We can't say for sure if porus's infantry numbered around the exact size given by arrian or not. It could be possible that ancient sources might have exggagerated the size a bit but that's up for debate. However we can't be sure if porus's infantry was significantly less than the initially recorded size because of the fact that Alexander with half his army was able to fully encircle porus since Alex used more of a combined arm tactics and use of more superior technology and enjoyed the advantage of having more battle hardened veterans by his side and let's not forget elephants who trampled porus's own men. Furthermore the reason why Alexander was quickly able to encircle porus was because of his cavalry contingent being divided into many squadrons.

Jay, you are doing a great job and a heartily thanks for the informative and simple presentation. Though, for this particular video I would have appreciated if you had included the dialogue between Porus and Alexander, if any, which would have further shed some light on the heroic and impressionable demeanor of Porus.

As for Alexander's Phalanxes Army, they were very well trained and experienced since the reign of his dad Philip II, the man who made Macedonia into a powerful kingdom, he made the groundwork of the Macedonian Army

This was amazing I always admire how you use sources to prove and for credibility as well. I have a question - surely this invasion of Alexander of Macedonia must have been alarming and important in those times so why we don't see any texts mentioning it or why there was no United resistance against him even in Greek resources, surely he was a huge threat and not a mere skirmish on northwest border.

Thank you! Glad you liked the video. About your question, I don't have any concrete answer to this. But I would say that the sources that we presently have about what has happening in the subcontinent during the 4th century BC are all centred around the middle Gangetic Valley. So this focus of the sources, may have to do with the lack of information about the Macedonian invasion. This is just a speculation on my part.

Just a request, can you please make some videos on Aryan invasion/migration theory and is it right or wrong and a broad discussion on this topic. I dont know if it is your topic of intrest or not but wanted to hear your opinion on this because generally we hear very extreme opinions on these theories.

Is there any possibility that King Parvataka in Mudrarakshasa refer to Porus? I know it was written more than 500 years after the events, but I wanted to know your opinion. I feel it might be different, since Porus would have been already been killed by Eudamus, before Chandragupta Maurya even establishes his empire
