The Silver Jubilee is probably my absolute dream amp. My love for it originates with my love for Gary Holt's guitar tone. He is obviously known for playing a variety of amps but he used Marshalls for so many records and he's been using a Silver Jubilee for the last couple of years. I saw Exodus live a couple of times during the last couple of years and Gary's tone was always awesome. He just has this mean, brutal, crushing tone that rips you to pieces. And when I learned that he gets that tone from a stock Marshall Silver Jubilee, I immediately knew that I want to have one of them one day.

The Jubilee is far and away my favorite Marshall. It does the vintage stuff and higher gain perfectly. I've been an amp tech for a decade now. I've built a couple dozen amps in the last couple years, many of them are kits people bought because they didn't want to wait for one to be built for them. People ask for opinions on what to try and this is usually the one, unless they're really looking for something only a JTM45 or 1959 Plexi can give. For single coil players that want to have a high(er) gain tone, I don't think any other model comes close. The darker nature just mixes well with the thinner, brighter tone of a single coil. I'll run it through Greenbacks with a Strat, but a brighter voiced speaker like the Vintage 30s are best with everything else. I fell in love with the Eminence EJ1240 Alnico. I've been a dedicated EJ1250 player for most amps, but the more modern feel and sound of the 40W is perfect with these.

Wait, how much?? I guess that's why Mesa is considered 'overpriced' over on this side of the pond… the same way Marshalls are way overpriced over there :). A 100w 2555x Silver Jubilee (not the black one, no) is 2.5x times _less_ than a dual rectifier. I love the Mesa amps but once you look how much you have to pay for them over here, you are way into boutique territory. And there are amps that are also very nice for way less. I guess that's why the Silver Jubilee is quite a popular amp over here. It gives a bit more of that scooped sound while still having a bit of that Marshall-tone in there, for not much more than some budget brands. And if I start saving up for a Dual Rect … before I have the money together I get to the point where I think 'I can have a Super Kraken or an Invective _right now_, or keep saving to get a Dual Rect later'... most people choose for an amp right now :). Just as a reference - and not to bash amps or say one is better, just to put pricing into context : - 2555x Silver Jubilee 100w - 1120 - JVM410h 100w - 1300 - jcm800 2203 reissue - 1700 - 5150 iii stealh 100w - 1800 - engl powerball - 1600 - victory super krake - 1650 - peavey invective 120 - 1750 - rockerverb 100 mk3 - 1830 - engl savage e120 - 2333 - mesa dual rect - 2750 - mesa triple rect - 2900 - mesa mark v - 3000

$3000+ is insane for the hand wired Plexis when you can get a Ceriatone for less than half. It's even more true for these types of amps. Spending as much for a PCB Marshall reissue as these, when you can get a hand wired for half is a no brainer. Though while their OTs are more than up to the job, I'd still suggest spending the little extra for a Mercury Magnetics.

The reason I signed up to buy the next one available from Sweetwater was because I read on a forum that Exodus's album "Impact is Imminent" used a langner modded 800... And I read that a silver jubilee supposedly sounds pretty similar to that mod. How well do you think this amp could replicate that early 90s thrash tone like "Impact is Imminent"; perhaps with a tubescreamer? Loved the video man the amp sounded a lot like what I imagined it would and what I'm looking for! Just hoping that bass tightens up nicely with a tubescreamer but still resonates with volume with all the gain lol. Thanks Fluff!

@@brpadington I couldn’t have said it better myself. You’re absolutely right. So I went to my local SamAsh and I saw the half stack, plugged it in. Set the controls to the identical settings on ETID JCM800. And this thing growled! The salesman said “how the hell did you get that tone, me and my friend cranked this thing in the back to get a sound that wasn’t too thin or trebly”.
