During tournament days in early 90s, there were tons of anglers that were driven to use that mouth piercing cull trick. Most used old metal shower curtain hooks with different color bobbers on them. None of them were ever in my bass boat & I personally just don't use them. Now with that being said,..... If you catch fish that eat surface baits, just use a little caution. There's been numerous reports of all kinds of things in a basses mouth during these times. I landed one recently that had eaten a large hornet. It was still alive and I had to go change pants. I laughed later but it was far from funny when I realized it at first. Pop Rs still work like a dream 👌

@COLE_and_JAY
@COLE_and_JAY 3 жыл бұрын
At first I actually thought it was from my hook set lol. It could be or from someone sticking a scale through its lip too. Either way, I thought it would be good to bring that issue to light. Penetrating cull tags aren’t all that bad but there are so many people who use them incorrectly. That’s why everyone should swap to non penetrating; just to be safe. I was just happy to see that someone caught and released this big fish. Thanks for watching!

@@COLE_and_JAY yep, usually really good in the summertime. If you don’t have a graph, put your kayak 50-60 yards from the pump thingie with it directly behind you and make long casts 12:00 to 4:00 and you should drag right over it. You’ll know cause you’ll feel some chunk rock on the hump. Big deep divers work great there too. The fish just seem to stack up there when nothing else works.

That baitcast rod you are using has some backbone. I believe it's the same one you used on those big stripes early in the spring and it seems to handle big largemouths with ease. I know it's a 6th Sense ESP series. Is it the medium heavy or heavy version of that rod? By the way, Cypress definitely has Harken eyes. There's no denying that boy.

This is a 7’7” Heavy ESP. It has a ton of backbone. It’s one of the newer models and I love it. I was using the 7’3” Heavy mod action for the topwater Striper! ESP rods are so legit!

I recognized the lake right when I clicked on the video! I’ve heard Arkansas Game and Fish will be adding a fishing pier out there somewhere. And other improvements as well. Don’t know how true that is, but that’s what I heard. It’s a nice little lake. Definitely has some nice fish!

As this is a parasites lake it would be a good idea to clean all tack we just in it can be transferred to other water ways, swimmers will thank you!!!

I absolutely agree! This can happen with with European Millfoil (that's the Millfoil that is invasive and takin over so many bodies of water in the US right? LOL). It can transfer on boats, lures/hooks/line, nets, trailers, truck tires. Hell, geese and ducks are the major contributor of it's spread the IA DNR told me.

Cal Coast fishing makes some really good cull clips that just clip on fish the same as a scale clip does; or a hawg leash---all the same type latching clips that don't poke holes in the fish. also off the subject- cal coast fishing also makes the best terminal tackle box. check it out when you get cull clips.

Jay, I love your channel but I have been wondering if you ever thought about fishing bass tournaments you fish more than any one I know, and it seems that you would have a very good chance of getting in the money. I made my living as a plumber and fished many tournaments in the late 80's and early 90's finishing many time 1 or 2 places out of the money at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri and you were fishing in this video with my favorite summertime bass bait. Please reply I'm just curious. Great video as usual.
