I love Syria. I don't know why. I have no connection to Syria whatsoever. I have loved this country for a long time - from before it got hit with CIA jihadi head-choppers. I saw some travel documentaries. That's it. It seemed so peaceful and old-fashioned compared to the turmoil in the rest of West Asia. I prayed that it would stay that way. I learned about the close, peaceful, neighborly relations of various religious groups in Syria and that Syria has a tradition of secular government and tolerance. Then I began following Assad's career and saw some interviews on line of people who approve of Assad (for instance, a lovely old Irish nun who runs a school in Damascus). I watched some interviews of Assad himself and was very impressed with his clarity and calmness in the midst of the terrible CIA assault on his country. Finally, I discovered Kevork Almassian and have gained so much understanding of Syria from him! I share your love of your country, Kevork! I love my country as well (USA) but with an immense sadness as to what it has become. I sense that Syria has a great future - likely as a prosperous node on the new Silk Road, as before - but I'm afraid, as to my country, that all the ideals of my youth, which I would say are summed up in JFK's brilliant world peace speech at American University in 1963 and Martin Luther King's anti-Vietnam war speech at Riverside Church in 1967 - have been so utterly smashed by our war profiteer overlords that the USA will never recover.

The most likely answer to that question is that any intentions behind such move against Assad did not take into consideration the fact that the entire Region would be continuously trained to fight wars, and the experience gained by this Desert Warriors would actually be turned against Israel, and US Interests in the Region...Which only favor Russia...and China. The war in Lebanon will likely be joined by some of those fighters from Syria, which will result in a more homogeneous population of Arabs and Muslims, more children, more families ...and everyone more determined to fight Israel, with new tactics...new weapons, better equipment, and not on the Israeli time frame... So, killing foreign leaders as always, removes a Kaiser for a Hitler, a Tsar for a Lenin and a Lenin for a Stalin...figuratively speaking, but the idea is conceptually the same. One thing that also should be noted is that despite Theocracies being often a major limitation to progress, scientific advances, as well as civic liberties limited by the type of Theocracy in place, most do not condone the practice of experimental "sciences" which alter or desecrate Human Nature, or the Human Body, such as the harvesting of Organs, and the Commerce of the same, which is one of the main reasons Muslim Populations will continuously Grow, and be more resistant to any changes of such practices, that is...will not be in favor of any Bioengineering or any Alteration of the Human Body beyond more "Natural" methods. So Muslims will not have the Dr Mangela types under their watch, which could actually help increase the "conversion" to Islam among Occidental Populations...Or more conservative Traditional Christian Institutions, such as the Catholic Church and the ones derived from the same...
