A word of caution to new PMR-30 owners having reliability issues , when you 1st get your weapon it will have far fewer loading issues if you clean & oil the weapon, the weapon also has a break in period which you can help along by working the slide a few hundred times before firing, the magazines loading method is important, its so important that Kel Tech put out an instructional video showing how to properly load the magazines , the mags springs are extremely tight & will feed much better if you take a paint stir stick & work the magazines springs a few hundred times, doing all of the above religously you shouldnt have any serious issues,BTW the reason its hard for him to load past 20 rounds is due to him pushing the rounds in improperly, watch the Kel Tech loading video & the 30th round will be as easy to pop in the mag as the 1st round .

Well you have to read again their instruction manual there cheese ball. The other guy says you have to sit there and play with the damn gun take a paint stick and work the spring a few thousand times and do this a few hundred times. I've never had another weapon that I've had just had to sit there and babysit a nurse made with all the feed and ejection problems and ammo that won't take which is not what I call low velocity of 1500 ft per second like a Winchester. A weapon that can only carry certain ammo and has to be baby like this it's kind of like the krx shotgun. I get one and it performs like s*** and somebody tells me from the US affiliate of this Turkish company that it's in the owners man I don't know it's not well it's on the box not to be found but they said that you have to run 100 rounds of turkey loads 3 in Magnum shells through the damn thing to break in the spring that's funny. I have a guy that's at a gun store over there and he uses them as a selling point he lets people just take him as long as you buy the ammo go test out the weapon two types of Turkish 12 gauge semi autos. and he says oh 800 rounds 1200 rounds yeah I'm still you know 900 a thousand rounds with no cleaning in between at all. Me mine fresh out of the box doesn't even get Jack or squat you try and run regular double up Buck it jams like a bastard. You try and run regular birdshot Winchester like the guys in the videos jams like a banshee the only thing it didn't jam on was high and loads that were 12 gauge they were two or three quarter inch shells but they were high high tilt boogie shells. And they would cough as well. The only thing that worked flawlessly of course was the hyper expensive 3-in or 3 1/2 in whatever it is Magnum turkey loads.

And for any of any weapon or any piece of machinery to work be considered reliable is that it needs to function every time you pull the trigger or damn near let's just say 90 to 95 points who wants to who wants a weapon that you have to you sure can't use for safety or defense because you don't know whether somebody's going to function. I've had Taurus everybody likes to blind Taurus they obviously have a problem because I have many of them and they perform flawlessly. There's no getting only this type of ammo or only that type of ammo like Celtic does with the PMR 30. They say three different manufacturers including Winchester oh it doesn't work well it does get the CCI well as we all know right now there ain't Jack or s*** for ammo not by accident either so what do you do oh well sorry I've got this gun I can't use anything but CCI or this brand or that brand. Of course first I got to take my butter knife and my paint stick to it and work 100 times the freaking magazines times extra magazines that you have if you bought properly and working the slide 100 times or more he says?? Yep that's reliability

I was thinking that a new magazine has a really tight spring and will soften a bit over time. My 30 round clip for my 10/22 Ruger would do the same thing when it was new. I just loaded 25 rounds, five rows and it's never failed me. If you have to fight the round to get it in, it's one too many. I'd rather have 27 dependable rounds in an emergency than thirty while worried about hearing this loud yet empty "Click"!

As with any rimfire, always make sure the rimmed “lip” of each subsequent round lies IN FRONT OF the previous round. If it gets behind it, it won’t feed properly. Also, MagLula makes a mag loader which helps making loading mags SO much easier.

100% correct. I own both a CMR30 and a PMR30. Both guns where dirty upon arrival. Clean a KelTec before you go shooting, I have had zero malfunctions. At first, you will only load your mags to 20 rounds, you'll dent the casings if you go further than that before you break the mags in. After you shoot them for a while, you will see you get a few more rounds in there until your able to get 30 rounds in there without too much struggle. Happy shooting, clean your KelTecs!

I love my pmr 30. Like many others I had to return it for warranty work. They replaced the barrel, slide and mag and had it back in about 2 weeks. The issue was frequent failure to fire. Now it works perfect, except you need to check carefully when you rack the slide to make sure the first round went into battery. Amazon has a guy now selling a speed loader that is expensive but works great. $34. The cheaper one was ok, but the better one works really well. It’s a great pistol. Edit: I should have noted that keltec only honors warranty to original purchaser. Keep in mind if you’re buying used and expecting free warranty work.

I decided pretty fast, that I would go with twenty five rounds, and I'm happy with the performance. I haven't had a misfeed or failure to eject, loading at twenty five rounds, and I have only shot CCI 40gr maxi mag through it. I don't know why so many people have reliability issues with this pistol, but it makes it hard to convince anybody of my results.

I did some searching. it seems that the feedramp is made of plastic and is not reliable after so many rounds. I have seen a video lately of the parts inside that go bad. 1. The feedramp - poorly designed, cheap plastic 2. slider buffer - looks like its cheaply made plastic. 3 Guide rod spring is not the best - not springy enough. I have looked at the original feedramp and two aftermaket ones made of stainless steel. All different designs. it seems the classic 2 notch configuration works best. Its the two notch configuration and arches that tapers allows the design of the bullet to load in. Different grains have slightly different designs and that could possbily be an issue. These aftermarket parts are sold seperately through a 3rd party manufacturer. Keltec uses a single notch style feedramp made of plastic that looks like the ramp is between 45 - 60 degrees with NO CURVES - only straight lines in angles. That could be the biggest issue with a shorter cartridge. This 3rd party MCarbo works with keltec to install these mods. MCarbo makes parts to reduce and midigate the malfucntions that the gun can produce. It looks like the pmr 30 is not the most reliable at has some serious issues after a while. to me it looks like the design of the feedramp is prone to failure and not the greatest design. The shape of the bullets would be my best guess as to why it is feeding like that and the fact that you have to load the bullets carefully

When I was finally able to, and trying different things , such as loading Mags, different ammo , super cleaning , still no good ,called Kel-Tec, they said /o send it back to them. When I got it back. It was basically a brand new gun . Shoots allot better . Still have failures but not as bad. The only ammo that has very few issues,(almost none) is CCI ammo. So I run CCI all the time. Fun gun!

Great video! I've had mine for a little over 2 yrs and about 500 rounds. The best thing when fresh out of the box, give it a good oil job and wipe down. They are in need of good lube. I use Amsoil gun oil lube and spray. Second....run the first 3 mags between 20 to 25 rounds. The springs are a little stiff. I also let the mags sit fully loaded for about 2 weeks to weaken the springs a little. She runs smooth with any thing I feed her now.

This thing does have a little bit of a longer barrel, but accurate at 25 yards is still really good for this firearm. I rarely even try shooting that far with my 26 or 18. I could probably reach those ranges, but I normally only practice at 15yds or less, for self defense purposes. My local range finally upgraded and installed 5 500yd alleys, so its been fun trying to reach that with my .308 and .300 win mag. Still haven't had enough time, I'm happy when I hit paper.

Notice how when he shows both fully loaded magazines one mag had the 30th round to the left while the 2nd mags 30th round was to the right ? That shows improper mag loading, when you load the mag properly your final 30th rounds bullet should be on the Right side if your looking at the bullet from the front of the magazine, or on the left if your facing the rear of the magazine , it makes a huge difference, keeping your rounds to the proper side of the magazine totally eleminates the round having problems feeding & chambering the next round.

@@michaelledford4751 yeah.. These problems shouldn't be a thing with any fire arm .. If the magazine is this much of a problem for the gun then they have a bad design. To me it seems like the issue isn't the magazine though.. I would grind down and buff up the slide ramp. I would probably replace the guide rod spring with a slightly lighter one. Hopefully doing both of those things would fix both the failure to chamber and the failure to extract the rounds. It could very well be the extractor too. So possibly may need to file the crimp on the extractor down. The tiniest bit... But either way this gun seems like a complete p.o.s. I wouldn't own it. Try out the Makershot PMR-30 mag loader (~$12). It pushes each round down and to the side that it's supposed to go to as well as taking decades off loading up. Like you it took me forever to load by hand but the Makershot does it correctly which results in a fantastic and fun experience. I have 2 newer PMR-30's and use Armscor 40grn. JHP which is the cheapest ammo I can find for .22mag and they both run extremely well... the PMR-30 likes a heavier bullet for sure (I believe the manual states to use 40gr. and above but then again it mentions nothing about Armscor). I can't remember the last time I had an issue of any kind with either. Well... just one, it's very hard to not go through a 30rd. mag in seconds because it has almost zero muzzle rise and is pinpoint accurate out to 50yds. easy. I consistently hit a 16" steel target, off hand at 100yds. too.

If any one here is a ballistics snob start watching the different gels test being done . The 22 wmr is a very powerful round. 40 grain 1950 fps round will give 2A body armor a helluva scare . Makes for a very good carry round in the PMR30 , hollow point of course.

Ronald Wells's comment sums it up. Sure other suggestions made make sense too but the manual specifically warns about performance issues with rounds under 40grns .i been shooting mostly maxi mag JHP in mine with no hiccups yet 1000+ rounds so it's not that your FMJs work better hollow points feed fine if they are 40grain. Your 45grain loads were just a weird length.

I'm a 72 year old businessman and have been a permitted legal CCL license holder for 50 years and have carried about every type, brand and high dollar pistol you can imagine during that time. The best advice I can give to anybody who does the same is to carry what best satisfies these requirements....low recoil, cheap to train with, plentiful ammo at low prices, light weight, fast and accurate to shoot. That just eliminated every centerfire pistol on the market! What do I carry? I carry a pair of Ruger LCP2 22 rimfires. One in a Bugbite holster on my left leg and the other in my right back pocket. I also carry one of these PMR30s under my left arm under a vest. All are fitted with green daylight lasers! The PMR30 must be modified with the M Carbo parts kit and you need to buy a $35 American speed loader for it. I shoot only quality 40 grain ammo in all of these. The PMR does not function reliably with any 30 grain ammo! The best load for it is Aguia 40 grain solid. It is loaded in a nickel plated case that resists denting when you fast load 30 round mags. I own lots of pistols and shotguns, but over the years I almost always shoot rimfires including killing well over 100 deer and numerous over 10 foot alligators with rimfire rifles. I am perfectly comfortable with nothing but rimfires. I shoot everything in the head! My favorite rifle is a Marlin Model 57M short throw lever action Carbine(16 inch barrel) in 22 Magnum. They are extremely rare, expensive and accurate when fitted with a quality 4X12 scope and will shoot dead up with a new CZ 512 22 Magnum Auto. That little Savage bolt rifle you have is the best one for the buck out there!

I own both the PMR 30 AND CMR 30 ... when reading the enclosed booklet it tells you to use 35 grain or higher . After 800 rounds thru the PMR and using only 40 , 45 and 52 grain it is completely reliable. I use CCI and Federal without incident . 5his has now become my Conceal Carry. I have had my PMR 30 for almost 2 years now. I have never had a failure to feed or failure to eject. I have not done any special cleaning or tuning on the gun at all. I did buy the specific PMR 30 Auto loader and it makes loading a breeze. I only shoot CCI Maxi mags has the factory has recommended and many other people doing their blogs have found to be the best load. I hope this review doesn't discourage people because it seems a little bit unfair. I am not a gunsmith but just enjoy pistols and this gun is great fun and absolutely reliable. Due to the weight I use it as an everyday carrier sometimes. My sig 9 mm is much shorter and smaller but actually much heavier. I think there's an awful lot to be said for the power of the 22 mag and having 30 rounds available. I do realize that this round has about 1/2 to stopping power of a 9 mil, but I also can carry more than three times as much ammo in the one magazine. Carrying a second mag which way is very little now gives you 60 rounds. How much do you need to stop something or someone. I find mine to be extremely accurate and The recoil is minimal.

I personally love the keltec guns. I have owned 8 pmr30s. Currently own 4 and 1 cmr30. To many mags to remember, lol. (When I sold or traded 4, I kept one mag each.) it's very selective on ammo. Heavier bullet (rounder nose) and faster speed works best, I've found. And they recommend. Fully loaded, the gun weights about a pound. So when I carry, I also have 2 extra mags. That's a total of 90 rounds and gun under 2 lbs. You forget you even have it on you.

I just fired my new PMR 30. I loaded 30 rounds of CCI Maximag 40 grain bullets into one mag and 30 rounds of the Hornady Speer Gold Dot 40 grain short barrel load into the other. Both fired flawlessly. I mixed up the next mag between the Gold Dots and the CCIs and all fired perfectly. Before I tested the PMR, I disassembled it and lubed it. It looked pretty dry as it came from the factory. I plan on sticking with the Speer Gold Dots and use the CCIs if can't find the Speer ammo. The Speer ammo has a large hollow point and I was apprehensive it wouldn't feed, but it worked great. I used a Maglula loader, but did load one mag with 30 rounds by hand. I don't recommend hand loading over 25 rounds. A fun pistol to shoot!

That's the point I made in another comment on here. I don't just take a factory shipped gun load it and go shoot it because I don't know the conditions at the factory I mean granted there's going to be some really shitty lubricant in it and it's going to be filthy. I take my firearms home doesn't matter what they are totally strip them down completely flawlessly clean them and lubricate them then only then do I take them out to see how they fire. And I keep them spotless I have a bit of OCD when it comes to Firearms so whether I put 10 rounds through it or a thousand it's going to get cleaned the same time every time I'm done. I do this because a friend of mine God rest his soul he didn't he never cleaned his shit and he's dead now. When he needed it to fire it didn't. One bullet went down range and then it jammed you could say it was a catastrophic jam too. I don't know the details of it but he wasn't able to recover fast enough. Since then especially if I'm out in public my firearms are flawless as far as the cleanliness and proper lubrication. people tell me you don't have to clean it like that man it's all good you don't have to do that yeah I get I don't have to do that but I lost a really close friend who never did it. And I'm just not going to take that risk. Ever. Granted I'm also raising four of my five daughters alone so yeah they all stay flawless because when I need them to go boom especially protecting my babies they damn well better. 🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸

WMF is not WMR. The 22WRF IIRC is a .226" caliber vs the 22WMR at .224", plus the case difference that you noted. Very similar but not the same.
@CaptainSeamus
@CaptainSeamus 5 жыл бұрын
negative. Both are .224" which is larger than .22LR, and they are able to be used on some .22mag rifles - but they will do the same as .22 shorts in a .22lr - they will eventually scrape lead foul the front of the chamber into the barrel. His on camera experience was what I noticed in trying some .22 WRF hand cycling in my new PMR30. Cycle 1 or 2 and then jam up because the cartridge is too short. Fortunately, I have an old Model 12 Remington in .22WRF (or .22 Remington Special) which is why I have boxes of that ammo laying around.

I bought a PMR 30 2 years ago. It was awesome to shoot. Although I had FTF issues every 10 rounds. Last month sent gun to Kel Tec and they fixed it by “updating the magazines and replacing the slide.” And had it back to me in a week and a half. Have ran like 600 rounds of many different brands and grains of .22 mags with 0 issues. It’s amazing and a VERY special firearm. I LOVE it. My favorite round to date is the CCI WMR 30 grain. They are the loudest and breathe fire! However, I would never feel comfortable carrying a rimfire firearm for protection. Rimfire just isn’t as reliable as centerfire. Great video.. I’ve read that 40 and 45 grain work great with this gun. They work fine but are very slow and weak feeling compared to the 30 grain. I was most disappointed in the 45 grain.

The 22 mag was designed for a bolt or lever action rifle. A semi auto pistol has too short of a barrel and a large portion of the gun powder burns outside the barrel hence the fireball and incomplete cycling of the slide. Lighter the bullet bigger the flash as the bullet is moving so fast. The cheap federals are inadequate for a semi auto as there not hot enough and again incomplete cycling of the slide and jams. The hotter the load and heavier the bullet the better they will work in the pistol. I've had best results from CCI maxi mag ammo.

I see a few issues with the "fail to feed" issues. I'm going to write off the fail to eject to chance and rim fire ammo issues but the fail to feeds were for 1) the feed ramp probably isn't polished. 2)the energy stored in the brand new springs in the mags put so much pressure on the round it gets hung up because it's too "preloaded" with that spring. 3) polymer slide on a polymer frame, there's no "lube" to speak of. metal on metal with oil would be best but in this case maybe some dry lube like graphite would help. Polish that feed ramp, break in the mag springs and i think you'll be fine. I know it's not your gun but this is for the readers... great job on the vid, Kel-Tec does do some crazy stuff and no all of it is super successful but most of it is...

I'm a couple years tardy on this one. I didn't see any other comments referencing this, so I had to comment. 22 WRF (Winchester Rimfire) is not 22 WMR (magnum) ammo. It's the parent cartridge. Same concept as 22 short and 22lr. It will work well in revolvers and reasonably well in bolt/lever guns. It is shorter and lower power so it's not suitable for most semi-automatics. Sorry if I am repeating something that's already been discussed.

Oh, I feel bad now. I posted something similar before I sorted the comments for "Most Recent" and scrolled down and saw this. Exactly correct, though.

I purchased a PMR 30 several years ago, absolutely love it Actually used it to qualify for my C.W.P. Instructor was suprised that someone could use this weapon to qualify for C.W.P. class He asked if I had another gun, I replied Absolutely, Then he asked why then use a PMR 30 with all the bad issues to qualify replied to prove that could be done I replied, YOU MUST LOAD MAGAZINE PROPERLY AND USE A MINIMUM OF 40 GRAIN BULLET, AS SUGGESTED IN THE MANUAL As much as I love my PMR 3O, my EDC is a FNSC 9mm, due to the 22 mag bullet is NOT good for EDC due to the thin casing, however still absolutely fun to shoot

I had 2 FTF the first 50 rds I shot out of mine. Polished the feed ramp. Runs flawless now. Have fired around 500 rds now. Shoots like a champ. I’ve shot plastic tips, HPs, and round nose. One of my favorite pistols.

New gun. I'm curious if it needs a break in period. Still with it being that new I wouldn't think it would have that many issues.

The mags need time to load easily when new. New ones are dry and need to be cleaned before shooting. First bunch of rounds grahpite cover till the gun broke in and it is fine. Kel Tec recommends CCI.

I sent mine back to get all their metal parts such as feed ramp and trigger. It’s a new pistol , shoots a tactic. Been shooting CCI ad ad Aguila . Mine was an early model. Magazines broke in by leaving them loaded and brushing by hand super fine sand paper. PS they have a nice loader , i only put around 20. I believe ALL semi auto have break in period , rifle and shotgun.
