Well this was the first show I watched by you and it made me an instant fan! Besides agreeing with everything said here in the video to me this is on of the queerest shows I've ever watched in my life. Another breakthrough for this show was the portrayal of Mae by Jennie. Sadly Thailand, like much of the world, values light skinned people. You will notice all GMM actors are of a certain shade. The Idolo commercial has them at their whitest. Anyway, Jennie is one of the few dark skinned actors who have made breakthroughs in Thai society. She is very popular in her talkshow role and here she portrays a very strong character. That's one of the other forward movements 3 Will be Free has made.

WOW this comment is spot on. When I talk about three will be free again (because I most definitely will), I'm for sure going to bring up the colorism aspect of the show because it is so, so important. Like you said, it's very rare that a dark skinned actor/actress is given a main role, much less a protagonist role. Thank you for commenting!

This drama blew my mind in a way that I didn’t even know was possible. If I had a word to describe it, it would be ‘experimental’. Experimental because this show deals with things that are still not very shown on Thai medias or even taboo nowadays (prostitution, changing sex surgery...). I freaking loved the fact that every single character is gray, they have all done mistakes, they are all flawed. But one of the thing I enjoyed the most about it is definitively the dynamic between the 3 main protagonists, the fact that it wasn’t really a love triangle, they weren’t rivals or anything, at the end, they all loved together. I really don’t like peoples saying things like ‘shin was always left out’ because for me, it wasn’t the case and the main focus of this drama wasn’t even the romance. And yeah, the fact that this drama is actually so not my style and I still loved it this much clearly shows how good it is. Masterpiece.

I really feel sad for a lot of BL actors. People like Tay Tawan, Singto, Mix and Gun are such great actors but are frequently boxed into being limited to fetshized characters. What is worse is reception and attitude of the audience itself. No matter how beautiful and deep a scene is, the expectation is to lay a foreplay for a sensual kiss.

So true. This is the first time I saw bisexual representation done so well! It was an emotional time for many people. I went in and saw the show blind. I saw a lot of comments disliking the ménage especially when they all kiss but it was really fulfilling to see this subject addressed (along with the emotional aspect of it). I was so excited about this show but sadly people still get weirded out when they know you watch and like it.

ngl i started watching this show simply because it came up in a list of shows that depict polyamory and i was specifically looking for that at the time. but i didnt expect the show to completely blow me away. everything about its story, the characters and the cinematography took me by surprise. so much thought was put into this series and it shows. your video is probably the first time im hearing someone dissect (?) the show and it truly feels earned. you’re just so articulate, its a joy to listen to.

3 Will Be Free is one of my absolute favorite shows of all time and I so deeply appreciate this brilliant analysis you put together! One of the many aspects of the series I appreciate is that, unlike a lot of other Thai shows I've seen, opulence and wealth are not ubiquitous, uncommented parts of the backdrop, with everyone just seeming to live in large houses, drive fancy cars, etc. Shin is the only central character who lives with the advantages of wealth, and they actively address this inequity without allowing it to prevent Miw or Neo from accepting and loving Shin, who also grows up in the ways you so eloquently described. I'm very glad to have discovered your channel - I'm looking forward to listening to future analyses of yours!

This show was how I got my daughter to start watching Thai shows period! She saw it and she fell in so deep. I loved this show with my soul. But also I love Tawan so much and he was how I got to this show. But I watched and was not disappointed!

This made me see the series in a different light and make me think if I should re-watch the series. To be honest I just wanted to see Tay Tawan and check if his acting has improved (or his ability to make a character come alive). Nice thoughts on 3 will be free not only applies to Neo, Mew and Shin, but to Mae's trio as well. Also the part where Shin and Mae are opposite, these wouldn't come to mind. Careful on copyrights. Your style on adding clips from the original content is risky. Though admittedly as a viewer I would want to see which part of the content your voice over is referring to.

@ Pastellyn I agree,, Accept I diddn't like the other male charachter PP .. I think they should have just left the relationship with the 3 main charaters Miw, Shin and Neo the throuple Idea I liked alot.. he became a fourth party and the relationship between the 3 of them in the end felt lacking because of it.. maybe it's just me.. but that's how I felt .. but if you skip that .. I really enjoyed this drama and the action and the relationship between the 3 off them..

This is a really well-done video essay, but I am afraid I will avoid this show thanks to it (as you mentioned, "not my cup of tea"). And not because I think your video is bad, I get your love and passion for this piece of media and how good it is. But for me, fictional media is mostly an escape from reality, not a reminder or social commentary on it. I watch to get some sun on my cloudy days, some happy-endings where there are barely none, and a glimpse of romantic love stories that may not be /realistic/ but that make my heart feel full and hopeful. Definitely not a story with unrequited love, and "you don't always get what you want" themes for the main character. As valuable as they are for some people, they only make me feel miserable and sour.

Spoiler: But it has a happy ending though?! The love does not stay unrequited. The story was gripping and it didn't feel like a social commentary. The lessons are hidden here and there which were noticed by the reviewer in this video. P.S. If you don't want to watch the whole thing, just watch Episode 5 which is a throwback episode and gives vibes of a standalone movie. You won't regret it!

@@LittleDream99 I was just trying to reply to your statement. Sorry if it came across as something else. Basically the plot doesn't revolve around their love stories so it's difficult to point out exactly when his love was requited. Maybe just after a few episodes? It's hard to say. But the other character had feelings for him all along and he cared for him, he went as far as risking his life for him, so yeah he loved him. By the way this drama has polyamory- towards the end the 3 of them get freed of their circumstances and are in love with each other. So if this is something that you won't like, then you can skip it 👍
