The divisional expectations feel interesting as well. The Steelers can look around and feel every team could win (and lose) the Division. Those 6 divisional matches become so cut throat that it’s a gauntlet of ‘must wins’ before you even hit the postseason. Steelers’ decisions will be ‘win now’ and will turn on a dime far quicker if a trip starts looking like a stumble or if a window of opportunity opens to the postseason. Meanwhile, it feels like the Mahomes effect is so strong (Chiefs having won the AFC West the last 8 seasons, and converting that into the last 6 AFC Championship games at absolute worst) that the expectation ceiling for the Raiders and Broncos becomes ‘Wild Card ? Can we be the 5th-7th best side in the AFC ?’ This gives each side a squishy soft landing to fall on if they aim for 11-6, but end up anything above 8-9. Even a terrible season can be shrugged off. ‘Oh, but they had Minshew/O’Connell or Stidham/Rookie Year God Bless Bo Nix that year against back-to-back Mahomes & Co’. Neither side need to tank, but neither side needs the expectations of success. It’s horrible to say that some seasons, teams just ‘exist’, but both sides can just build in the shadows…. and beat Harbaugh’s Chargers senseless.

Pretty sure jjetas will not be happy if JJ doesn't start. The GM knows he's just keeping competitive energy in the locker room. JJ will likely start by week 2 or 3 at the latest. Fields will eventually start. Low upside aging QB vs high upside young QB. Kirk cousins is a veteran while penix jr. Has arm talent but needs a year before competing for the job especially with all that guaranteed money to Kirk. Bo nix will not lose that job or every broncos fan will burn the stadium to the ground. If it's a tie, keep the veteran but if Maye shows any glimpses in camp or preseason, he should be the guy week 1. And I don't just say this because rookie QBs historically don't do well week 1 and my Bengals play the Pats week 1....

As a Purdue fan who followed AOC for a long time, don't let his goofy looks fool you. There's no doubt the man has a ceiling - he's not sniffing the hall of fame. However, he's a tough SOB and is way better than you would think he should be, the rare QB that's much better than the sum of his parts. My prediction is that he's going to have a long and storied career of bouncing around the NFL being a bridge QB for teams that are targeting the next draft for the face of their franchise, and then ruining that draft by winning two or three more games than the team wants to that season, maybe even backing into the wild card in a weak division.

Steelers are indeed in QB purgatory... But we also didn't pay a meaningful amount for either Wingus or Dingus, or give up and draft capital, so it barely matters if they are dreadful. Compared to last year one or other of them will probably be a bit better overall, and if they don't even make it that far then we were going to be looking for an FA or high draft pick next year anyway. We literally lost nothing to try out two guys who might be alright, and we had three guys who suck, so... Minor upside.

I think the Steelers will start Russ at the beginning of the season, but I wouldn't be surprised if they put Fields in by week 7-8 for a change of pace if they aren't producing on offense enough. The one thing that is certain about Fields is that he can make big plays when he needs to. Russ has always been more of a consistent passer throughout a game, so if he starts off bad, he's gonna finish bad.

This seems very odd. I haven’t received any notification from my local camera store but that is normal. The Steelers will start Wilson unless there is no other option. The pick for the Bears will turn from a 6th to a 4th rounder if Fields plays a certain number of snaps this year. I would like to see him get another chance but I doubt it happens this year unless Russ is battling injuries.

The difference between a 4th and a 6th is definitely impactful, but I doubt it’s enough for a head coach to start a guy at the most important position in sports who he feels isn’t the better overall player. Especially because there’s absolutely no guarantee that Fields won’t end up hitting the snap count anyway due to an injury or just bad form. If Russ starts 1-3 and looks past it, there’s way too much pressure on the organisation not to put Fields in and at least try to save the season. If it’s neck-and-neck then sure, Russ’ lack of contractual baggage means he wins the tiebreaker - but there’s very little more important to a football org than a QB you feel confident in.

Nathan Rourke is gonna be the Atlanta Falcons starter. I’ve been hoping for sooo long that he makes it. The teams he was with previously with somehow didn’t want to give him a shot. A quarterback with playoff experience in CFL, won the Natty in the Canada University championship. The Giants really decided to put him on waivers. And the Patriots wouldn’t give him snaps in meaningless games. And the Jags didn’t make him at least the third stringer. Oh he also set the CFL Rookie touchdown record and a few other ones. I scream WHY THE FALCONS?! But now I hope they trade him to an actual good team when everyone sees how good he actually is. He’s literally the BEST Canadian quarterback prospect we’ve ever had.

I don't see Fields starting in Week 1 but later in the season or if Russ sucks by week 3 or 4 then Fields would be put in as the starter. I see Nix as the week 1 starter because Broncos fans know what Jarrett Stidham is capable of. In Jacksonville I could see Mac Jones get some playing time if Lawrence gets hurt again. Also in Tennessee I could see Mason Rudolph get some playing time as a starter if Levis struggles.
