This is such a delightful and gentle exploration of the beauties of Beaulieu. My goodness, they've worked hard to repair, renovate and restore the estate - all whilst becoming the nation's preeminent motor car museum. We can only thank the family for their dedication and loving care. We're so lucky to have so many beautiful estates and so many hardworking families who keep them running. And, has anyone mentioned already how much Lord Beaulieu's voice is like Luke's? Must be those Montague genes!

Julie, I’m amazed you haven’t taken on somewhat of a British accent! I’m from Minnesota and was in London for a month performing in the Daily Mail Ski Show at Earl’s Court. By the time I left I was saying “sorry” a lot as that’s what the Brits would say if they didn’t understand what I said.😊 Love your videos and love seeing you in Royal Family documentaries! You’re fabulous!

I am absolutely giddy over this segment! I have commented different times about my feelings about the abbeys and I am so happy that the Montague family has embraced the history. The spring house and ice house are fascinating. Love that they allow the monks to conduct services on the site. You tickled me Julie when your first thought was to take a dunk in the spring house water! And the glamping idea. The wheels in your mind always turning! It would be amazing to take a virtual tour walking the grounds and seeing it in it’s glory. Thank you for showing this.

I am 86 years old and I remember as a very young child the ice man coming to my New York City apartment with a big block of ice for the ice box. He would always Chop off a small piece of ice for my brother and my self to suck on. It was during the the second World War. I enjoy your Vlog very much.

Julie (which is my mother’s name) you truly live a dream. What I wouldn’t give to come over and help run any one of your enterprises. I can trace my ancestry back a few hundred years over to England, and I find it my home land. But you are such an inspiration and dream for a humble boy born in the states. If you do have an opening I’d love to come join you across the pond. I know my family would be very supportive of that venture.

Julie, your returning to the ruins to sit and contemplate the history, nature and life in general reminded me of the time while in the Glastonbury Abbey ruins, I got something in my eye while wearing my contact lenses. I sat down on a ruined wall, to see if I could dislodge the grit that seemed to be in there. With tears streaming down my face, it appeared to passers-by that I might be weeping for the murdered monks from centuries before. A couple of nuns walked by and saw me, and muttered a prayer. I didn't have the heart to tell them that it was a bit of grit that had caused the tears, but thinking later and now decades later, I wonder if that grit was 'sent' to make me sit and ponder as you recently did! This is a fabulous series! You are so lucky to visit these centuries old landmarks and we are so grateful to you for sharing the 'up close' views and personal memories of the current occupants of these wonderfully historic sites! Thank you so much! Looking forward with great anticipation to the next in the series!

What an appropriate and gorgeous way to memorialize such an incredible place. I was so moved to see it. What a thoughtful family to keep this amazing piece of history alive in such a fantastic way. I would love to visit it too, way more than a car museum (sorry). I am wondering who is buried underneath. That would be interesting, but I wouldn't want them to tear anything up. Let it rest. Also, as a member of the Embroiderers' Guild of America, I am fascinated by the tapestries. Xoxo

I’ve recently found your channel and after watching some of the videos I really think you could start a tourism business taking people to some of these lesser known landmarks in the UK. You could write up the notes for each place from the videos you have made and hire some tour guides to take groups to see them. I know there are already plenty of tourism companies but I think these types of places would set you apart from the companies that just take people to the palaces and churches that everyone knows about.

It's wild how different life has become in such a short period of time. It honestly becomes mind boggling to think about, how much humanity has learned and created since this place was constructed. The fact that somehow, in the last 50 years, humans figured out how to create things like the internet, microchips, that we have smart phones and video and satellites, something that could have been technically created at any point, I mean, it's not like we were just given the things needed to create these things one day, the ability has always existed on Earth, people just needed to figure out how to do it....and with that industrialization and push towards technology and science, look how much we've learned and how much we know, compared to the people in the medieval times. They didn't know about evolution, didn't know about the big bang, didn't know dinosaurs once existed, I think that is why religion was so important in those days, humans have always craved answers and wondered what our purpose here was....as great as it is to live in a time where we have so much knowledge at our fingertips, it also must have been nice to NOT know, to be able to believe in things like God(s)

How on earth did this place come to be pronounced as "Bewely"? I have always wondered.
@amethystanne4586
@amethystanne4586 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for spelling out how the name is pronounced. I have read about British history since my teenage years, and remember really odd pieces of info. 2 pieces: Wasn’t there a church leader with the same name as this family’s, maybe from around Henry VIII’s time? I always assumed the family name had French roots, and was probably originally pronounced with a French accent, and over the years, was gradually changed to the current pronunciation? Also, at some period in the distant past, being French was not something to brag about?
@joyfairclough4686
@joyfairclough4686 2 жыл бұрын
@@amethystanne4586 I don't know about the preacher, but I'd guess many of these French names came with or in the couple of centuries after William the Conqueror. Some of them have taken quite the linguistic journey to be pronounced as they are today!
@amethystanne4586
@amethystanne4586 2 жыл бұрын
@@joyfairclough4686 I had wondered about that. Words are funny things. Take my real life last name, for example. If I am picking up something from a store, I say my last name, and the customer service person says “What?” I’ll say “, like the color!” They say “Oh!.” I have a hybrid accent(New Jersey from birth-adult, and then 35 years of living in Kentucky). I just remembered the French church leader’s name that didn’t come to mind earlier…….Cardinal Richelieu. Is it pronounced Ree sheh loo?
