The roads in America are so big. That's like motorway standards for the UK. I'm from the UK and our roads are like 4x smaller!
@astrofan87755 жыл бұрын
Tbh you have some of the smallest roads in all of europe, most of your backroads aren't much wider than our one-way alleys in old towns (living in germany), so most people have more space on the road than you. Not to mention that a good part of the motorways seems to be built in the 70's without any space for future changes/improvements, like there was the attitude "Why would it change, it works now" at work in ~80% of the country. So apart from most newer parts of the motorways most british roads ar small compared to ours, and our roads are not big either, i'd say in the international average we'd be near the middle, maybe slightly above, but not much.

@@RatelHBadger That is exactly like most northern parts of england and the a big part of scotland. Probably not too much younger, probably planned for similiar traffic-loads (considering that apart from a few centres NZ isn't really that densely populated, which against makes it similiar to scotland), and as a result working untill there's a problem, then it's a bit dodgy. Although tbh we do also have quite a few roads like that, it's just that due to the fact that they lack the partition and 2nd permanent lane they are not allowed to be classified as highways, even though they have similiar speed-limits. Basicall as all roads they are simply planned for the max. load of the time with no consideration for either future safety or increase in traffic. Cars are one of few reasons, why i would want to live in US (there are also many reasons why i'm happy i'm not living there). Here in Poland cars, gas and insurance are stupid expensive. Especially when you are teenager or young adult. I'm 20 and work as IT guy and probably earn less than wallmart cashier in US. My current (first) car is 97 Eclipse GS and it burns my wallet. To the point where i think of selling it and buying Civic or Colt because of smaller engine.

In mexico the age to drive is 16 with a permission of your state (which may have some restrictions depending the state) 18 with a full license, gas is a a bit more expensive but still cheaper than in europe, you still get to see v8 cars very often. Insurance can be expensive, the cheapest is around 1500 dollars and the highest i found costs 3k (both for the 6.2 camaro) and the average is 2300 dollars also take note that by law some states require you to have an insurance. And finally taxing some states have a tax for owning a car but you can evade that tax legally and easily by just registering your car in a state that dont has it and also there are luxury car taxes that apply to luxury imported cars, the price of a brand new car can sometimes be cheap because most of the cars that circulate in mexico are manufactured in mexico and also used cars can be cheap sometimes. we don't have it as easy as in the us but we still have it easier than most of the countries

Another big topic I can think of is modding your car, US vs Germany. From my perspective, in the US you can basically throw any kind of parts into your car and legally operate it. I am well aware of exceptions like window tints and exhausts in I think it was California that updated their laws. But still, here in Germany, when say installing a turbocharger (or even a minor thing like new wheels), the part needs to have an operating license, meaning that it was checked and proven to be safe to use. Then, after installing it, you have to bring your whole car to the same agency so they can check if the part was installed properly. If this is true, then they will note every modification in your car´s papers and only then you are allowed to drive on the road with your new mods. ...but even if everything´s checked and noted, in some cities the cops will still impound your car for "illegal modifications". I´ve heard a story about a guy who purchased a brand new BMW M4, drove 800m down the road and then got his car impounded for no reason whatsoever. So that´s why I think, from a German car guy´s perspective, the US is modding paradise. Greetings :D

@melv1n_official4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's true. But we should also consider that there's also a considerable increase in price due to excise tax. The 10th-gen Honda Accord Touring with a 2-liter turbocharged engine with all the bells and whistles is priced around US$36K. The Philippine-spec 10th-gen Accord (only with a base 1.5-liter engine) is priced at Php2.2M (around US$44K). More points to consider include workers' salary and the group/type of people purchasing what type of car. My aunt who's working as a nurse in the US have a Mercedes Benz E350 and BMW 535i bought brand-new in 2011 and 1985 respectively, while many nurses in the Philippines could barely afford a new city car like a Chevy Spark or Ford EcoSport. Then consider once again the Honda Accord. People in the US would perceive this car as a normal, boring appliance-on-wheels for normal, boring middle-class person with kids. In the Philippines, this car is typically owned by high-ranking executives (and sometimes driven by their chauffeur).

The only thing we're missing to be the absolute best is the removal of the 25 year law. I’ve always been a car guy before I could walk, I’m in the UK... learned to drive early teens, on the roads at 15 (illegally but whatever, I was stupid) became a fully qualified mechanic late teens and even did vehicle maintenance training during high school ... insurance prices were so disgusting getting nothing but multiple thousand pound quotes until I was 20+ that it put me off getting my license for too long, took the fire out of my heart for a good while knowing that I wouldn’t be able to get a car for a long time.. because I just refused to pay more than £3-5k a year to own a car that I’ll probably pay 1000 for... yadda yadda so I’ve been driving my families cars legally until I was able to get insured for under £2000 on the majority of mid powered non performance hatch backs... I was a stubborn bastard, but I finally got insured on an mkII Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec at 24 for £1200, now I’m relatively happy lol, good insurers too! But seriously... there should be at least some form of insurance cap for young drivers because some of the quotes are puke worthy and it’s horrible that some people need to pay it in desperate situations, I was lucky.. Here in Germany they started banning cars from entering VERY large portions of many cities. Mostly diesel engine cars, even though they aren't even 5 years old and some even older gasoline cars. And the reason? Just a tad bit too much NOx in the air... We have a "rule of thumb" 40 microgram limit which is exceeded by about 6 micrograms on average... the best part? The 40 microgram limit is completely made up! We don't even know how much NOx is really dangerous; at work places we allow up to 950 micrograms without any ill effects! Even the guys who made up the 40 limit say that values up to 150 have no effect on humans! Do people even know what our father and grand fathers had to endure during the 70s-80s in Germany? Our sky was LITERALLY black in some places!!! We had 10-100x more toxins in the air then now and NOW people are upset by a made up limit being exceeded by 10-20%?!?

Let’s just say that insurance in Canada is great too. If you tried to insure a 6 litre camaro in the uk at 17, you’ll be paying 10 grand plus. In the uk, a 1 litre corsa insurance could cost over 2000£

Luxury and exotic cars basically cost twice as much in Australia then US. This includes currency conversion, luxury car tax, registration tax called stamp duty (now 9% in places) plus other costs. That all adds up to double what Americans pay. Now yes Aussies get paid a bit more for the same job in Australia but it’s nowhere near double.

In the UK cars are split into different insurance groups, and you won't get insurance for some cars depending on the insurance company, if your under a certain age. For a 1.8 TDCi Ford C-Max I had to be 23 or older to be insured

The CC thing is very true lol, I have a friend in Greece where cars used to be taxed based on displacement (still do for cars older than 2010) so as a result his 1.8L Miata is considered a rather large engine over there (anything over a 2.0L the tax gets unaffordable for the average person). Then here in the U.S. I have a 2.2L and when I talk with Americans about it, "that's pretty small!"

$5 gas in Comifornia is true, the reason it happened is because a large refinery caught fire and went out of service in the middle of the 2005-2008 oil crisis. But then you ask "Why can't they use gasoline from other states?" GOOD QUESTION! The reason is because Comifornia law requires a special blend of gasoline to reduce pollution that only Comifornian refiners can make. Lower supply and high demand = high price
@A_Degenerate_with_Glasses6 жыл бұрын
Then that forest fire occured and now ALL that effort is wasted because the Bay Area went from one of the greenest to the most polluted places to live.
@AdamSmith-gs2dv6 жыл бұрын

you could just not get insurance or is it mandatory to have insurance there.
@__-fm5qv5 жыл бұрын
@@phalanx3803 Insurance is mandatory in pretty much every European country. For example, in the UK if you're caught driving without insurance it's a £300 fine and 6 points on your license (if you get up to 12 you can lose your license) with the potential to be suspended from driving for 6 months, and the offense will likely go on your criminal record. On top of that the police, if they deem it necessary, have the power to seize and destroy your vehicle. So yeah its a really serious issue driving without insurance.

@@__-fm5qv i don't get why its mandatory are they that desperate for money? because that's all i see is a shameless money grab
@__-fm5qv5 жыл бұрын
@@phalanx3803 I believe to make sure its possible everyone can afford to pay property damages and stuff in the case of an accident. So I guess its about making it fairer? But yeah its also a massive money grab, but 3rd party insurance has been the "legal minimum" since 1930 I believe (with the exact current law existing since 1988), so everyone is used to it by now. Car insurance also varys a lot in price depending on age (young and very old is more expensive), gender (women get it slightly cheaper), area you live in, where you commonly park your car, miles done per year, occupation and of course size/power of your engine.
