@@briansearles4473 Me too for some game. But it’s just not legal in some states that call for a “straight walled cartridge.” Buying a .35 Remington or .30-30 in those states for hunting would be pointless, as they can’t be used. So that’s why people are going toward the 350 Legend. Personally, I prefer a .44magnum lever gun in states that don’t allow necked down cartridges. Most of the time, my .45-70 is just too big here in the lower 48.

I love the idea of the .360 Buckhammer, but what i reallt want to see is Henry & Marlin building an up-to-date high pressure .375 Win./ 38-55 that'll handle a 220 gr. bullet at 2450 - 2500 fps. Another one id like to see making a comeback is the .405 Win with a 250 gr load!

Thanks for asking the question that’s been on a lot of peoples minds. I can see the reasoning, kudos to Remington for stepping out. I am glad they are committed to the 35 Rem, it’s a great round. I have plenty of brass and may look to pick up some more just in case. I think the thing that excites me the most is that the 360 will hopefully prompt some new options in 358 diameter bullets. I have used both the 200gr FTX and the 180gr Speer quite a bit, but I hope they make the 180gr corelokt available as a component bullet.

Buckhammer will also work a bit better than Legend in single shots. Extractor for rimmed cartridge can have straight travel; extractor for rimless/rebated needs some wiggle up and down, and that wiggle needs to be controlled for it to work.

I have been reloading for my 336 in 35 Rem for years. First choice bullet wise for me is the 180 grain Speer. Second choice is the 220 grn Speer. Given the difference in case lengths between the 35 Rem and the 360 Buckhammer means reloading bullets won't be interchangeable between the two. What worries me is that companies such as Sierra and Speer will start making .358 cal bullets with the crimping grove positioned for the shorter 360 case over the now obsolete 35 Rem case? It will be interesting to see how much longer Henry continues to chamber the 35 Rem now that they have "jumped on board" with the new 360 Buckhammer?

Henry doesn't need to keep chambering the cartridge, because you can buy others. You just need the ammo manufacturers to keep making the ammo. In the end, if our rifles survive long enough, we'll just have them rebarreled.

That .360 Buckhammer sounds like a promising cartridge, even though the Winchester .350 Legend is already out there and is a great hunting cartridge. I wish Henry lever, made one and not single shot. Pretty interested in this. We have several .35 Remington in the family but can't find ammo for them anymore. The .35/.30-30 wildcat has been around for a while. The main drawback of this, I think, will be that the 350 Legend can be used in a MSR so... yeah. In my main hunting state, we can use .35cal or larger in single shot, exposed hammer, breech loading rifles for "primitive weapons" season. I've been using .35 Whelen but prices have gone up a lot and ammo is hard to find because it isn't a MSR chambered round. I've been thinking of the 350 Legend because I can actually find ammo for it on the shelves locally, even though it's weaker than the .35 Remington. The 360 Buckhammer sounds ideal, to be honest, but ammo availability will be my ultimate decider.

I’ve looked up information on the new 360 buck hammer I personally think it’s just something that they’re throwing out there again just stimulate business, keep in mind this is just my opinion. PS. I have an original 35 Remington made in 1952 and I would not mind getting a new rifle chambered in 35 Remington, but that’s as far as it goes. ! 👍. JUST TO BE CLEAR , I realize that the 360 BUCKHAMMER was not made to replace the 35 REMINGTON and that the 360 is a straight walled cartridge !

I think you and the people that liked your post need to watch the video again, this time using the Closed Captions. They both explained that the 360 Buckhammer cartridge was NOT to replace the .35 Remington cartridge. The new 360 Buckhammer is meant to be used in U.S. States that demand hunting be done with a straight-wall cartridge. {As shown by the display booth enlarged cartridge, rather a bottleneck style.} Some U.S. States only allow straight walled cartridges for hunting (usually Deer) because there are several towns and cities and farms near the places that Deer like to feed and sleep and live in/at. The Fish & Game Departments (Some States call it D.N.R. now) in the various States do not want humans to be accidently shot when some bad marksman misses a deer (often termed "Buck Fever"), and the stray bullet winds up hitting a house, car, school two miles away. High Velocity bottleneck cartridge bullets can travel many miles. {A .22 long rifle rimfire bullet can travel a mile.} Bottleneck cartridges such as the tried and true .30-06 Springfield and the .35 Reminton are "Bottleneck" style brass cases, therefore they hold more gun powder and the bullet travels farther. A Straight Wall cartridge case holds less gun powder so the bullet will not travel as far. For example: The famous and versatile .22 Long Rifle rimfire cartridge with a 40-grain bullet has a muzzle velocity of 1,150 feet per second. The bottleneck case .22 Hornet centerfire with a 40-grain bullet has a muzzle velocity of about 2,765 feet per second. Some U.S. States (New Jersey comes to mind, and for decades, neighboring Pennsylvania) allow ONLY Shotguns for hunting. Shotgun slugs or "Buck Shot" ammunition because those projectiles do not travel as far. Other U.S. States have different rules depending on which County you might be hunting in. If near towns or cities, then it is Archery, Muzzleloader rifles or Shotguns, and some places, Straight wall cartridges. If a hunter violates the rules / regulations, depending on the State or Federal land he is hunting on, he could be arrested by the Game Warden / County Sheriff / Forest Ranger and have his firearm taken away and even jailed, and probably fined $$$. I like the idea of a new rimmed cartridge. They chamber and eject well and work fine in Lever-actions and single-shot break-action and double barrel rifles. Since .358 caliber bullets are available then the new 360 Buckhammer seems like a good idea for cartridge reloaders. If you and other readers what more cartridge information, then get a copy of "Cartridges of The World". I have two editions (Purchased used on E-bay) written by Frank Barnes and edited by John Amber. Mr. Barnes and Mr. Amber are gone now, but I imagine somebody else has compiled a newer edition. U.S.A., British, European, Scandinavian and other cartridges. Civilian and military listings are covered with a short history of obsolete and modern cartridges, both centerfire and rimfire.

For those of us who might already know this, the parent casing for the .30-30 (also known as .30 WCF) has been the original .38-55 which is a straight wall cartridge. While I know the usage of that cartridge is probably solidly in the status of "obsolete" by dictionary definition, it's still being made in modern Winchester 94 actions, still being made by Winchester ammunition, HSM, and a maybe a couple others. The only brand I've seen that give it a boost is Buffalo Bore. It's a .377-.378 caliber which is a little odd, as compared to the extremely available .358 caliber (the new 360 Buckhammer). Is there a cartridge overall length restriction involved in the reason the .38-55 shouldn't just get some attention instead of necking that case to .358? I'm sure the 360 is going to be running respectable pressures compared to the .38-55 (or the subsequent .375 which died off while the original stayed).

George, really good interview. I like the way you kinda force an answer of them lol. I often wondered about the mindset of politicians in these "straight-wall" states that come up with these kind of rules. I mean, really !! A 30-30 is illegal, but the same cartridge in a strait wall design that's 300fps faster is legal? Will never understand the reasoning but here's the thing; it will not surprise me to hear about more and more states inflicting these rules on hunters to reduce the use of other firearms (AR platforms for instance). I figure its part of the gun grab that's going on.

The 360 Buck Hammer is a 35 Remington killer ONLY if the shooting public is ignorant. That could be the true. The 360 Buck Hammer exists because of some states hunting regulations on firearms exist. The 360 Buck hammer operates at a much higher chamber pressure compared to other cartridges used in the Winchester 94 and Marlin/Ballard design lever actions. Remington did not even used a full length 30-30 case for added ballistic performance because of state laws. If the 35 Remington operated at the same pressure as 360 Buck Hammer , it would smoke it. It would be close to the great under rated 358 Winchester which has about the killing power of a 30-06. We are degenerating from government control.

The market isn't going to boom for this cartridge if it's only chambered in Henry rifles. If Henry can't market this effectively, it will die off quickly. I get why they're doing this. You can't just discount the straight wall market because it's only a few states. Those states happen to have some of the highest hunter numbers in the US, and they needed something to capture some of the 450BM and 350LGND market. I will probably pick one of these up for MI and IL where I deer hunt. Ballistically this round is as good or better than a 30-30, so I don't know why some of these states don't just approve that and make it easy on all of us.

Very good informative video George. Enjoyed getting filled in on the new cartridge. I do feel bold move in the face modern conventional thought. Glad to see thinking like that. One thing that puzzles me regarding all these straight walled case rules is some states were very specific for quite awhile about calibers of handguns that we were allowed to hunt deer with years ago. Then this straight walled idea came changing to rifles from simply our slug guns. Which I’m all for. What the point here is why wouldn’t the game divisions simply specify 30-30 Win or 35 Remington and the multitude of other bottleneck cartridges as being legal also. Especially when we are developing straight wall cartridges that rival many of these older cartridges performance? Surely it is not for the safety level once thought to be of major concern by not allowing rifles in populated area. They could start with five of our older lever action cartridges specifically and see how it goes. Your thoughts?

Many people are asking about new calibers like this, or 30SC, why now? The fact is, these have probably been in development and testing for a few years. They might have started developing this in 2018 or 2019 having no idea what the world was getting ready to unleash on the economy and the world of ammunition. If they've already sunk a significant amount of R&D into the project, no sense backing out. Might as well finish the task, put it on the market and see what the world makes of it.
