I have so many interpretations on this song and they all fit, on one hand for me it could be like me getting angry or upset at myself and my brain, which is very accurate. Another is trying to forgive someone for something they have done to you but you still love them anyway and don't wanna bring pain on them. Another is just staying quiet after certain events to protect people

the same thing happened to me! my ex was incredibly manipulative and gaslit me and would do things to me that i didn’t want to do. and so over time i fell out of love with him, honestly it never was love. i broke up with him over text, not my finest moment imo, but i thought it was fine. and yet a year later, he still talks crap about me and is waiting for my current boyfriend and i to break up. “no use getting angry at the way that you’re wired” hits pretty hard

If he was manipulative, you didn't owe him a decent in-person breakup, which would have been the right thing to do in a meaningful relationship. And the fact he's still talking shit about you and guilt tripping you is not okay, and it says a lot. It sounds like there are a lot of red flags with this guy. But like I said, you don't owe him anything. I went through something similar with my ex girlfriend. Frankly, I think you need to tell him to stay the fuck away from you, and dont be gentle about it. You shouldn't treat everyone like that, and its understandable if you feel bad about doing that because you're actually a decent person. But you shouldn't take his bullshit another second. You need to make him understand you don't want him bothering you anymore. You deserve better.

@@maggieo1683 thank you so much! i don’t even remember writing this comment but i’m in a much much better place now. a few months ago he mailed me a letter asking for forgiveness and telling me he “wished more than anything that he could give me a hug”. it was really weird but i texted him back and told him there was no way i could forgive him. he used my anxiety against me and ignored me literally the whole time we were together. good news is i don’t have to see him all day and from what I’ve heard he stopped talking about me, which is great

I am not entirely sure if I understand Guiltless, but I relate it to my own experience. My dad often tells at me for my stupid mistakes (I have no common sense) and we're not very close. I feel like he doesn't really know me. Also, he's really inconsiderate and cares only about himself. So I feel like we're strangers and he doesn't realize that our relationship is bad. The classical piece is Bolero, by Ravel, which is actually thematically on point for this song, as it’s the same phrase that repeats over and over throughout the 15-17 minutes of the performance. It doesn’t grow or change, just has a new instrument added each time from an incredibly quiet start to a full orchestra. There’s a great RadioLab episode that talks about Ravel, Bolero, art, mental illness and dementia, for anyone interested.

i like the people going thru and sort of analyzing the lyrics and how they hold value in their life so i think ill do the same- im adopted, just to preface, and my birth mother, from what we know of her, has major depressive disorder and also had worsened post-partum-depression after having me- she ended up keeping me for two and a half years before i was put up for adoption. Its still strange to me how you could do that to your child after raising them. part of what hurts from that is that she now has two kids- anyway this is becoming sidetracked. because of my birth moms mdd, i inherited it from her. so my adoptive mom likes to blame all of whats happening with me purely on genetics (Thus the line im talking about being 'dont say its genetic') rather than the situations she puts me in that stress me or make me feel worse mentally.
