this hasn't really been put into the game before now and depressed because you realize that all the people who end up dying because of the weakened wards is all your fault.......

I don't know how long he's lived there, but if it's been more than a month, he probably knows the difference between rocks falling and being thrown. If they were falling down the mountain, he'd have heard them hitting and bouncing off things before hitting the tent.

Sebby is definitely enough of an asshole to do this. He has pranked the Luau potluck before, and seems to enjoy pulling pranks. He would have little to no reason to tell the farmer he does this, so he probably never would, and after you've befriended him, I doubt it's something he'd disclose openly. He's not really a bad person, so he's probably guilty about it if he does it.

Honestly didnt pay much attention to who would be the ones throwing rocks. The locals dont make sense. As you said Sebastian is outspoken. Gus is friendly with Linus etc. When I saw the title my first idea was Morris. Maybe he passed by the mountain and saw the "wild man" as trouble or not fitting what plans with the towns he has. A sort of "unknown factor" as Linus does not spend money, does not regularly enters towns and maybe Morris also spotted him rummaging through the stores trash. But honestly the dwarf also makes perfect sense. Maybe to the dwarf Linus is also weird as he does not act like the other humans. He is "weird" compared to them and far too close to his shop. And as you said the dwarf probably just wants to scare him away. Move his tent. Maybe as a personal headcanon. Linus is a sort of druid. Maybe the dwarf senses some form of nature magic in him that he doesnt like or feels save about.

@@sodorart Like we know Linus and the wizard are friends. Linus can walk in the mines and either deal with the monsters or avoid them through ways. Linus has a deeper knowledge on the valley. So while his magic may not be powerful he may have some. Enough at least to get some reaction from the dwarf.

Nice theory I never even thought about that possibility!! I lowkey feel like it’s Lewis trying to urge him out of town since he doesn’t bring in extra tax revenue for his gold statues and whatever else he wastes the towns money on. Not to mention Lewis has been caught sneaking around late at night (if you know you know). Dunno if he’d treck up the mountain but he’s definitely been out late and I wouldn’t put it past him to be petty like that😅

Makes sense. I love this folklore version of dwarves that stardew portrays. But even the Tolkein versions have the exact same love of mining, and respect for the craft. There is no version of a dwarf that doesn't give you mad respect for swinging a pickaxe well.

I wouldn't totally rule out Sebastian though, I could see him smoke a joint and do it as a prank... And there is Marlon and the witch too who live in the vicinity, I am not sure why either of them would have a motivation to do so but we can't rule them out. The witch can be a bit mean and Linus is buddy with her ex husband but I think she would use magic to screw with him instead of just throwing rocks. If it was closer to town, Shane would have been the most likely culprit but he is usually way to drunk to stumble up in the mountains on his way home. Or heck, maybe it is Lewis sneaking out and doing it to get rid of the person not paying tax. He is rather mean even if he acts friendly and I suspect Jas is his and Marnie's kid. I admit the Dwarf still is the likeliest culprit but that doesn't mean he is guilty. I don't think it is just rocks falling down the mountain.

writing this before watching so it doesn't skew my opinion. irl im passionate abt support for the unhoused so i was LIVID when i got the rock throwing dialogue and it's never left my mind in my 1000 hours in the game; i think it could be shane bc ik how some alcoholics get when they drink, but more likely pam (also while drunk) bc she's jealous that he's content w his life in a tent when she resents that she lives in a trailer, or lewis as a scheme to get linus to move into a house and start paying taxes lol. finished the video and i think sebastian is an interesting and likely theory! considering he's CA's self insert i don't think he /really/ did it but that's just bc i don't think CA really intended for any of the townies to be the culprit, so it's just as valid as any other headcannon imo

@@flamefists911 Would be quite funny if he wanted to give Linus 50% off coupons but he was too scared to, his solution was attaching them to rocks and chucking them near Linus tent. Maybe he accidentally hit the tent a few times cause he's sucks at throwing, spending most of his time in an office.

@sodorart ​ Simply put the reason why you can't rule out Abigail is because of a few things. You went ahead and you said that is not a small distance in between the village and the upper area for in-game mechanics we skip over the distance but there is actually some distance between the two right and that was your reason for ruling out Abigail. During rainy days Abigail can be seen playing her flute over by the trees. she wants to become an adventurer and after you marry her you will see her in the minds on rainy days. another one of her heart scenes has her playing out late at night in the graveyard so she's not above venturing out late at night or even sneaking out. And given her protective nature she's not always open to strangers and she might see it as protecting her friends do you drive away squatters she might even be seeing it as protecting her friends.
