I love mine. My little female Leeloo is a cuddly sweet little thing and harness training green cheeks by far out of all the birds is easiest in my opinion. They don’t mind the handling as much. They are funny and mischievous and into everything, too smart for their own good but so loving you find it endearing instead of annoying lol.

I think you are correct, I think they don’t mind being handled as much since they are more bond-oriented. I also agree that they are too smart for their own good, but that’s a part of what makes them wonderful. Thanks for posting - and for telling me that your GCC is harness-trained. Which harness do you use?
@jamesgolden46853 жыл бұрын
We have had ours for 5 years and it's been an amazing experience of love and laughter. She is harness trained and comes out with us virtually everywhere that we go. Like most people we have found her nippy but that's just part of their huge personality. I watch your channel each day and really appreciate the effort that you put in to it. I hope that the you tube algorithm comes good and that you get the viewer numbers that you deserve.

They are sweet as heck. A bird that stays still for more than 5 seconds would be a treat! Everyone I know that lives with a GCC says the same thing. That is, once you get past the beaky stage you have a loving companion.

I think all parrots have their pros and reasons they are amazing- I love saying that a species is my favorite because it is true, in their own way. GCC are an amazing companion for the price- they are “cheap” parrots. The nipping is tough but otherwise they are fantastic.

I have 2 and they were both gifted to me, in a time span of 2 years. the owner found them nippy and loud, but like you said after a year they got used to me and now they just want to snuggle. 1 is about 3 years old and the other one is a baby of 4 months. I'm really happy that their owners gave them to me :)

Thanks for this! You’re quickly becoming my favorite source of parrot info on youtube! I appreciate how much experience you have with so many species 😊. It gives me a lot of confidence that you’re not giving biased info out while i search for my next companion parrot!

I don’t like biased info- doesn’t help anyone! And this way I help 🦜 parrots- and people- have a better experience- lol. Seriously though if the world were filled with people who had a blissful bond with their parrot or a pet, it might be a better place…

My 7 month female has been really sweet to me but she’s aggressive to other people. I was thinking of getting another female bird and hopefully they get along. Would you recommend getting the same species or will it be okay if I get another similar sized species like a Nanday Conure?
@ParrotBliss2 жыл бұрын
Either is fine, but your GCC is going to be more open to making friends with another GCC more so (generally speaking) than with another species-

How do they compare to a cockatiel? I've only had experience with budgies and cockatiels. Also how do they interact with budgies? (For example, I was told budgies might bully a cockatiel)
@Ash435093 жыл бұрын
I have both and they’re both amazing birds. Mine get along okay but they’re not friends or anything. My cockatiel can get a little bit testy if they get in his space but they will share food and other things just fine without incident. It’s hard to compare the two because they are both loving birds and you can’t go wrong with either. I would say cockatiels are a little easier because mine doesn’t get into things like my green cheek but my cockatiel also chew more. They both get jealous of my attention and my budgies will usually leave them alone and hang out with each other. Sometimes Bert (budgie) will try to sit next to Kirby (cockatiel) and get chased off and my GCC female will do a Deebo and take certain foods or treats from other birds but I haven’t had any major fights. I think it depends on your birds personality as well because my cockatiel is goofy and gentle but he can also be moody at times and my budgies aren’t as “pesky” as some people describe they are, sometimes Bert can be a little shit and do things to annoy on purpose but it isn’t very often, but I know someone with a Budgie that is very hyper and has a cockatiel that is super flighty so I think it depends on the bird as well.
@paxtonthegreencheekconure69553 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I would say they're about the same size, both loving, and sweet birds. But there are some differences. For one, you know how some cockatiels can collect dust in their feathers and spread it everywhere? kind of like how people get dandruff in their hair? Green cheeks actually don't, which makes them technically hypoallergenic. Conures also tend to have more of a playful personality. But a downside is that they tend to be really nippy, especially as babies. But this can be worked around with positive reinforcement. Green cheek conures are known as one of the quietest conures, but that doesn't mean that they're the quietest parrot. It just means that they're quieter than a sun conure or a jenday conure, or any other conure. They're very noisy, whether it be chattering or screaming. Louder than a cockatiel for certain. Another thing is that they don't really play well with other parrots outside of their species. I mean sure, acknowledging eachothers presence and respecting it is possible, but they probably won't bond. Black Capped Conure and Green Cheek Conure ✅ Crimson Bellied Conure and Green Cheek Conure ✅ Green Cheek Conure and Cockatiel ❌ Green Cheek Conure and Budgie ❌ so yeah.

Do you recommend getting two GCCs at the same time or getting one, then adding the second a few months later? I'm planning on getting two in the future, but just unsure about how exactly to go about it
@stan2ey2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I would recommend getting one earlier and adding another to your flock a couple months after.. Depends on how much time your first GCC takes to bond with you.
