Iraqveteran8888, I used to be a FUD about 4 years ago pre-Covid bullshit. I would have considered myself pro2A but I did not understand the firearms dilemma very much at all. I actually started through watching years of your videos way back to the beginning videos of this channel or at least what was available and have kept watching your videos since that time. I have since become actually pro2A and come to aquire a pretty decent selection of firearms in the last 4 years. I just kind of recently came to the realization that I don’t really own a defense shotgun. I owned only a single 28” semi shotgun for hunting. After much consideration, I bought a beretta 1301 yesterday (day before this video). It’s the most I’ve ever spent on a gun so I felt a bit guilty but I had just came to the realization of how effective shotguns are in relation to how little love they seem to get. They obviously have a few limitations but the range of capabilities with a shotgun is still far beyond my actual knowledge. It sucks when you start out as a FUD or anti-gunner at 30 years old but I’m trying to catch up with training and as you said at least owning the tool is a start. It’s nice to see you put out a video like this a day after I bought the most expensive gun I’ve purchased but the other great thing about shotguns is that other than ammo, they are not very restrictive for anyone to own. I chose to start with a much pricier option but I could just as easily have gone with a mossberg 590 or something even more affordable. There are lots of very reliable options for any consumer which is really nice.

The only rifle caliber that can do that is 338 lapua magnum or 300 RUM or up. I’ve even seen some level 4 armor stop m995/m993 yet the shotgun can still do real damage and likely stop an attacker wearing level 4.

One of the common misconceptions about shotguns is their effect on armored targets. The weakest body armor can stop a 12ga slug so people write it off as useless against armor. In reality even with rifle plates backed by soft panels taking a slug to the chest can potentially be lethal if not incapacitate the wearer. Even though the slug won’t penetrate the armor it is dumping a lot of kinetic energy into the wearer and will easily brake ribs and/or rupture organs.

You can pick up a Mossberg Maverick 88 Security Model with the 7+1 magazine tube for around $250-$300 Brand new. I have started making my own slugs from birdshot loads and found that I can fit 10 in the magazine and they're super low recoil but still blow a hole through a 2x4. They also sell shorty shells and there's a video of a guy using the OpSol attachment and he fits 11+1 and it cycles 100% reliable. Shotguns are cheap, reliable, fun, and POWERFUL!

I agree with a lot of your arguments but where we differ is slugs in a house? Why? At in house distances dbl ott is essentially a deer slug with slightly more spread.
@bluestatepaine9 ай бұрын
It’s not just about aiming characteristics, it’s about effect on target. Buckshot applies almost the full force of the shell to the first thing it hits. A slug will almost certainly pass through with a ton of force still left to damage whatever is behind.

2:07 Based on your videos I'll be purchasing on Mossberg: 590S and a Mossberg 940. I've already got two Maverick 88s with Opsol adapters . Maverick 88s are excellent choices if on a budget. They both can hold 10+ mini slugs of buckshot 00 buck or #4 and slugs. Awesome weapons that get the attention of every one at the range.

When I was young. Every kid who went to hunters safety would soon have a 22lr and a shotgun. I also got a deer rifle on my sixteenth birthday. For me growing up this was normal. With my shotgun I've put a lot of meals on the table. If a twelve year old can handle a shotgun, so can you.

Great video Eric. I have a stainless 38 special 3" for home and carry and a 44 special for some accurate stopping power if I feel I need it, but living in a residential neighborhood I rely on my Mossberg 20 Gauge with #4 shot for home defense! 100+ 1/8 inch lead balls will do some awful damage at 20 to 30 feet, but not penetrate into my neighbor's house. I've always kind of favored shotguns for hunting or sport shooting since I was a boy, and your point is something I have always agreed with. One round should do the trick! Most people, with any brains, will run like hell from a shotgun blast!

a mossberg 500 with a 18'' ported door breaching barrel is a pleasure to shoot compered to any longer barreled remington 870 0r 1100. on the mossberg 500 flex you can put on a ar15 style adjustable stock so it is a nice compact home and or truck gun. its only draw back is capacity (5+1) You can change barrels easily for turkey, birds, and rabbit. For longer ranges on deer you can get a rifled barrel and put a scope on it. its a very versatile tool to have in your collection

When you live in a state that maxes out magazine capacity to 10 and 15 rounds, it’s kind of a no brainer.
@IvIidnight9 ай бұрын
Mossberg 590s Tactical. Takes the stubby shells which I feel has a place in home defense. Though if you live with someone else, have slugs in case you need to be precise. Less kick, higher capacity, and still plenty powerful enough for one round to be a lifetime supply.

Kel-Tec KSG 3-in loaded with mini shells will put you at 23 rounds with one in the pipe, that makes capacity a non-issue. Being a Bullpup makes it smaller package and more maneuverable in the house. And as you said with custom rounds you can go for the lower recoil loads. But with the KSG you have two different feed tubes for two different flavors of Chaos.
@kurtwise73569 ай бұрын
Speaking of payload you forgot the fact that 12 GA 00 buck is 9 pellets of damn near 9mm! So do the math! A standard Remington 870 express holds 5! That's 45 9mm projectiles in that gun!!!!

World War 1 was clear in proving the effects of the shotgun in combat. The 1897 Trench broom was great in clearing out enemy trenches. The dense bush in Rhodesia the shotgun was employed to clear out brush with the Rhodesian Jungle round. Farmers have used shotgun for the protection of livestock. I could go on and on. Typically you hear people that hasn't had a locked door to need to blow through the lock. How about the hefty payload ? no.. simply want a rifle or an LMG with lots of firepower. Shotguns will forever be relevant in combat situations, dont let shmucks tell you this crap.
