We have a strong Irish connection up here in Scotland, especially with us being originally Irish many many years ago and of course we have Glasgow Celtic football club, the main rivals to Glasgow Rangers. There are also many great Irish pubs in Glasgow, serving great pints of my favourite drink, Guinness. Even though this band is from Quincy, Massachusetts, they clearly have Irish roots and fit very well into our culture over here. Ohhh you must react to The Levellers. They were a folk rock band from the 90s and were absolutely HUGE in the UK with the younger generation. They headlined Glastonbury back then. They have a very folky but heavy sound, with that 90s indie feel that you guys love. Their stuff is very uplifting and went down very well with the carefree youngsters. A couple of their mammoth anthems you must check out are "Fifteen Years", and "One Way". These totally encapsulate the carefree indie 90s mentality. They use violins and mandolins with heavy guitar work.

I hope you get to Mary Black this St Paddy's. She was tested to have the most perfect pitch among English language singers, and for decades her voice was used as the benchmark for recording equipment. Her hit, ""Past the Point of Rescue", was covered in the US by Hank Ketchum, but Mary herself never pursued an American career, preferring to remain in Ireland.

My earliest memory of Mary Black is her on the Late Late Show back in the 80s singing Colcannon with her sister and brothers. No instruments bar their voices. Check it out. Video on KZbin. This is Celtic Punk, blends traditional Irish instruments with punk style. Dropkicks have been doing it for close to 30 years, now, but there are others you'd love--think you played a Pogues song when Shane MacGowan passed away, and they're one of the originals. Charlatans are another great one. Favorite Dropkicks album is still the live one from 2002. This isn't an Irish mob thing, just street kids getting into scraps (although it was used in an Irish mob movie--it was the main song on the soundtrack to Martin Scorsese's "The Departed"). Band did used to have a bagpipe player in it, years and years ago, a giant mountain of a man who went by the stage name "Spicy McHaggis," but he's been gone for quite awhile.

FINALLY!!! Been begging for this ever since the channel was just Jay in front of a rainbow brick backdrop. Dropkick Murphys (DKM) are Boston Irish punk. They are an awesome band to see live & are very welcoming to their fans. Some other songs of theirs I would strongly recommend include "Rose Tattoo", "The Warrior's Code", "Captain Kelly's Kitchen" (a fun song), "The Green Fields of France" (a beautiful tribute to fallen soldiers), "Wicked Sensitive Crew", (another fun song) "Worker's Song", "Last Letter Home" (which is a tribute to a DKM fan who was killed in Iraq - the lyrics are taken from letters between he & his family), "Deeds Not Words", "Forever" (a beautiful love song), "Which Side Are You On", "Heroes From Our Past", and at Xmas, y'all have to react to "The Season's Upon Us". The band has been around for 25+ years, so there's a lot to choose from!
