When it comes to what is women's clothing and men’s clothing, I believe we can use your own culture, because the bible gives use the opportunity to do as we understand things and so it will be differ all over the world . As someone who is from Australia with only UK (mostly English) family heritage for over 500 years that I know of. I would say only in the last 50 to 60 years women have been wearing pants in large groups in my culture. And the women who started wearing/design them often did so, to say that they are better than men in the early 1900’s and they were known to hat mean. So should we as people with UK heritage say that women can wear pants, I would say no. and men should only wear pants or a kilt on their bottom half. But I need to add that I would only do this with in my owned family. And we need to keep in mind what is appropriate for the person culture. Like in India and parts of the Middle East women have been wearing pants for hundreds of years, so I would say that in their culture it is ok for women to wear pants.

Thanks for the comment, Nicole. I agree that culture can have an impact on gender clothing selections. One of my points is that many Christians try really hard to impose their own preferences (or culture) on everyone else as if they were the only right (or wrong) standards yet without biblical support. The Bible is not so specific in many cases. The lack of Bible support means that there is latitude within a culture or between cultures. One culture is not superior to another (outside of Scripture). So we shouldn't be looking down on other people or condemning them for different modesty standards (again, outside of the specifics in the Word). Even when there is a problem, we should look to the Word to provide the guidance. Too often we just use our own preferences to judge. If we teach the Word, then modesty I think will follow. The problem with using culture as the only guide is that culture changes, and many cultures are far outside of biblical modesty. Deep down, all of us know what is modest and what isn't, or close to it. We all know sin. A hundred years ago the standards were different. A thousand years even more different. I don't like many of the modern standards and I wish they were better (more biblical). Modern culture is falling apart, especially here in the States. But I like even less some guy (or girl) running around telling women they are going to hell because of clothing choices that are not spelled out in the Bible. I would rather the Bible was taught (and practiced) more than it is. Do you agree?
