Goon on ya mate from down under, love watching your adventures. I got my first ADV bike (R1250GS) at 50 after 20yr break riding road bikes. I thought how hard can it be, took it offroad, crashed and broke some bones which resulted in another 8mths off the bike. Thought maybe I am too old to ride such a big bike but took some training which made me more comfortable. Your videos do provide great motivation and serve as a reminder that maybe I'm not too old (55 now) and should just keep going. Thank you for sharing.

Much appreciated - I have had some folks over the last three years tell me to give up etc....and I forge ahead - I think the reason I do it on the big bike is to prove them wrong...no matter how hurt i get...ha!!!....glad you are staying with it...its so fun to show up at rides and be on the big bike - Training is key - keep doing it and you'll master that bike....thanks again!!!!

I think your stuff is great, and I have enjoyed this video. I was wondering about your story. I started riding agin at 59, just retired at 65 and shut down my businesses. Now, a year later and 66, I can't wait to keep riding and learning ( I have a GS 1250 and Suzuki DR 650). Agree 100% that you can always, always, always learn something. I met you in Texas earlier this year, I have seen you ride, and YES, you know some stuff! I can't keep up with you. Hope to meet you out there agin some day. Keep it coming.

Thank you for the kind words...I think if you can ride - ride and ride what you like and how you like....its all subjective anyway - hope we meet again - the good thing...we are riding and doing what we love to do...enjoy!!! - thanks again!!!

Great perspective. I’m 58 and I am blessed to be able to get out and enjoy the ADV sport. I’m not out there trying to impress anyone, I’m just enjoying being with my son and making memories. We have been talking about posting some trips.

Matt, just stumbled across your channel. Good stuff. Thanks for sharing your adventures, thoughts, and conversations with others. I also am a bit of an ADV noob. I started riding at 47, five years ago and I appreciate you bringing the common rider perspective. We all have to live and ride within our means financial, physically, and with the available time we have. Let's face it sometime a new furnace takes precedence over a bike upgrade and a graduation has to come before an ADV weekend. Look forward to seeing you out there. I think you are also Southwest Ohio based, so we may cross paths in the riding seasons to come. Cheers

Took up ADV riding at 49 after years of sport touring and Harleys. Don’t understand all the friction between the “Big Bike” and the Duel Sport crowds. I have a Tiger 1200 and a Husky 701 and have listened to the “Gatekeepers” on both sides. I just go ride and do my thing. I’m fortunate to live in the great state of Georgia where we’ve got great access to just about any type of riding you could want. Love your channel. It has made me get out there and push the limits on the Tiger which has then really made me do stupid things with the 701!Keep it up brother!

I know I poked fun of you some time back about your Rider Academy video and the bridge crossing, but really do love your channel. You make it real for us old guys. (58 here) Plus, if you look at all your comments so far.. you've replied to each one.. alot of the others don't do that. You've even answered some of my questions in the past. So keep doing what you are doing, alot will keep watching. Hell.. I'm thinking of doing some of the same as you. Hope to one day meet you at an event.

I do a lot of dualsport rides and found you pretty much need a real enduro bike which I have and I also have a pan America which I would never think of riding that on some of these dualsports . That being said I give the guys on the bmw’s a lot of credit but from what I’ve seen you will get one maybe two guys blaze by on a beemer but in most cases there’s guys that have no business being on those trails with those bikes . I’ve been riding for 52 years road raced for a few years ,a NYPD Mcy cop / instructor for 20 years and tons of dirtbike experience and like I said I wouldn’t think of taking my PA on some trails . Don’t get me wrong I love the GS I just think some guys bite off more than they can chew. I been watching your videos for some time now and I have to say for the amount of time you have riding you ride well . 👍🏻
