In 1976, Tanzania asked for help to build a railway to zambia so that it can export its produce. America and Europe refused to finance or build it. Guess who came to help with both finance and manpower? Yes it was China. Even when it was struggling with extreme poverty itself. Many chinese workers died in building that railway. They are buried in Tanzania with a memorial dedicated to them. It must break the hearts of their families not to have them return home to be buried but lay in rest in a foreign country. I hope this memory will forge stronger ties between Africa and China.
@kasikwagoma67408 ай бұрын
@daniellee8720, you got it the wrong way around. The original idea was to help Zambia my country which is landlocked yo export it's copper to the world, it wasn't because Tanzania wanted to export it's produce because it is not landlocked and has access to the sea.... At that time rhodesia and South Africa were ruled by the racist white invaders and made it hard for Zambia to export their copper through those countries, so Zambia turned to Tanzania as it was a fellow black African brother. Julius nyerere was very good friends with Kenneth kaunda and he agreed. Many of those Chinese who died are buried in Lusaka, we even went on a school trip when I was little, our teachers told us, the men who helped Zambia to build the tazara railway are buried here. That is how it came about. China was the only country that stood by Zambia, eversince that I am fanatically pro China and hostile to the west for very obvious reasons.... History means I can never ever trust them.

The West HOPES that everybody who has suffered under their hand will have very short memories even as many in the West have conveniently "forgotten" the evils they, themselves have done to others - so that there need be no reparations, no confessions of guilt, no repentance needed. The West wants to wipe the slate clean but only as though history did not exist and to make Africans and others believe that all their sufferings were all in their own imagination - that's what the West likes. and yet, lingering in the back of their little minds is their frightening thought that one day, karma may call knocking and vengeance will be standing beside it.

Good Explanation. As Africa knows very well that Colonialism starts with Business and Trade, slowly enters into internal conflicts and then supportive politics to politics. In the meantime there will be huge loss and gain on some aspects. At the end of the day it is upto Africa to take decision without affecting their Independence. Maybe with west or New China.

Dude you know nothing about western colonialism. As in Asia as well as in Africa, colonialism did not started with economic, it start outright with claiming your country as theirs. then they directly killed your local leader or replaced it with one of their chosen as puppet or directly replaced it with a white man from their country. they then brought in their settlers people to settle your lands and kicked you out of your ancestral land. they enslaved you for working the land(your land) and change all laws, regulations, trades, and taxes that your are now a foreigners on your own country. if you so much as open your mouth, you're either incarcerated or killed without trial and branded as a rebel. It's evidents you have never being colonized by the west or understood the colonization process and just blowing air from both ends. those arses that's talking about China or Russia's economic relations and trades with Africas as a form of new colonialism known bs about colonialism, they need to shut their trap.

The exploitation of the West has long been resented by the African nations, but, because of the economic and military might of the West, Africa could not do much about it. Finally, in a combination of New China and New Russia, there is a friendly force which can and is willing to help Africa break away from the hegemony of the West. Now, will the whole of Africa capitalize on the opportunity.

Africa has become the focus of intense competition for influence in the past few years. With so many infrastructure projects going on in Africa in the past few decades, the West suddenly realized they are at the losing end as the continent becomes richer and richer and can now afford an increasingly modest lifestyle never before thought possible. The sudden embrace of Africa by the West brought about indignation from many African states when they recognize the intention of yet another wave of Western colonization -- this time on economic matters. This is especially true when just 4 years ago Donald Trump called Africa "the sh*thole of the world" -- in sharp contrast to the never before splendid welcome ceremony Joe Biden laid out to the Kenyan president's state visit to Washington DC a few days ago.

Africa has about 1.3 billion people, so only 0.1 billion less than China or India. But the land mass is equal to India, China, the USA, and more than half of Europe combined. Granted a big portion of that land is the Sahara desert. But a huge part of the land is still waiting to be developed. The continent has amazing potential, but it needs to do the hard and dirty work of investment, especially into its human capital (i.e. proper education, especially if the STEM variety, and good infrastructure to improve human connectivity), to unlock this potential and it needs long-term socio-political stability for the investments to be able to pay off.

Africa china relationship together with Russia go back during Africa's independence struggle. We do have challenges but can relate in trade because china doesn't impose it's beliefs and ideology on other countries. I don't think this Chinese engagement is Africa's answer to development , but I believe it's a way through which our continent can learn to grow our economies ourselves. China is not in Africa to help Africans but itself. It is therefore important to remember never to close any doors of corporation knowing fully well that neither china, Europe or USA will develop Africa but ourselves.

Africa is, unfortunately, NOT one country, not one nation but a continent of many different tribes, different villages, different ethnic groups, different religious enclaves, different countries divided. It makes it easy for all the little countries in Africa to be taken advantage of and exploited by the West. For Africa to stand up, it must do so as a WHOLE and not in small bits and pieces that can be knocked down one by one (eg Libya) - just as a baby stands up not on its toes one at a time but all at once with every part in its legs from the feet to the ankles to the shins to the knees to thighs to the hips - working together in unison. The African Union is a start but it is not fully united as one voice. Maybe the day will come when it will be a true United Federation of Africa or perhaps, the United States of Africa (a different USA) where mutual cooperation united in just one common cause will see Africa truly stand up for itself - and like China, will allow for no one outside to interfere in its affairs.
