That’s a very technical repair, thank you for the detailed video.

I am the tech on this repair. Let me say that I know this is not a glass level repair and more time would have improved the repair. It did exceed customer expectations. Great job to Dave Johnson Dent Repair for the great video edit!

Hi Mark, Great repair and nicely done detailed video! What is your gudeline or " secret" to not pull paint off with glue pulling? Do you warn/give disclamer to the customer of that possibility? In your experience, what cars are known to have not so great oem paint adhesion? Thanks!
@sparkeym5 жыл бұрын
@@progi2 I always give disclaimers but usually I look for clear coat damage on sharper dents. The impacting object will sometimes push the clear away at impact causing the clear to thin out or even go down to the paint layer. This is a good indicator that damage (paint/clear pulling off) is more likely. In my experience Subaru is the worst for factory paint pulling so I always feel the need to advise customer of possibility and ask if they want to assume risk or liability. If it bothers the customer enough to want to paint I will give it a go.

Is there anything that can be done to take out the heavy orange peal affect afterwards? Yes, the big dent is gone, but it looked like very heavy orange peal was left behind
@DaveJohnsonDentRepair4 жыл бұрын
There is ways to address this. To detail it out would take a considerable amount of time more. This dent was a wholesale repair with the understanding of the finish for the agreed price. It always seems that the details of the dent repair take the longest. I appreciate you checking it out and commenting.
@sparkeym4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. This was an 80% repair. I could have spent another hour to 90mins and removed all of the orange peel but that of course would have looked flat and would have stood out just as much as the "large" orange peel. Now back to your question. The impact that created this damage did not affect the factory finish or factory orange peel which is not common in all dent/ding damages. Since the original finish and orange peel was intact, this damage could have definitely been returned to factory condition if the proper repair time and repair value had been offered. Thanks for your question and thanks for watching!

What kind of glue did you use, I used the hot glue and they are not easy to clean them up after pulling. Any advice

It's wam weather red hot glue designed for PDR. You can use 91% isopropyl alcohol to use as a release and clean up agent. Thanks for watching!

what was the total repair time? Are these typically more trouble than they are worth? I had one on a mini cooper that was a nightmare
@sparkeym5 жыл бұрын
This repair took 2.5hrs at 80%. I would have needed another 45-60mins to get this to near flawless in a typical retail environment.

Amazing transformation from the original dent. Did you make the dent a bit wider in the first few steps?
@DaveJohnsonDentRepair5 жыл бұрын
thomkirby thanks for the comment. Yes, it was opened up to soften then another pull with the same yellow tab
@markthompsoncpa5 жыл бұрын
Do you bill on the number of total pulls?
@sparkeym5 жыл бұрын
Pricing is industry standard guide and is based on size and several other factors on this repair including depth, bodyline, and glue pull only location (no wire type tool access) which all increase the level of difficulty and time to repair. Thanks for watching Mark!

When do you plan on finishing
@DaveJohnsonDentRepair4 жыл бұрын
Ron, as mentioned in my description this was not a repair I did myself but thought there was value on the process to share. Since this was a wholesale repair for an auction vehicle there is no way it was going to be 100% at the price point agreed upon. For customer (retail) repair the price would have been higher and more time obviously would be put in. Thanks for the comment.

I do hail repair every day done this dents many times and let me tell you the anaconda with titan tabs blend out dent with red plastic dc tips and control pull with bar slowly pull trust me it works
@DaveJohnsonDentRepair5 жыл бұрын
Jose, I would imagine a skilled hail tech encounters this type of damage often and has an efficient method for rolling through numerous dents like this. Fortunately, I don’t get them quite this bad but I am intrigued by it the method you are mentioning. I would love to observe a tech such as yourself on “bad” hail damage. Thanks for watching
@goneplatinumpaintlessdentr31025 жыл бұрын
Dave I have lots of experience on extremely heavy hit hail jobs and I also have the background of auto body. I’ll be happy to share my knowledge with your audience
@billcui78275 жыл бұрын
thanks jose and dave i am do hail too, do you think when pull use the sliding hammer and mini lifter which one better? i do both but sometime i found mini lifter looks more powerful.
@DaveJohnsonDentRepair5 жыл бұрын
Bill Cui I like using the slide for quick impactful pulls. Almost to shock metal up then work with knockdowns then repeat. Also for wet pulls which doesn’t work well with mini lifter. I use the mini lifter primarily when a controlled precise pull is needed. Sometimes with a pull plate. I know many hail techs that roll quickly with a slide on rails then just blend out and move on
@goneplatinumpaintlessdentr31025 жыл бұрын
Dave I got a new knockdown all titanium will shock metal very hard less taping also is double end

Retail price on something like this?
@sparkeym5 жыл бұрын
A repair like this can vary slightly on pricing but based on 2018 nationally recognized PDR industry pricing, this is the breakdown on 2018 pricing: 2018 Retail Pricing (reference only) $250.00 [3" dent] $ 62.50 [+25% bodyline] $ 62.50 [+25% glue pull only] $187.50 [+75% Stretched Metal (1.0mm+)] __________ $562.50 [Total] $112.50- [Only 80% finish so 20%discount] __________ $450.00 Repair (reference only). I could have gotten this repair to a flawless state but this particular repair but this was a we owe for a dealer that was only promised better to the customer.

sparkeym Outstanding, I had a similar one on Friday but mine was much more shallow. Able to get a large keco tab on it. What kind of vehicle you working out of now?

I fully appreciate this work and your video. But calling this 'full process' without showing us a single pull or tap down is a huge omission. Seeing the 'english' the tech puts on his tools is hugely important for understanding how he accomplished the repair. I realize you wanted to keep it short, but this deserved multi parts if necessary to show the full process.
@DaveJohnsonDentRepair3 жыл бұрын
Hey James, I agree. This was video given to me and my understanding he was recording between the steps once there wasn’t a tripod involved. I should have probably came up with a more appropriate title/thumbnail. If I can find my original graphic I will make the change. Thanks for an honest and polite suggestion. Enjoy your weekend
