I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco in the late 1990s. I've been told by many Amazigh/Berber that the Northeastern Rif Mountain region absorbed a lot of Vandals, hence the predominance of red hair and green eyes in that particular region.

Amazing!!! Fascinating! There are towns in South Vietnamese that have a decent percentage of mixed race (Vietnamese and white/black American) people descended from the offspring of soldiers during the Vietnam war. Alotnof them fled Vietnam to countries like the Us, Canada, Germany and France and other western countries, bc of persecution and difficulties among their own people and for their safety. Very sad 😢😢😢

I really enjoy the unified esthetics you've developed on your videos. The grainy textures. The colours. The slight glow around white and red elements on the black background. The subtle music. Very tastefully done and obviously well thought out. 👌 Fascinating subject, the Vandals.

Amazing channel, so happy to have found you. No agenda, just beautiful visuals, and straight facts. Thank you This may be semantics, but I would like to provide a small note for the future. This brings up an interesting historical study on what I would tentatively call the "Great Man" empires: Golden ages that existed for a single ruler, and then fell apart when he died, as his successors were not competent enough to maintain rule. Along with Gaiseric I would also include Attila the Hun, Alexander, and Genghis Khan among this group. A thought idea for a future video.

Interesting to hear about Arius, the priest, in a Vandals flick. Roman Piso will tell you the top Vandal royals who sacked Rome were blood descendants of Arrius Calpurnius Piso, aka St. Peter. Arius, the heretic priest, was an invention of the blood descendants of the real Arrius who died in 118 AD under the alias Euphrates, the philosopher. See Roman Piso.

The ending author of the quote may have been exaggerating, the vandals did not go into obscurity, they're sacking was so legendary that we describe any destruction of property in legal terms, as vandalism. And someone that partakes in destruction of property a vandal. Even so damn long after their absorption into the greater demographics of the areas they ended up. There's nothing miniscule about that. 😅

Negligible! 24:40 this isn't negligible! The difference between Arianism and lower case o orthodox lower case c catholic faith lives out the truth of divine definition, one God eternal. The Arian heresy makes the divine essence sounds like it disseminates into a created being but than Jesus ceases to be truly God. I get it your not religious but this has everlasting meaning to 2 billion Christians. Jesus is eternally God without a when point, the divine substance may incarnate in a human body but that soul is preexistence, and is God. Hebrews 1 verse 8-12 calls Jesus God And John 17:5 when Jesus asks the father to glorify him before all ages. Which obviously means God existed literally before creation or all ages.

Amazing video as usual. One thing that you don't get is that catholicism didn't exist in that age. It started when the great schism happened. Before that, we should not make reference either to catholicism or to orthodoxy, and maybe think about them in one single united church that doesn't exist anymore. Like the melkite or imperial church, for example.

Vandals is a pejorative name used from the Rome/Germans, such as Vulgar from the folk Volgars or Bastards from the tribe of the same name. The Vandals are the Wends or the Slavs. Sclaves as a name has been used since the 6th century, before that Sarmatians were used. From the word Sa-brats or Relatives. Where does the word Sorbi come from, the Sarbs, the Serbs. LIMES SORABICUS is the Venetian line. From Rostock(Rastoke in slavic) to Venetia. Just as the exonym Vendish for Germans is a designation for Slavs (the old name are Sa-brats or Serbs), so same the Serbs or Slavs have an exonym for Germans - Nemci, meaning deaf or dumb people.

@FranconiaForever PROPER :))? Look, a lot was written in the era of German romanticism. Goths are according to the Swedish romanticist who wrote the Silver Codex,(which he claims is from the early Middle Ages, but in fact the technique used to write it is from the 17th century). The Goths are described as coming in three ships, half of which die, and the rest destroy all of Scythia :)). It's ridiculous, unscientific. That's romanticism. Science cannot be based on subjective bias. The Anglo-Americans dispelled those theories a long time ago, the French. Goths are Gethe according to St. Jerome. And that means farmers. They lived in the area of today's Ukraine and DID NOT COME FROM Scandinavia, but FLED to Scandinavia from the Huns, who were not Arie christians, but polytheists, animists. They are divided into Vistulo Gethe and Ister/or Danube Gethe. This is a people who speak the same language as today's Czechs, Slovaks for example. They also have the same surnames ending in -IK. Like, for example, Massarik. In Serbs it is in -ic. In fact, it means the son of a man. Like -sen or -son in Dans or Swedes. All of them belong to, including the Vandals or Vendas and the Gothas or Gethes, in the Slavs. Slavs are not used as a name ANYWHERE until the 6th century when they gave the most slaves to the Roman Empire. Sclaves equals slave. Before that, they were Sarmatians as a distorted Roman name for Sa-brats or co-brothers or relatives. Of them, only the Serbs, Sarbs, Sorbs kept the name in their name. Limes Sorabicus or Vendish lines come from there.
