Yes, the ball's in Nintendo's court this time, and like never before! - Publishers' gamble on current consoles is not paying dividends. - They can't use excuses like "kiddy console," "lack of popularity," or "Nintendo's base doesn't buy 3rd-party games" anymore. Bad games on any console won't pay out, and that's the state of the AAA games industry at the moment. The Switch 2 doesn't magically fix that. Furthermore, we have yet to see the price of the Switch 2, it isn't an OLED screen which I can't believe, and we don't really know if it's capable because modern programming sucks compared to what came before. Even Nintendo couldn't get their games to run well on the Switch; what makes you think that 3rd parties will put in the effort for the Switch 2? It'd be one thing if the Switch 2 WAS a PS4 that devs could literally just re-release games for. But it isn't. Having the power of a PS4 doesn't change the fact that the games still have to be ported to different hardware. It takes time and money. It also assumes that people want old games at full price in the name of portability. IF, and it's a BIG IF, the Steam deck, ROG Ally, and other portables didn't exist, then I'd argue that maybe Nintendo was in a perfect spot at this point in time. That isn't the case at all. I can get those same older third party games, with better graphics and framerates, for less money on a more flexible device. The newer 3rd party stuff will play better as well. Why would anyone spend $400+ (and we don't know the price yet) on a Switch 2, if their primary goal is to play 3rd party titles? They wouldn't. I own a Switch. You know what I use it for? Nintendo games. I've got a handful of games that make sense for the system like Castlevania Advance Collection. I but games like that because they are dirt cheap when they go on sale, it gives me the option to play on the television, and it can be played on a handheld like they were originally offered. But even then, that may as well have been a Nintendo exclusive. So it's right back to using my Switch for Nintendo games. Any 3rd party game that isn't exclusive to the Switch is purchased for my PS5 or laptop. With the potential price of the Switch 2 being higher than the Switch launched at, in a bad economy, Nintendo NEEDS to have STELLAR EXCLUSIVES to pull someone like me away from a Steam Deck. The Nintendo fanboys are jumping the ship before we've even reached the dock. 😂

People have always downplayed how important 3rd party support is for Nintendo consoles. They always say "people buy Nintendo consoles only for Nintendo games," not realizing that every successful Nintendo console has had extensive major 3rd party support. Historically, there aren't enough Nintendo diehards willing to buy every Nintendo console regardless of 3rd party support. All Nintendo systems that lacked that support sold poorly. I'd also like to point out that Xbox Series sales in North America remain pretty close to PS5. And since North America is the largest video game market, it still behooves devs to put their games on that console. Only saying that as a reminder, as many people only think of global units sold. It's why MS insists on continuing to make more Xbox hardware. They have a large market in the US, and it would be silly to just throw that aside because Japanese & European sales are well behind PS5.

One major third party I know that need to go hard on the Nintendo Switch 2 is Square Enix. They need it after going through a horrible generation of mismanagement and some very expensive flops. The Switch 2 is their best shot at reversing the Final Fantasy decline in Japan if the mainline games start showing up day 1 on the platform.

Not that easy though. Nintendo, as a traditional Japanese company, only maintains a privileged relationship with partners that it trusts. Square Enix knows that they used to be such a privileged partner, and that they have squandered that trust when they decided to abandon Nintendo for Playstation. It's going to take a lot of time and dedication (as well as a good amount of groveling) for Square Enix to rebuild that broken relationship.

I still have my doubts but I do think it would be ideal for Nintendo to be the defacto platform for 3rd parties, then games get scaled up or optimized for other platforms. Instead of ps5 first then everything else second. It would force budgets to reduce and force developers to stop focusing on graphics. It probably would also improve optimization on the whole, since the main platform would be weakest.

I agree with this video. The Nintendo Switch 1 sold like gangbusters and no major 3rd party developer nor publisher aside from a few smaller Japanese 3rd party developers saw that coming. The Switch 2 however has a lot of momentum that was left from the original Switch’s massive success. I think a lot of major 3rd parties realize they made a big mistake for not supporting the Switch 1 early on but this time they’ll put forth their best efforts on supporting the Switch 2. With a majority of major western and Japanese 3rd parties rumored to be full aboard for the Switch 2, this generation could be very similar to the SNES one in terms of 3rd party support for a Nintendo gaming system

This is the healthiest financially and most momentum and hype Nintendo has ever had going into a transition to new hardware... even more so than DS to 3DS... I feel first-party output within the first 6-8 months for Switch 2 won't be as heavy as Switch 1 (BOTW, MK8: Deluxe, Fire Emblem Warriors, Xenoblade 2, Splatoon 2, Snipperclips, 1-2 Switch, Super Mario Odyssey...) as Mariokart 9 and say... Metroid Prime 4: Beyond cross-gen, maybe a new IP to show off the new joycons, and even BOTW 4K would be more than enough... giving third-party games their time to shine and sell this time around as the launch window I expect to be flooded w/ third-party releases... and that will also give Nintendo more time to polish their first-party slate for 2026 and truly capitalize...

@ Yea I agree. I don’t think Nintendo will be very dependent on 3rd parties but at the same time I don’t think they’ll be dependent on their 1st party titles. Nintendo will probably release their AA titles as time fillers and will release their big guns when the time is right (and yes like you said make sure their games are not in a broken state) but I do expect for Mario Kart 9 to be a launch title because of how evergreen the franchise is

If they want to make a profit porting to the Switch 2 would be a wise choice, I mean they are also porting to Xbox and let's be honest Switch 2 will sell WAY more copies than Xbox ever could, so I don't see a reason why not to port to Switch 2 unless the game can't run on the system but considering that the Switch 2 should be at least around PS4 maybe even PS4 PRO and Series S performance in docked mode, I see no reason why not to port there.

There's already talks going around that all the JP devs are planning some Switch 2 exclusive games for the first year of the Switch2's life cycle. Off the top of my head, I already heard that Capcom is promising whatever remake they have on the pipeline to be on switch2, and Konami is promising a spin off of their cult hit BomberGirls series. Sega, Bamco and SNK are gearing up to support the platform with Switch2 inclusive releases. Not exclusive but they'll make an effort to port their new releases there. Japan is readying to support the crap out of the Switch2. They ain't missing the gravy train again.

hopefully the switch 2 lives up to the hype. the reveal of it looks good and the known specs give a lot of hope its not gonna have to much performance issues. but theres a few things that will turn me off it from a day 1 buy. 1. the durability of the way the controllers attach is a major concern gonna wait and see what the overall reception is on that. 2. the analog sticks are they good this time. stick drift and overall the controllers felt extremely cheap for the original switch I bought 3rd party ergonomic feeling joy cons with good well made analog sticks. I doubt they will be available at launch. 3. is the machine comfortable to use. kind of ties into the above issue for me the switch with the default joy cons felt very awkward to hold and use.

It’s gonna be a great system all the way around man. The performance of the NS2 is gonna be off the chain my man. It appears much better quality, much more durable and not nearly as cheap looking as the NS1. I believe they fixed the joy-con drift as well (saw something about a new patent for the NS2 joy-cons awhile back addressing the drift issues) and the NS2 is quite a bit larger than the NS1 models so the joy-cons should fit much better and be more comfortable for your hands. As far as how the joy-cons attach and detach? I’ll just say have you ever tried to force open a magnetically locked door? Next to impossible to do.

As far as analog sticks and comfort goes we shall see the shape of the controllers look exactly the same other then the size increase which for me the default joy cons gave a lot of uncomfortable after short uses do to the way you have to position the hands being awkward

I feel like most of those ports are mostly for the Japanese market, anyway, since Nintendo is leaps and bounds ahead of anything/anyone else, except for mobile gaming; not so much the West where PC gaming/home consoles are going strong (and PC/mobiile gaming in China). I think GTA 6 is a marketing strategy. When they were asked if they would be on the switch 2 they swiftly said no to try to make it seem as if the graphics are just that good. I think it's a marketing strategy, and I think they're going to figure out that they'd rather have the sales on switch. So my prediction is that in a year or two they will pretend to have figured it out. So act like geniuses and be like we figure it out how to get it on the Switch anyway. They might have a little bit of room to do it, But I guarantee you all these other third parties won't be able to get away with that. That's my prediction.

EA, unless they decide to bring the Mass Effect Legendary Edition to the Switch 2 both natively and physically. Major seller there! Ubisoft, unless they have anything to do with Rayman or a Definitive Edition of Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. Activision, who cares about CoD! Let's see something new and original from Activision or a new Crash Bandicoot game. And as an honorable mention, Rockstar Games. Software sells the hardware, and a steady release of quality games almost every month will sell the Switch 2. Who knows, the first year of the Switch 2 with its lineup of high quality games could surpass 2017's first year.

I would also like Capcom to redeem themselves release the Resident E remakes on carts. Monster Hunter Rise physical had me happy but after seeing how it compares with MH4U with less stuff in it. I knew that MHR physical was release as a based game with cut content. The game was shipped half on the cart & they got us to download the rest. So it's a download required game for full experience. Because past MH games we had more than 1 lobby to advance in & DLC was much different. Rise they cut the advanced lobby & put it up as DLC which should have been included. So if MHWilds comes out for Sw2 I won't be getting it day 1 because of the bs stunt CC did with Rise. For me I would like to have MH4U HD remaster more over wilds.

I always think all this while Nintendo purposely made their console weak so 3rd party devs will skip them and only port the games on their next gen console. The benefit of this is that by dat time, the game would have been polished, fixed and full DLC. Indeed they need Sw2 but if they are just going to treat it as a system that is getting us to download required games then they will sadly be shrugged off. I'm going into Sw2 with physical games only & some good digital indie games. If they want physical fans full support then they are going to need to put everything in the cartridges because there is no excuse to not having $ to do so when they are over there blowing up AAA budget games that cross over 500 /700 million. Yes, you are correct. The market game market is craving a new second console that can drive new customers to third party games. It will be interesting to see how many of the current generation game Switch 2 ports sell. @@stephkm3655 simply put the initial download size on PS5 was like 145.7 GB. And even if compressed, there would still be no way they could fit it on a Cartridge
