Hi Phil, I am with you on keeping the textured top surface; it shows a lovely contrast against the smooth finish in the bowl and on the underside. I am currently enjoying making some bowls/ platters/ dishes in what I like to think of as my 'inspired by Phil' style, trying to leave as much Nature as I can. It's fun!

Phil, Challenge met and successfully conquered. It was my chainsaw that left those marks when I cut the thick pith slice out of the log. Usually I cut a pith slice in two along the pith, but this one was too pretty to turn into waste wood. Since the pith was actually pretty tight and solid, I figured you might enjoy playing with it. Well done!

Mr Phil, I can't imagine how anybody would have a single complaint about your work. I've yet to see one of your masterpieces that I do not like. This particular piece is just full of originality and I love it. The best feature, in my opinion, is the one feature I don't think I've seen you put on a piece until now; that textured top. That texture on the top makes the whole piece. Along with the live edge, it simply adds to the character of the piece as a whole. I love your vision on this piece and pretty much every piece of art you turn out. It's truly amazing.

‘One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.’ I wouldn’t call it ‘throw away wood’ just because someone else doesn’t grasp the value of Life. It’s a very pretty bowl. I could see that in a home’s entrance as a place to put keys. Or it could be used in an office to place one’s business cards. It has lots of applications. 👍🏻✌🏻

@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop I'm eventually going to try to get you and Gary both a piece of Butternut to try out. It's nickname is called the White Walnut and it's pretty hard to find due to it's rarity. The reason why I'm going to send you both a piece is because you guys are the ones that got me wanting to turn and it's given me a purpose. I've always wanted to do things with wood ever since I was a kid I took wood shop, but I knew that I could never afford a shop. Now I'm loving what I do and I love selling my work. It's given me a reason to keep going every day. So like I said to Gary a few weeks back. Thank you for sharing what you do because if it weren't for those videos I would be in a different place. Just thought I'd give you a little back round on me. Happy turning my friend ☺️

You know Phil if you had a substantially larger hunk of pith, you could turn a darn good looking pith pot. However only us older folks would remember using one of those to keep from having to go outside to the outhouse on a bitter cold night. Younger folks must think we lived back in the stone ages. I still have a couple old phone books in case we have to revert back to those days.

Hi Phil I love the way you explain to us what you are doing and why and what tools you are using and why. This shows what a masterwoodturner you are as you can turn a piece others would of put on the fire and you make a master piece of art and this candy dish is no exception. Love your videos thank you for this one, im glad you keep your items natural. Take care of yourself see you in the next video. Love from Amanda xx

You can almost feel the texture through the screen. Thank you for showing us that you don't have to spend major $$$ on wood. Beautiful.

You finessed the beauty right out of that one. I love the natural texture on the top and how it contrasts with the turned surface, Gorgeous!!

Turning trash into treasure, Phil’s specialty! Even though I’m not usually a fan of maple (except curly maple), this is beautiful! 👌💕👍💕😊

Hey Phil, I always knew you were taking the "pith"! And you're doing that magic thing again - the wood is spinning and you have your bowl gouge pointing at NOTHING but chunks of wood are flying off - MAGIC! And once again, a Phil Anderson special - very little turning, and let the wood speak for itself!! Excellent!!

You done did it Phil! You turned the pith out of that piece. What you left really cool. I was liking it all but when you said you were going to leave the top the way it was I could hardly wait to see how cool it was going to be. What a great call on that. That piece of wood may have thought it was scrap but Valerie knew just who to send it to. Very nice my friend, Oh kind of small for a candy bowl LOL Gary

Great job Phil, you sold me on it. While you were turning it, I couldn’t help but think it would also be beautiful if on a cracked piece of wood you could rescue it with a bow tie splint glued all the way through it so it shows on both sides. Just a thought for something that you might throw in the fireplace! If anyone could do it you could! Thanks for you videos.
