Hogan said Sting wasn't ready because he "wasn't tanned." Why would a guy doing a gimmick where he lives in the dark and hides in the rafters be tanned?
@sdd619 Жыл бұрын
The Nick Patrick interview was interesting. Bischoff tried to put all the blame on Hogan, but then Nick Patrick just flat out says Bischoff told him to do a normal count. As well as Hogan.
@jackoneill842 Жыл бұрын
What they really can't say (because their trying to protect Steve Borden) is that he came into the arena depressed/cynical/disinterested and unprepared to play his character....He had a "lets get this over with" attitude and Hulk saw that right away. Hulk knew the match was going to suck and he was going to have to "lay down and die" to a guy who didn't want to be there and wasn't going to look strong....Indeed Hulk's ego insisted on writing a "back-door" into the match, whereby, Hulk could overshadow the victory with controversy....but all this comes down to horrible mismanagement by Bischoff, for not realizing that the guy who was supposed to be the "hero" was too downtrodden in his personal-life, to deliver a great ending.
@sdd619 Жыл бұрын
@jackoneill842 Yeah, I don't buy that one. Especially from Bischoff, who I don't trust to tell the truth based on that interview. Did Sting arrive in a bad mood? Sure, maybe he came with the notion that he knew he was going to be screwed over in the finish. WCW was highly political with Hogan & Bischoff.
@VirgilBoyd-t1g Жыл бұрын
Hogan did the same thing at Mania 6. He counted a slow three count on warrior when the ref was "out". I don't think the Starcade thing had much of anything to do with Sting or his skin shade as it did Hogan getting the win.

I freely admit that before WHW, I thought Tony was a complete d bag. I thought he didn't actually like or respect wrestling because of how awful he was those last few years in WCW, and he never showed any personality. Now? WHW is the show I love the most, and it's 100% because of Tony. He's just a nice fucking dude, flat out. So glad he got the comeback he deserved. I had him pegged completely wrong. Hope he's around for a long fucking time.

I love comments like this. I've always really liked Tony since my teens. Could nvr explain it. JR was more edgy and had standout traits, Heenan was funny n I'm a comedy nerd, Lawler had it all but I loved Tomy Schiavone's presence n voice over all the others. I didn't like people shitting on him for all those years since 2001 but I couldn't defend him cuz I didn't know much about tbe real guy. But like you, I'm happy he got this comeback and allowed people to see the.cool, funny and good person he is.Im a Schiavone Fucking Guy. This Tony n Conrad combo is something special. Thanks for this comment and enjoy your day, brother.

People change. He probably was a dhead back then. He doesn't really have anything to protect (later in life), so he's let that act go. I'm sure Heenan had cause for disliking him. This Schiavone would have gotten on with that Heenan like a house on fire.

The Starrcade main event should have been Sting not only going over clean, but in a quasi squash match, It could have set up a Hogan face turn, and an end of the nWo, which was at its logical end. Thankfully Hogan was there to politic. Bischoff can waffle all he wants, but the buck stops with him, and he allowed the saggy orange emergency brake to be pulled on a juggernaut.

Tony whaddya mean "we shouldn't have talked about or referenced the Montreal Screwjob"?! It was key to Bret's character, and directly led to him even being in WCW. It made him the hottest topic in all of wrestling at the time, and WCW immediately threw a bucket of water on him. Obviously Sting being champ is the top story, but Bret should've immediately been put into the mix at the top of the card / title picture.

Dear Conrad, can you please work on mixing the sound volume levels better, your mic is consistently much louder than your guests on your various shows. I just want to say that no PPV in history has made me more angry. It made everyone involved look terrible. It made Sting look weak that he couldn't win without controversy. It made the announce team look like liars for trying to sell the fans on a fast count. It made Bret Hart look like an idiot for jumping into the ending after being screwed in his last match. My favorite part was when Tenay broke character on the three count and shouts "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!?!" I think that was a genuine reaction. It wasn't just the end, although that was the worst part. The whole show sucked. And everything after it sucked. WCW could not stop failing after Starrcade.

Brett had no business joining the nWo. It should of been him, sting, Goldberg and DDP defeating the nWo in war games 98 to finally end the war...You could take hogan off tv for some months and he return in 99 back as the red/yellow....you could keep Nash and hall as the Wolfpack tag team....start fresh new feuds, rebuild the tag and cruiserweight divisions

Hogan is known around the world, Austin not so much. Hogan IS wrestling, as he and you two said, like it or not, that's the truth. P.S.; Marty Jannetty needs some serious help.. also Stings theme at that time was freaking great Conrad.
@CharlesBronson19772 жыл бұрын
Unless you were young enough to see Hogan's run in the 80's, you can't even fathom how huge his impact was on wrestling. I laugh when people try to put Austin on the level of Hogan. It's not even close. Go back and watch the first 8 Wrestlemanias, as well as every Saturday Night Main Event until 1990. There is no bigger name in the history of professional wrestling, and that includes Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels. WHAT 'CHA GONNA DO!!!

WCW built both Lugar and Giant up and the fan reaction to both was great in 1997 but then they cooled off both by having lugar win and then immediately lose the belt to hogan and having the Giant turn heel and rejoin the nWo. WCW built sting up over nearly 2 years then ruined him within months having Nick Patrick not fast count at Starrcade, then having Sting lose to Savage and then hogan immediately reclaims the belt and just like that, sting became just like everyone else. The whole 2 year angle was a big waste. Everything went back to status quo. Built DDP up then wasted him with tag matches with Karl Malone and Jay Leno. That was the pinnacle of DDP’s career. They built Goldberg up then as always, didn’t know what to do with him after putting the belt on him so had Nash kill his run. Bret always gripes that WCW didn’t know what to do with him and he’s correct, but in all fairness, WCW didn’t know what to do with anyone. A perfect example is the nWo not having a proper ending. Book a match and always end in run-ins. They never ever knew what to do next. They could have an initial idea, but if asked, “ok, but then what”, they never had a clue.

The flaws in all of Conrad's podcasts is that the wrestling personalities talking about events from 20 years ago can't possibly remember how everything was back then. So they can't really give accurate assessments on some situations. It makes it that much harder when they are jumping around through different years instead of following in chronological order. Tony says that it was a mistake for WCW to do a rematch the next night but the WWF was doing the same thing all the time. He says that Starrcade 97 was the beginning of the downfall but how can that be when ratings didn't decrease at all and got even bigger after that. I'm sure people were disappointed with the finish but it wasn't enough to turn them away from the product and I'm pretty sure those who were disappointed were in the minority especially since more people watched the shows than they did the ppvs back then.
@Alphonzo3162 жыл бұрын
I would imagine Tony would know about WCW going down the tubes after Starrcade ‘97. He was there. Yes, the ratings were still good, but the WWF overtook WCW the next year because WCW ran out of steam.
@blueblur22732 жыл бұрын
@@Alphonzo316 One would imagine until one actually looks at the facts and to say that Starrcade 97 was the beginning of their downfall when they had their best year in 98 makes no sense. They didn't start declining in viewership until late 98 early 99.

He also directly led to two of the worst periods in wrestling the 99-2000 WCW (bash at the beach fiasco) and the early 90’s steroid stuff. Not to mention turning on Ventura as a shoot when Jesse was trying to unionize. So, yes big pops but ultimately left the industry in worse shape then when he found it
