Your video comes at just the same time that I am finishing a giant purge of my closets and dresser drawers of fast fashion and clothes I haven't worn in years, and transition to sustainable, slow fashion items, specifically merino wool, washable silk and other natural fibers. In my particular situation, I had the perfect storm of losing a lot of weight, but the "skinny clothes" I had kept all these years no longer looked good on me because they were purchased long before I quit dyeing my hair and went silver, and even though I could fit in a lot of these clothes again, they were colors that no longer looked good on me. I discovered merino wool after having surgery and needing clothes that did not irritate the surgical incisions on my abdomen. I also turned to merino because I found after losing a lot of weight I was more sensitive to cold, and merino has temperature regulating properties. Once I started wearing merino clothing, I couldn't bring myself to put on the synthetic fast fashion clothing anymore. I literally purged almost everything, most of which I had not worn in years. I donated probably 30 kitchen size 13 gallon trash bags of clothes to a local clothes closet for the needy. I also donated shoes, and cleaned out my kitchen of pots, pans, utensils and gadgets that I never used. I'm continuing to declutter and either throw away or donate items I don't use, and embrace a more minimalist lifestyle. Thanks for the helpful tips, an ebook would be interesting.

Wow…you sound like me. The more surgical procedures and allergies I experienced the easier this process of ditching not only synthetic hair color but synthetic fabrics became. I’m glad you are here and thank you so much for watching today. I am putting the ebook together along with more videos. Be well and 🌟💎 Shine On! 💎🌟.

@@QuickSilverHair Thanks Joli. Yes, I ditched the hair dye many years ago now. I have followed your silver hair tips and use the Quicksilver clay on my silvers too. I dropped the weight to get my A1C and blood sugar levels under control and completely revamped my diet. It's amazing how all these life experiences lead to these changes. I also got a lot of practice with culling clutter after my mom passed a couple of years ago. My brother and I still have stuff to go through in our parents' house but the sheer volume of clutter we have already gotten rid of is insane. The combination of all these things, and most recently the weight loss, have had me on a focused mission to get rid of excess clutter lately. I feel like getting started clearing the clutter is the hardest part. In part because it's overwhelming with the volume, and in part because of emotional attachment to things, like those skinny clothes, which now that they fit again, I discovered I still don't want to wear them. Thanks for the tip about Thread Up. Many clothes that I already donated could have been sent to Thread Up if I had know about it. I set aside some of the nicer/better brand clothing to try selling on Postmark, but I might just look into Thread Up instead.

@@lschwamk sounds like there is a lot to unload, offload, and release. I wish you the very best with it because it is a muscle you have to build. Letting go gets easier with time and even then something’s just hang on for a long while. I’m super proud of you for getting your A1C in check and taking steps to better your health. ❤️❤️ ThredUp doesn’t have much of a profit margin but is easier than Poshmark, Poshmark was just harder for me to deal with because of the time it takes. You might send a small amount to ThredUp and see how it goes before going all in.

I had this light bulb when I started sewing a few years ago. Making my own clothes meant they actually fit me, fit my aesthetic, and were one of a kind. Then I discovered upcycling. I still make things from scratch but I find refashioning my existing closet, my husband’s closet, or the thrift store a particularly fun, creative endeavor. Thrift stores, or sites like Thred Up, can be a cost-effective way to find higher quality garments than can be altered to fit or completely refashioned into something entirely different.

That’s awesome. I’m not much of a seamstress so basic repairs and that is about all I can do. But now I am even thinking that when I can knit again I will focus on more functional pieces. Thanks for watching. 🌟💎 Shine On! 💎🌟

I agree that Covid & Lockdown changed people's purchasing habits. I also stopped buying fast fashion and started to research more ethical & sustainable brands ❤

The tip about organizing clothes by type, sleeve length, color was the best thing I ever did. It makes matching outfits so much easier and I never “forget” about a piece that used to be hiding amongst other clothes. Helpful tips as always! I look forward to trying some of them. Your approach seems sustainable and not overwhelming.

I had the same epiphany about the 10$ tshirt. Now I make my own clothes out of thrifted fabric and yarn. Yes , I donated when I purged my closet. 😊

That’s awesome. If I could sew I would. I can do a basic repair but sewing a full garment is not in my wheelhouse. I do knit though, and I now want to think about knitting more functional pieces. Thanks for watching. 🌟💎 Shine On! 💎🌟

Interesting! I am still struggling to find my authentic style because of many factors, however, once I stopped dying my hair, I started wearing different colors. The earth tones that were so flattering before made my gray hair and my look so drab. One of the most sustainable options is to continue to wear what's in your closet, rather than running out to replace everything in your closet with sustainable brands.

@@theesilverghost my process was very slow because I never just want to be part of the throw away problem. I still have a few pieces of fast fashion living out their best life with me. Now I have focused on only buying slower pieces.

Great information. Thank you! I would purchase an ebook. I am curious as to where you purchased your red sweater. I would love to buy a few wool sweaters that were sustainably made. I’ve been wearing a grey wool/cotton blend sweater I purchased from Lands End in the 1990’s that was made in Ireland. I wish they still carried that line!

Hi Ruth, I don’t wear wool except in outerwear so this one is cotton. I had to look high and low for the right shade of cool red, but I ended up finding one at Loft (not fast fashion, but not slow either). I had another one picked out from L.L. Bean which is considered a more sustainable brand. Thanks for watching.

I will become all white/grey within a year. I had very dark hair and my clothes reflect that coloring. What colors wear best with a cool complexion and grey hair? I already seem to appear washed out/pale wearing certain colors. Any suggestions appreciated.
@QuickSilverHair
@QuickSilverHair 10 ай бұрын
My first tip, don’t throw out your colors that worked with your dark hair yet, you may find once you are fully transitioned some will still work. I made this mistake and I got rid of clothing that could actually still wear because it would have still looked good with my natural dark hair remaining at the back of my neck. So set those pieces off to the side and evaluate them once you’ve grown your hair out. If you are cool complexion you probably fit more into darker jewel tones, emerald, dark teal, cool dark blues, purple, blue red… Look at your makeup too. It may be time to refresh your pallet a little to complement your silvers coming in. After you are fully grown out you might consider a color analysis. I plane on talking about this in an upcoming video so stay tuned. 🌟💎 Shine On! 💎🌟
