Although this series was posted three years ago, is such a tremendous help. I love it when I find gems like these on YT. The fact the REAPER's plugins do not have any fancy GUI to distract you visually, I find it to be helpful in how it focuses on the mathematical implication to achieve the sound you desire. Rather than see it, you are forced to listen to how each feature of the plugin works.

This is the best explanation of a noise gate and its settings I've seen from everything I've found. Thank you

YES~! ReaGate RAWKS - Discovered it in the past year or two & that's how I use it - Isolating kick & snare in a live drumkit setting. Necessary when you wanna sidechain Kick to Bass. Also good for isolating Vox & getting rid of headphone bleed-through in your mic track. ReaGate also works like a De-Esser, too~! Actually maybe even a little better.

Great depth on this tutorial -- good and valuable information. Please talk to the RMS size setting as well. How and why is it used? Does it help in creating recordings that meet required RMS specifications?

Maybe check out this other video Kenny made: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWLTma2KbNWroc0 It only really works if your background noise is fairly constant, like an electrical hum, but you could see if it works for you?

Hey i am new to music production. My question is that Can noise gating be also used in a studio setup where we donot have proper sound proofing? I know somethings like Izotope rx noise reduction tools for voice and guitar etc. but can this gating plugin be used?

Kenny, why such a long hold/release on the kick? You can clearly hear the other drum hits that happen right after the kick with those settings.
