In this video, we explore the life and theology of Augustine, we dive into the transformative journey of his life from restlessness and indulgence to his profound conversion to Christianity. This video explores Augustine's intense spiritual quest for truth, his initial embrace of Manichaeanism, and his eventual disillusionment with the sect. Witness his pivotal spiritual awakening in Milan, which steered him towards significant intellectual pursuits and laid the foundation for his theological legacy.

Good video. Covered the life and work of Augustine about as well as can be done in a 16-minute video. Thanks for doing these. A video about Christ's descent into hell sounds very interesting. Would definitely love to see that one.

Wonderful! Thank you so much for all you do: your videos, posts, books… How can we have the best use of all this content? I forget often so much what I hear or read and when taking notes, I don’t go back to them!

Mike, excellent video as always. Instead of doing the AI voices, you should do all of the parts but each section you should speak as a different character and present it in a one-person musical theatre style.

As someone who grew up in a rather anti-intellectual religious tradition that didn't encourage exploring the early church fathers, I've really enjoyed this series of incredibly helpful videos. But when it comes to Augustine of Hippo, in light of the recent scholarship from Kurt Jaros and Ali Bonner re Pelagianism, I do feel some conflict. I can find very little engagement with their work that isn't overtly framed as: 'ha, see, Calvinists are wrong across the board!'. But from the pro-Augustinian side of the aisle it seems like radio silence. Would love Dr Bird to address this or be directed to any content that lays out any of the potentially troubling aspects of the fathers, especially Augustine. I feel frustrated that he either seems to be breathlessly venerated or slammed as a 'mark and avoid' heretic himself. As a curious lay person, finding some kind of balance in any Augustinian presentation has been oddly challenging.
