@@reginaphalange8879 If they're still doing the Oscars in 20 years, I think they'll be looking back at these anti-Trump days as a blight. After all, with record-low viewership, it's obvious that the at-home audience doesn't care for their polarized and tribal presentation. I can imagine the sea of booing if someone stood on that stage during the Oscars and said "God bless America and God bless our president!" Shameful. My Filipina fiance and I both hope that the lawsuits work out for Trump and he gets four more years, because China is a menace and Trump is strong against them. Biden is useless, and I don't bloody-well trust Kamala Harris who says the riots shouldn't stop. As I recall, she also joked about locking people up for smoking pot even though she's smoked pot herself, and she's commented on keeping people locked up essentially for free labour, essentially slavery. Trump has earned four more years, he can get the economy booming again and he will push back on China and against Iran's bullying as well as fight for gay rights on an international level by putting economic and political pressure on nations which regard homosexuality as a criminal offence. God bless Trump, I hope to be a LEGAL American immigrant someday soon! I will defend the constitution and the 1st and 2nd Amendments with my life, and that includes for the people I disagree with!

Elizabeth I wore extensive white makeup, especially as she got older. This is why it's appropriate. Would not be a proper Elizabeth I without it. The costume (dress) is actually quite accurate too...
@RabiesVariant015 жыл бұрын
@Gus W not appropriate even though the Queen herself wore gallons of white make-up, basically painting to make herself look like a unnaturally white. Was Queen Elizabeth I doing white face too? She's not pretending to be "white people", she portraying herself as a single person in history who did something ridiculous. Have you ever seen any portrayals of Queen Elizabeth in theater or in movies? Even white actors do what Whoopie did to portray Queen Elizabeth. Are they doing white face? they don't look like Elizabeth either. www.townandcountrymag.com/leisure/arts-and-culture/g12203342/actresses-who-played-queen-elizabeth-i-in-movies/ Black-face and White-face play on stereotypes. White Chicks, is a racist movie. Minstrel shows in Black-face are racist. It's demeaning to the race as a whole, you're trying to portray them as inferior. You could argue that this is offensive to British culture or offensive to the Queen, but it's not racist.
@RabiesVariant015 жыл бұрын
@Gus W That's great observation you've made there Captain.
@RabiesVariant015 жыл бұрын
@Gus W not at all, you simply made an obvious state without providing an actual substantive argument. If she's a "white woman" why did all these other "white women" need to put on a gallon of clown white make up when they played the role of her in movies. Gloss over that fact all you like, it's not racist, get over it. This was an Oscars year when two movies about Queen Elizabeth came out and women that played Queen Elizabeth put on the make-up in the same fashion. What is with Righties and Lefties, you guys all need little safe spaces or your heads will implode. Everyone needs to be the real victim, under attack. For someone who has an issue with Lefties, you sure sound like one. Original comment had nothing to do with politics.
@RabiesVariant015 жыл бұрын
@Gus W did you not actually read my comment about the movie white chicks or minstrel shows? You're the one applying leftist/righty ideology here you ideological zealot. Intent matter, action, and context matters. I've already explained why this isn't white face. It someone painted their face White and said "I'm Gus W" and they tried to go on white stereotypes I'd 100% agree with you. I would not say the same in this specific instance because of what Queen Elizabeth herself did. Your issue is white skin, but you're so oblivious to the fact that a fuck ton of make is a fuck ton of make-up. If Queen Elizabeth had, for whatever reason, used blue or red make-up you'd have nothing to say except "oh that's stupid", but because "white" is you holy identity politics color you feel the need to rant and rave like a zealot. Queen Elizabeth basically put white paint on her face like a God-damn clown, but I guess Black clowns are racist. You're literally a reverse leftist "I don't need evidence, it's just racist against white people because I have to do the opposite of what people on the Left the do. How old are you 15?"

You have to admire the creativity that people had in those times coming up with all these dresses and stuff. Not even Hollywood can come up with that.

Okay, everyone. I want to set the record straight. I don't know about this "white-face" "black-face" stuff, but this was a pure impersonation. Two movies that were nominated for Oscars that year, "Shakespeare in Love" and "Elizabeth", included Queen Elizabeth, so Whoopi dressed up like her. The music played in the background is the theme song from "Shakespeare in Love". In that movie, an older version of Queen Elizabeth is played by Judi Dench. In Elizabeth, she is potrayed by Cate Blanchett, as a young adult.

+Morgan Wipert I think the problem is that black-face WAS a mockery of black people for many, many, many, many years. It was meant to degrade. Here, we aren't sure what to think because this is a reverse. I know WHY Whoopie did it, but I also understand anyone that might be a little thrown off by it.
@scottjhnsn8 жыл бұрын
people seem to forget too that in those days people such as the queen also famously used thick white powder to appear more porcelain as if to convey that virginal and pure essence.

+Ryan Beaty No, I don't understand people being "thrown off" when the Queen in the movie Shakespeare in Love - Dame Judy Dench - had white face paint on. Exactly like what Whoopi had, hence the theme of Whoopi's monologue. Dumb people trying to justify their own racism about how it is "unfair" Whoopi can make fun of people when this is not even whiteface to begin with.

Anyone who complains about this needs to take look at any painting of queen Elizabeth or just watch the 2 movies this performance is a reference to. She very much wore white makeup to make herself look really, really white.

The aristocracy of the period wore white-face. Just as others wore white powdered wigs. It's not racist to dress in period attire. Get over it.

Hineni John3:16 you’re comparing white chicks to more than 200 years of minstrel shows which were extremely prominent within anti black culture. Blackface (and many other tactics used to marginalize the early descendants of African American chattel slavery) was a direct result of anti black institutionalized racism... white chicks was a movie about two black men that go undercover as two of Hollywood’s rich bachelorettes. Although the creators decided to use whiteface and material white girl stereotypes, the creators have also created movies displaying stereotype more towards other demographics including woman, and black people, none of which were used to systematically oppress hundreds of thousands people like how blackface did... so the problem is that you either don’t know your history or you naturally have a biased opinion
