We lived on a Cork Tree farm in Portugal with grazing sheep beneath. They numbered the trees from 0-9 and harvested the cork bark sheets once every 10 years. I didn't know they had cork oak in the US. Lovely turning with fantastic contrasting colors. Bravo.

I love the way they bark has that dark ring just before you get to the real wood :-) the contrast in colours is something I really do like. Hi Phil. Hope you have a fireplace for all the broken branches that fell during your wind storm. This year is broken-branch winter in our neck of the woods. That's fur sure. Our ice is finally thick enough to walk out on. The ice-fishers are out, with there wind-protecting tents. Can't wait for a windless, sunny day, to strap on the snow shoes, grab the pole and go for a walk out on the lake. Cork oak. Had never heard of it. ....Why do I think that cork grows in Italy? Must have heard that at one point. Or, it that violin wood? Can't remember now. Anyhoo, your turn tonight is sooooo cool! Your choice of what was up and what was down was a surprise to me. Your ability to "advance-see" a shape in a block of wood always amazes me. Nnnnneat colour!
