Thank you for this excellent video. I'm a British Expat living in the United States. I have visited Castle Howard and it is a place that you can go back to time and again. The grounds, trees, lakes and gardens are equally spectacular. The domed hall will take your breath away. Julie Montagu does a superb job of taking you through the house and I'm looking forward to visiting again armed with all the knowledge from this program.

I watched Brideshead Revisited when it was first broadcast in the USA. I absolutely loved it. During my first trip to the UK in 1985, I made sure to visit Castle Howard. It was very beautiful and very interesting. The tour guides made sure that the history of the family and the home was emphasized. The TV program was fictional. I was pleased that they did this politely but firmly.

I have many many wonderful memories of spending days at Castle Howard. My grandparents were friends with the family there in my childhood and I was often able to run around the grounds and house whilst the grown-ups were talking. My grandparents are buried in the 6th century church in Kirkbymoorside nearby. I'm so glad you have enjoyed your time there too.

I watched Brideshead Revisited as a teenager on german tv and I believe it inspired my love to all things british. I lived in London for a year and traveled around Britain, but it took me 40 years to come to Castle Howard and see it in all its glory. It was magnificent and like a dream wandering around the house and the lovely kitchen gardens and park, hardly believing we made it there at last. A little bit later Bridgerton aired on Netflix and featured Castle Howard and this enjoyable lovestory. What a stroke of luck. Thank you for this wonderful hour in the castle and may it bring more visitors to this great estate

Last May this world traveler was actually intimidated while approaching the awesome presence of this massive legendary GREAT house. Once inside, the devastating results of that terrible fire, and the loving restorations of its sun-drenched interior transformed Castle Howard into a lovable injured beauty that envelopes one in warmth and joy. The awe is still there - and surrounded by what I feel are the most gorgeous gardens in the UK. Thank you, Julie, for bringing us this . . . 💓🌲🌹🌺🌻🌼🌷🥀

As an avid miniaturist, I love getting ideas for my next project! Thank you! I have so much respect for the owners/caretakers of these properties. It is such a huge weight to have to worry about keeping these estates funded and up and running. I can't imagine the pressure of having to worry about being the generation that loses the property. These estates are of HUGE historic significance and must be kept going at all costs. Thanks again1

I agree. Jeremy Irons was also excellent. When I visited Castle Howard in the 1980s (see comment above), my parents and I caught a glimpse of George Howard walking through one of the rooms open to the public. The fountain had also just been restored. I still have the Ordinance Survey Atlas that I purchased so we could find our way. We were on a driving vacation; my father wanted to visit places where he was stationed during WW2. We visited his Eighth Army Air Force Base in East Anglia shortly before it was torn down. I have many fond memories of this trip.

The time it has taken to do as much as they have done over the past 80 years & the amount it has cost them to do it, just goes to show how much it cost the Royal family to restore Windsor Castle after the fire there but of course it being a Royal castle took precedence in restoring it as quickly as possible which was five years.

I must say, this is one of my favorite of your videos to date! Absolutely intrigued with the history of Castle Howard and good to learn that the family is embracing "marketing" as a way forward to restoring and maintaining this historic castle. The beauty of the rooms, the richness of the furnishings, paintings, art works, etc., and the ongoing restoration is exciting. Large and exquisite as the rooms are they are inviting; love the ambience. Perhaps another large film production like "Bridgerton" will be made and come knocking at the castle door once again which will hasten the restoration process. Thank you very much and I look forward to the next installment!

Those 300 year old bare Stone walls in the fire damaged rooms are absolutely gorgeous and brilliant. How the stones are laid is architecturally fascinating. It's heartbreaking that they're going cover it all up again, with a redux of the past with mouldings and tapestries. Those rooms have looked like that for nearly 70 years now. It's part of the "organic, evolving" life of the house that should be preserved not covered up. The Howard's are missing a special opportunity. Instead of putting money into restoring the rooms like they were, they should spend money to collect important contemporary British art to display on those beautiful bare stone walls and invite in the latest talent in British arts and crafts, lighting, furniture making and such to redecorate these rooms. Make Howard castle a place for an audience not only looking to the past but those who live in the present and look to the future.
