Whole Wheat Cinnamon Rolls With Dates | Fresh Milled Flour
We visited a local Date Farm While we were in the area of Palm Springs, CA. I was inspired to make something with these local Fresh dates! So, today we are making an unexpected & unique cinnamon roll flavor - Fresh Dates! Follow along and see how they turned out!

I finally made these yesterday. It was quite a challenge, but end result was great. I think next time I will not cook the dates, and just sprinkle them on top of my filling.

Yes, dates can be a bit sticky! These are great even without the dates as regular cinnamon rolls as well!

Should adding the yeast to the flour, and then adding the wet ingredients to mix it all together, make a difference? I got worried that the yeast wouldn’t mix through the entirety of the dough

I always add it later, so I can let the fresh milled flour soak with the liquids. This helps it to absorb the liquids, because it takes longer to. Also, it helps the bran to soften. Then I add the yeast. If you are concerned about it not mixing throughout, then you can bloom the yeast during the soaking period, then add it. (to bloom, add a small portion of water and a pinch of the sugar to a small bowl, add the yeast, and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Then it should be nice and foamy.) I hope that helps! I have lots of other videos that are newer that may explain this better. Happy Baking!

I have made these and they are sooooo delicious! I only ever use fresh milled flour and have used several of your recipes and they are always so simple and taste wonderful. I want to make some of these cinnamon rolls for a friend's birthday but she can only do sourdough, not commercial yeast. How would your process change if you were to make these with sourdough?

Thank you so much! I would swap out the yeast for about 1/2 cup sourdough starter (113g). You may have to cut back the water just a tad if your starter is a loose starter). Then, let it double for the first rise. (times may vary depending on your starter & temp of house, etc. Mine usually takes 3-4 hours.) Shape, and let them rise until they are nice and puffy looking (around 2 or 3 hours for mine.) I hope that helps! That is so nice of you to make for her! Happy Baking!

​@@GrainsInSmallPlacessorry, one more quick question if you don't mind - at what point would you add the starter? Would you mix it with the liquid ingredients at the beginning? Or should I just follow the same procedure you have in your recipe and just add it in step 8, in place of the yeast?

Made your cinnamon rolls with raisins and pecans, and they were wonderful! Also made your sandwich bread - turned out great! Kneading the dough for 20-25 minutes and scalding the milk has been a game changer for me!! Thank you so much! Keep those recipes coming!! Happy Thanksgiving and God bless!

What good is whole grains if you add sugar? Sugar or brown sugar doesn't make any difference brown sugar is just sugar with molasses added to it but if anyone has done their research you'd know that sugar in general depletes you of your nutrients and causes you to be nutrient defencient. Therefore you had many nutritious thing's in this batch. You should have just used Raw unfiltered pure honey instead. This is the ultimate way to be healthy. And please don't use seed oils. Your extra virgin olive was great, i liked it. Seed oils are the drivers behind cancer, kidney, obesity, dementia, Alhiemers and many many other disease's and when you add sugar and refined carbs to the mix, you're just asking for troubles down the road in your life. Stick with the grass fed butter or ghee.

Thank you for your comment, I realize there are healthier recipes, and healthier options out there. But, I also know that not everyone is there yet. So, if step one to a healthier living is to mill your own flour, which you know if filled with nutrition and fiber. And, then progress into honey rather than sugar, etc. It helps start these building blocks to healthier living.

I'm tying to help you lady, stop using the brown sugar it's still killing you and robbing you of your nutrients whether you know it or not. Switch to a keto diet do intermittent fasting and watch Doctor's like Dr. Boz, Dr. Berg. Most importantly seek YAHUAH for wisdom. Jesus never gave you this wisdom, YAHUAH did.
